After doing a level 1 challenge run of the game (during which I sold my soul and booty hole to the game), getting all the achievements on PC and playing the alpha of Nioh 2 (also did a level 1 run for it, ah... those unemployment days were rough I guess...), I decided to get the platinum on PS4 because of hyped I was for Nioh 2. Popular Post Sinastran
#40 - Alien: Isolation Alien: Isolation (Not the most imaginative Platinum name) Another planned milestone. Personally, it's rare to find a game where I don't feel finished with it after getting the platinum or 100%. However, with Alien: Isolation, my first reaction was not to put it down and move on, but to start another playthrough on Nightmare difficulty, and experience the game in another way. This, despite having already 100%'d it on the ol' Xbone. I have a lot of appreciation for this game, and I do think it's one of the best ones ever made. To so masterfully nail the atmosphere of the original movie is a feat in and of itself, but the fact that they managed to leave their own mark which only enhanced the experience instead of detracting from it, can only be commended. This game was made with love, and it shows.

Popular Post Viper
#168 Ratchet & Clank 2016 The Hero of Heroes So back in 2013 we got Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One on PS Plus, it was my first time playing a R&C game as I never thought much of them back in the PS2 days. And I absolutely loved that game...although I kept seeing people say how disappointing it was because apparently it was a spin off. And so one day in 2015, I bought Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus during a sale on the PS Store, which came with a free copy of Quest for Booty. After having Into the Nexus sit in my backlog for about a year, I was going to finally start on it, before I realized that there was a whole section on the Store with ALL the R&C games at a permanent discounted price. So I decided to take the leap and buy everything and just start from the beginning...which also included playing Tools of Destruction and Quest for Booty, which didn't have trophies. So over 3 years later, I finish the journey. 8 Platinums and 10 Games total complete, I really hate that I snubbed these games back in the PS2 days. I thought all these mascot games were for toddlers so I never really thought twice about them. But R&C might very well be my favorite of these mascot platformers. And with Sony acquiring Insomniac I hope we get a sequel to this. While it's technically a remake, it's ever so slightly different to the point where it could really have it's own story going forward without them having to remake Going Commando and/or Up Your Arsenal. Or just start a whole new trilogy line...I'd be fine with that too.The ONLY complaint I have for this entire game is the grind boot sections...something felt under-optimized with them. The number of times I died because Ratchet wouldn't jump right or left was ridiculous. I'd be holding the joystick in the proper direction but he would just do a normal jump instead. If that got fixed, this would be a new perfect game.
Popular Post AJ_Radio
Going to play "catch up" since I haven't posted in this thread for over a month. Pretty much old news for anyone who bothers to read my status updates but I want to cover what I've done. Platinum #200: Dark Souls (July 7th, 2019) Difficulty: 7/10 Excitement Rating: 10/10 Estimated Time to Platinum: 75 - 80 Hours Hardest Trophy: To Link the Fire (Reach "To Link the Fire" ending) There is so much I want to say about this game yet since everyone else has talked so much about it I'm going to keep this short. Dark Souls has turned into one of my favorite games of the past 10 years. The atmosphere, the deep combat, the feel, the difficulty curve was all beautifully designed and crafted. If Demon's Souls started a new trend of combat RPGs, Dark Souls is definitely the game that made it wildly popular. This was probably the best game to pick for number 200 out of everything else in my backlog. Dark Souls will age like fine wine, people will talk about the game 10 years from now for it's excellence and cultural impact on the video game industry. What else can I say? It's a phenomenal game. Platinum #201: Far Cry 3 (July 16th, 2019) Difficulty: 5/10 Excitement Rating: 7/10 Estimated Time to Platinum: 20 Hours Hardest Trophy: Late Night Pick-up (Complete "Rush Hour" Co-op map (Online/Offline)) I had some experience playing this on the 360 but never bothered to finish it outright. Far Cry 3 has a somewhat typical story with a flamboyant antagonist. You and a group of friends take a vacation that turns ugly when you are captured by Vaas. You barely escape with your life while your older brother dies. You slowly take over the island and discover that Vaas is the puppet of a deranged criminal named Hoyt. As is tradition to the franchise, Far Cry 3 puts a huge focus and emphasis on the great outdoors. It's a first person shooter with some crafting elements. Doing the various sidequests and killing the wildlife gives you better equipment and gear. It's all about exploration and discovering all the collectibles. The graphics are definitely dated considering this is a PS3 release. Some missions were frustrating even on the lowest difficulty setting, taking a few attempts to finish. Compared to newer first person shooters, Far Cry 3 has shown it's age and I felt the controls could of been a bit better. The co-op was a shoehorn. After hearing about the shitty Far Cry 3 servers I decided to do all the co-op missions by myself with two controllers. Easier said than done, as controlling two characters was painful and tedious on top of having a split screen, therefore you have to work with a small screen. Thankfully I took advantage of a couple of exploits and eventually got the missions done. Overall Far Cry 3 is a worthwhile experience. Just don't expect anything fantastic, as this game is seven years old and the newer Far Cry games have since eclipsed this one in terms of scope and graphical capability.

