What was your first PSN download?

Star Wars: Battlefront - Elite Squadron (demo) for PSP. Would have been around June 2010.

Whole reason I made a PSN account.

I had my PSP since 2007, and it. kicked. ass. All I had at that point, and indeed until late 2011, was my trusty PS2 and it's portable little brother. I championed the PSP for years, turning many naysayers into... yaysayers, I guess. Anyway, around June of 2010 I had pushed one friend far enough and he went out and got a PSP for himself. At this point in time, I was all up in my PSP, converting movies to work on it and making little thumbnails the thing could read (not that I remember at all how to do it now) and downloading demos from the internet (ily PSPdemocentre.com) and throwing my music on there and just everything. Well, except the obvious two things, actually hooking up to the PSN and then realizing the PSP is super easy to mod and I can play Mega Drive on it. Anyway, so my buddy got his PSP and it was preowned and he had Crash 3 and Cool Boarders 1 on it's memory card (which I'll come back to later) and then he wiped them and made his own PSN account and downloaded the Battlefront demo, among other things, and porn. Porn was the fucking worst on the PSP by the way, but that never stopped us. I'll move on now.

Anyway, so at this point in time I was aware of Renegade Squad and had it on UMD, it was cool I guess but nothing amazing. But I had no idea Elite was a thing. I was all "Wait, that thing on PS2 that I love the living shit out of is on that PSP I love the living shit out of, and I can play some of it for free?!?! Where do I sign up?" and then I signed up. The PSP PSN was amazing to my dumb little self... probably because it took me another year or so until I saw it, since I didn't have wireless internet and was stuck using Media Go on my laptop with it's plug in USB modem thing packed with a whopping SIX WHOLE GIGS OF INTERNET A MONTH (yeah, one at a time ladies) and anyway, basically I didn't have a lot of internet to chew through. So I downloaded Elite's demo, a WipEout demo, a Patapon demo, pretty well every half way decent looking demo on the PSN, as I would later do on my PS3 as well and then end up regretting all the clutter for shit I didn't even play half the time.

And moving on. I think the first thing I purchased was Crash 3. And the reason was that I knew the download size of it from when my buddy had it on his memory card from earlier and I didn't wanna burn through my internet. As I would later find out, the size in the Media Go description was often wrong, and I wasn't down to dump 800 odd meg on Crash 1 even though I'd have (at the time) preferred it on the PSP in case it turned out to be EVEN MORE THAN 800MB (could you imagine?) so yeah. I think Crash was the first thing I *bought* on the PSN. I could be wrong though, Cool Boarders would follow shortly after and I remember buying a bunch of those "Minis" when they would regularly be on sale for two bucks a pop. You have to remember too, that at this point I was 14 and had no money really, so I bought what was cheap and what wouldn't eat my internet, and if I was lucky, they turned out to be not shit.

Christmas that year I put together all the money I had and got a PSP Go. At the time they were kind of tanking so there was a promotion that you'd get 10 free games with it if you bought it around that time. It was then going for 200 bones new, so I got me one of them for Christmas and with it came MotorStorm, FIFA World Cup, Pursuit Force 2, Vice City Stories, Avatar, NFS Shift, Gran fucking Turismo, Assassin's Creed and a couple others I forget.

Basically, my first PSN purchase, and my entire PSN account's cause for existence, is the idea that I could both play a decent Battlefront game on the go, and that I could do it for free. I made the account with a stupid name like stoogebag because it was all I could think of and I never thought I would ever have to actually use the name for anything. Then by the time I got a PS3 there was already too many PSP digital purchases to throw the account in the bin and start a new one. Sad thing is, there's some other tosspot out in the world who uses it on everything (Hi Brian!!) and seems to actually be proud of the name. It's a stupid name and you're stupid for enjoying it, it did make me happy when I found out someone has the name "stoogebagged" on PSN and I'm like, "I know it's you you fucker."

Anyway, bonus points:

First thing I downloaded on PS3 was a bunch of demos, probably Tony Hawk Proving Ground or Duke Nukem very first.

First thing I bought on PS3 was Back to the Future, which would come to Plus like 3 months later and teach me a good lesson, never buy anything because it will come to Plus eventually. Years later they would piss all over Plus and teach me another lesson, Sony are assholes when they get ahead in the console wars and they never learn.

No idea what my first purchase was on Vita. I got it because I had stacked up enough Plus games that it was worth it to have one.

PS4, first thing downloaded was probably Blacklight Retribution.

First thing bought, launch night I got a copy of Knack (fuck yeah, Knack 2 in a month!) and Killzone Shadow Fall. Honestly when I put those 2 in particular next to eachother, I'm less surprised about the Knack sequel.

Also, my first PS2 classic, I think was GTA 3. I know I got it the day it was made available either way.

Tecnically i guess my first download must have been the PS3 system update. But as a digital purchase Rayman 3 HD would be my first (somwhere in 2013). It was my first PS2 game and i used to play through it many times over, but i never completed it properly before that.

If we discount YouTube and a game Demo, my first PSN download was Sonic CD on my PS3 on June 5, 2015, the day after I first got it. The Christian Whitehead version, which this is, is a kind of remake as the original code went missing. He was a fangame maker before being hires by Sega. If only Sonic 1 and 2 could be updated to their CW versions.

Valkyria Chronicles Demo 21-12-2008

It was totally just a random try because I loved how the game looked. I ended up enjoying it a lot and as a weird coincidence I got the game a few days later as a gift while I was visiting my mom for Christmas. I guess she figured from the way the game looked that I would have enjoyed it too xD

28/11/2013 Killzone Mercenary

Bought myself a White Vita but didn't like the Assassin's Creed game that was bundled with it, so, I bought Killzone Mercenary via PSN store and... oh boy, it was a blast.  It's unfortunate that the developer of that game got shut down. :(

My first downloads were probably the demos for Folklore and Nucleus.

First purchase a small lot or two of games I had been interested in as a big XBLA player consisting of Locoroco Cocoreccho, PixelJunk Racers and Monsters, Calling All Cars, Blast Factor, Super Stardust HD, flOw, Lemmings, and Everyday Shooter.

Predating everything might have been Beats on PSP, but I really can't remember. I don't control my original PSN account from '07 / '08 any longer ?
