PhantomWarcry
#155--Sundered Not to be confused with Severed, this is an interesting Metroidvania that I'm not entirely sure I understood (there's Valkyries and Lovecraft monsters and the art reminds me of El Shaddai). I always see it in sales, but shied away due to not knowing much about it other than it supposedly being difficult. For people who like metroidvanias, it's not actually that hard at all, although it did take me a while to get used to the more unique aspects and I prefer Metroidvanias with a little more NPC interaction, world changes, and other characters travelling through the world in parallel with you. This one's pretty much just combat, platforming, and occasional lore chambers, but you are rewarded pretty well for full exploration. Things I didn't like: some of the later enemy encounters are set over pits of death and it can be hard to keep track of where exactly you are as the cameras zoom out, so I ended up just spamming the grappling hook on enemies to not fall off completely. Bigger enemy attacks also push you back or up really far, which occasionally were useful to completely bypass a difficult platforming section but were mostly annoying. Non key areas are also randomly generated, which brings the level design down a little although it is an interesting solution to making returning to older areas less boring since you'll have to find a different way through every time. There's a bit of an RPG system where you can level up different stats, but it has a cap so every player should end the game maxed out. It's not a must play, but if it's on sale and you're interested, it's decent. Edited May 9, 2021 by PhantomWarcry
Popular Post KabbageDetective
#69 (nice) - Splatterhouse - Make the Voices Stop "Unlocked all other trophies." PSNP Platinum - 12.49%, Overall Platinum - 5.0% Overview I vaguely remember Splatterhouse's release back in the ye olde days of 2010 and I also remember the critical reception it got, and it wasn't good. I would've been twelve at the time, and I was just getting into my "I'm so mature I wish to not play such debaucherous pieces of mindless "entertainment" and only wish to be enriched by highly complex experiences," phase and wrote it off. Kinda wish I didn't considering I had a mini heart attack trying to get this game at a price that wouldn't leave me without other things in my budget like food and rent, but fortunately I got lucky. Not terribly sure what possessed me to try and grab Splatterhouse specifically but it looked like a bloody good time and I've become increasingly dismissive of critical reception so here we are. I will say that I'm really glad I did, and this game taught me that if I wanted to do Beta stuff like "think" or "show empathy" I should turn it off and play BioCuck or God of Soy 2018. Seriously though, I understand why some people aren't a fan of this one, especially considering this style of gameplay was really common when it came out, but it was almost refreshing to play in 2021. Game Difficulty - 4/10 The game isn't terribly good at explaining its mechanics at the beginning of the game ie when you need to know most, and there are some sections near the end that resemble the smell and texture of bovine waste, for lack of a better term, but for the most part it's pretty smooth sailing. After unlocking "Oh Heck You're Gonna Die So Bad" difficulty or whatever it's called I barely noticed the difference bar like two sections, though this game does have a NG+ feature which helps. Trophy Difficulty - 3.5/10 The list is very simple and you'll complete the overwhelming majority of it just by beating the game two times, which as I mentioned isn't too hard. The only trophy that might give people some issue is 'Jason Schmason' as the arenas required to beat it can take twenty plus minutes, and if you die you go all the way back. Perfectly doable with a little practice however. Game Enjoyment - 8/10 I'll be honest, I see the bugs. I see the repetitive combat, small enemy variety, the clearly unfinished ending, the boatload of cut content due to this game's troubled development and this game's weird tendency to take 5-10 seconds after you killed all the enemies to let you proceed to the next area, but I just don't care. I found the combat entertaining and punchy, the voice acting utterly superb, the soundtrack just perfect (mostly, being a big metal guy there's a tonne of great licensed tracks here, but a couple not-so-great ones. You know who you are ) and a length that feels just right. I didn't think "Oh GOD," when I had to go through the game a second time, but just felt glad that I had another reason to give it a go. It's not without it's faults but I must say it was a great time. Also the original three Splatterhouse arcade games are here to play, just as a nice bonus! Trophy Enjoyment - 7/10 Like I said it's a very simple list and you'll be doing most of the actions required to complete it just by playing through it twice. However there are trophies like 'Happy Ending?' which ask you to gather all of the game's collectables, but these collectables are pretty easy to find and are, uhh, pretty incentivising to get by themselves. The arena trophies were also a nice change of pace. Overall nothing too great but completely inoffensive.