Popular Post RedRodriguez87
#246: Spider-Man™: Edge of Time Platinum Continuing my Spidey game streak, this is one I THOUGHT I finished on an old (360) account, but never actually. So I figured I will try to see why. ......And oh man. I mean, I knew this was a step down from Shattered Dimensions, but I forgot just HOW bad it was. Let me get what I actually liked out of the way. The plot is more focused and character driven, which is a plus I guess for something involving time distortions and quantum causality and all that. Daniel Barnes and Josh Keaton are back, recast as 2099 and Amazing Spidey respectively, and both doing great as replacements for the prior actors (and in the case of 2099, being much MUCH more fitting). There are tweaks the movesets that go further in differentiating the two. Finally, the freefall segments were THE most memorable parts of the game, for real. The amount of detail put into these suspiciously long elevator shafts was impressive, an the sense of speed and sense of urgency was exciting, with the standout having to save MJ from a plummeting elevator. And that's it. Going from Shattered Dimensions to this, what was good is now just passable, what was passable is now bad, and what was bad is now worse. We still only have those 5 enemy types (with the worst shield-equipped enemy I have ever fought in any video game), except we now we lost the distinct look and style inherit in the different dimensions. Now everything either looks like a dull industrial brown box in the present, or a dull industrial grey box in the future. The combat is clunky, limited, slow and completely NOT-Spiderman. That unreliable lock-on system has been axed, and replaced with....... nothing. No tweaks, no adjustments, NOTHING. They took a bad situation and made it even worse; what little control you had before in selecting targets is now completely gone. Who you want to attack is now COMPLETELY out of your hands. Finally, that stupid wannabe dynamic camera is back. They brought back the challenges in this game, some involve not getting hit while fighting, but are mostly timed tasks involving building up combos or collecting orbs. They are now situational and could pop up at any moments notice, including while a long unskippable cutscene is playing. Not that the challenge cares, mind you; it will gladly start the timer and waste your precious seconds while you wait for the scene to finish. And I choose my words carefully; A TIMED CHALLENGE WILL START DURING AN UNSKIPPABLE CUTSCENE AND/OR CINEMATIC SLOW-WALK, AND YOU WILL LOSE SECONDS BECAUSE OF IT. The boss fights are completely forgettable. They are only 4, and two of them are set in the same room. Not a big deal I guess, as every room is boring to look at, but I just felt the need to bring it up, seeing as to how the boss fights were the highlights and marketing of the LAST GAME. You figured they would try to get this right, but nah. But like the previous game, what I hated the most didn't involve the gameplay; it involved the characters. Specifically, our main two. Peter, and to a slightly lesser extent Miguel, are so obnoxious and whiny, so devoid of any fun or humor, that I praise the fact a voice volume exists. All they do the entire game up until the last chapter is bitch and moan at each other, each trying to top the other with how bad their predicaments are. But one moment in particular stands out. *context* Miguel, having seen a future where Peter dies in the building, is trying constantly to get him out of there and away from danger, and Peter refuses to listen, cumulating in this exchange. Spider-Man: I'm just trying to stay alive. Spider-Man 2099: If you were, you'd clear out. But you have to prove your bravery. Spider-Man: Bravery? There's nothing I'd like better than to just high-tall out of here? Spider-Man 2099: Then why don't you! Spider-Man: Because what I do here matters, okay? And that's just something I have to live with, even if it means I die with it. You get it, O'Hara?!..................If you don't get that I can't turn my back on danger, no matter what the cost, then you got no business calling yourself "Spider-Man." - So what happens? Miguel is right, and Peter is (nearly) killed. After managing to bring him to the future and revive him, this exchange happens. Spider-Man: I've been thinking maybe staying put isn't a bad idea. Spider-Man 2099: Meaning what? Spider-Man: Someone's always trying to kill me... And there's always a chance of my loved ones being caught in the crossfire. If I stay here, no one I love will suffer or die because of me... Spider-Man 2099: What about all the good you've done, and will do? Spider-Man: You're saying the lives of a billion strangers are more important than my loved ones? Spider-Man 2099: History says that. Spider-Man: Yeah, well history doesn't have to wrestle with guilt. It was here where I sighed, threw up both middle fingers and said "Fuck you." It was a very unpleasant reminder how much I can LOATHE Spiderman, and why I will never be a "true" fan of his. I witnessed this trope so much whenever I tried to get into the series; the insistence on writing him as a jackass who chastises others for their faults, claims he doesn't need help, intentionally makes all the wrong moves, and then has the nerve to whine when things don't work out for him. It's like no matter the situation, no matter his age, he's gotta act like a stupid retard teen. *sigh* I wanna give Beenox the benefit of the doubt, as rushed doesn't even begin to describe this game, but I.... I can't do that. I can't blame rushed production for all these faults. How does that explain the limited clunky combat with stripped down moves from the first game? The obviously newer duller blander models despite damn near every other character asset being recycled from the prior game? The axing of a perfect-ably fine dodge mechanic that you could do for free at anytime in the 1st game, in favor of a gimmicky system where your only means of not taking damage is reliant on a Super Meter that drains super fast, but also fuels your other Super moves that make up the only attacks in the game that are functionally helpful?! And.... that's it. I'm done. There was obviously a reason it was incomplete on my old profile. The game is ass. The Edge of Ass. Ass of Time. Take your pick. Popular Post Undead Wolf
#277 - Alpha Protocol Platinum Earn All Trophies What an underappreciated gem of a game this is. It's an RPG by Obsidian Entertainment (creators of Fallout New Vegas) all about espionage. You travel to various locations across the world, sneaking past enemies, hacking computers, picking locks, making important decisions, etc, all in the pursuit of stopping World War 3. And yes, it is as awesome as it sounds. I love how in-depth it is. There's a levelling system that allows you to allocate skill points to fit your playstyle, you can acquire different perks depending on your choices and relationship with certain characters, and there's a wide selection of gear you can purchase and equip. You can make your Agent Thorton incredibly powerful with the right setup and it feels amazing when you pull it off! There's also quite a bit of camp/cheesiness in this game that I really appreciate. This game is a product of its time and I miss stuff like this. Honestly, this is some of the most fun I've had playing a game in a while. I look forward to Obsidian's next game, The Outer Worlds.
Omelette Paradise
Again, I haven't posted in here for a little while but since I'm on the cusp of reaching my #300 milestone, here's a recap of my last few platinums. #296 Hidden Agenda I had a lot of fun with this. It's like a cross between Heavy Rain and Until Dawn (coincidentally made by the same developers of this game Supermassive) which utilises the PlayLInk system for playing the game and no controllers are required. There's a story mode in which you play through on your own and a competitive mode where up to six people can play (although each player must have their own Android or IOS compatible device). 1 playthrough of each is required for the platinum. My wife helped me with the competitive playthrough and we had a lot of fun playing the game. The story kept us guessing all the way to the end too. Enjoyment: 10/10 Difficulty: 3/10 #297 Storm Boy A very simple game to platinum but within it is a very charming yet heartbreaking children's story (one I was already familiar with having read the book it's based on as a child). Lots of feels at the end. It's very sad. Enjoyment: 8/10 Difficulty: 1/10 #298 Bird Game + So this is an on-rails type experience in which you (unsurprisingly) play as a bird and have to make it to the end of each level whilst avoiding numerous obstacles. It's drawn in a very charming minimalist black and white manner and it really is quite pretty to look at. Any fun I had with the game itself however was offset by clunky controls and at times it felt like I had very little control over the bird. Average to good but would have been better with more finessed controls. Enjoyment: 4/10 Difficulty: 3/10 #299 Sagebrush I really enjoyed this a hell of a lot. It's a first person walking simulator style game in which the game's character explores the compound of a millennialist style religious cult in New Mexico years after they all took their own lives in a mass suicide style event. The game's story (definitely my cup of tea) is told though exploration of the compound and through audio tapes that are scattered around the area which explain the cult's plans and what they believed in. It's short but sweet. I loved it. Enjoyment: 10/10 Difficulty: 2/10

Popular Post Baker
#223 Trials of the Blood Dragon Enjoyment: 2/10 Difficulty: 8/10 Total Playtime: ~40 Hours Normally I post in this thread when I earned a platinum that I’m proud of or that took a long time to complete. Not this time. This is a warning: Don’t buy this game! This is the worst piece of shit I’ve ever played. I loved Trials Fusion so expected a fun game. This game has the worst controls and game mechanics I’ve ever experienced. For the first time ever I almost broke my controller. It also was a lot harder than I expected based of the 2% platinum rarity. I gave it a 2/10 because the soundtrack was pretty good. It never felt so good to delete a game of the HDD.