Popular Post StewartBros
HEAVY RAIN (PS4) #174 HEAVY RAIN HERO Unlock all trophies It's been a LONG time since I last played Heavy Rain - it was my 5th platinum on PS3, way back in November 2010, and I haven't played it since. Not because I didn't like it - I did - but because I just moved on to other games. Then other games. Then still more games. Fast forward 11.5 years, and I decided that enough time had elapsed for me to fire up the PS4 version and play it again ? I'd forgotten how awkward the controls can be at times, especially the janky character movement, and the Sixaxis implementation leaves a lot to be desired on both PS3 and PS4, but overall it wasn't too bad. The characters looked amazingly detailed back then, and the remastered ones still do. Perhaps not quite up there with, say, The Last Of Us, but Heavy Rain is an early PS3 title, so some dating is only to be expected. I remembered most of the story events, though there were a few moments and plot points that had escaped me. The damn Kamikaze trophy was a royal pain in the ass - I don't recall it being so difficult and temperamental on PS3. I read a lot of posts on various site where people said to hold your controller vertically, as though it were an actual steering wheel, and that this would help the game recognise when you make a right tilt, which is something that many people had problems with. But this didn't work for me, so eventually I laid a board on my lap, placed the controller down flat on it, and lifted it to the left or right as required, and this made it much easier. Still took a few attempts, but was much easier than the many attempts I made whilst holding the controller. Just gave it a gentle lift to the right when the cop cars started chasing me, and I never got hit there, which is the part of the trial that is most troublesome for players. So, I enjoyed playing Heavy Rain again after more than a decade. Yes, there are plot holes, things that don't quite make sense, and obvious technical limitations - again, mainly due to the controls - but I could overlook these in favour of a compelling, dark storyline, where your actions and choices determine how the story will unfold and end, and ultimately, who lives and who dies.

Fun 7/10 Difficulty 3/10 Overall time to platinum: ~16hrs Fun game and even better it came free with PS+. There's zero story and trophies come pretty easily along the way to the last levels. Minor grind for some random misc tropies. Only downside like most race games is a lot of the maps are the same over and over and while the music is great it's only like 10 songs at most so you're getting pretty bored of them quickly.

Popular Post AJ_Radio
Platinum #275: Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (May 4th, 2021) Difficulty: 3/10 Excitement Rating: 8.5/10 Estimated Time to Platinum: 50+ Hours Hardest Trophy: Committed to the Cause ( Reach level 55 in Multiplayer ) I decided to replay Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag for the PS3, having bought that version back in 2014 that basically accumulated dust sitting on my shelf for so long. I bought all the DLC just before the announcement to close the PS3/Vita stores was made, which thankfully Sony has gone back on. Were it not for the tedious and sometimes annoying multiplayer, Black Flag would of been my 2nd or 3rd favorite entry in the Assassin's Creed franchise, behind Assassin's Creed II and mayhaps Brotherhood. Edward Kenway I found to be rather likable with a personality of his own, a definite improvement over the boring Connor in Assassin's Creed III. Of course most every Assassin's Creed fan knows the ship and naval gameplay was taken from Assassin's Creed III, but while that was merely side content there, this is the meat & potatoes in Black Flag. And I cannot place why, but taking over ships and seeing countless Spanish and English enemies die to Kenway's hidden blades never gets old. Between this and Rogue, I prefer Black Flag's more vibrant, colorful backgrounds as opposed to the cold wintry North that much of Rogue encompasses. Black Flag is not a short game. It took me roughly 30 - 33 hours to wrap up the single player base game, with upgrading the Jackdaw (Edward Kenway's ship) to take up the bulk of that time. I did the Freedom Cry DLC for the fourth and final time, which was about four to five hours. The multiplayer, which I decided to do first this time around, roughly took me 15 hours, including having to find people to help me with All Rounder and the Sacred Land trophies. Doing over 50 sessions of Wolfpack all by yourself forced me to listen to a series of podcasts. Black Flag to me is the most obvious example of a single player game with a tacked on multiplayer. Unnecessary and annoying to deal with. I love the single player for this game. The song shanties, the bellows and barking commands of Edward Kenway, exploring uncharted lands and using treasure maps to find treasure, it's literally a pirates game over being an Assassin's Creed game. Assassin's Creed Rogue is just as swaying in that you're not playing an Assassin as much as you're playing a Templar. I may or may not stack Rogue in the near future, I had fun with that one as well. Definitely recommended. For sanity's sake, do the multiplayer first. You will thank me later. Edited May 10, 2021 by AJ_Radio
Popular Post DrBloodmoney
#455 ?#587 Twin Mirror Twin Mirror is the most recent game from DotNod (developers of Life is Strange and Life is Strange 2,) and it is an odd one. It's markedly less ambitious than those games in terms of scope and themes, but clearly more ambitious in terms of technical prowess. The protagonist, Sam Higgs, is a reporter. Or, at least, he was, until two years prior to the events of the game, when an an article he wrote exposed poor safety practices of the mining corporation that was the life-blood and primary industry of his Appalachian home town of Basswood, setting off a chain of events leading to the mine's closure, and the economic depression of the town. The local economy collapsed, Sam became a social pariah, what we are told was an underlying mental health issue with Sam became more acute, his relationship with long-term girlfriend Anna broke down after an ill-advised proposal from Sam, and he left town in shame. At the outset of the game, Sam is returning to the town for, ostensibly, a brief visit, to pay his respects to his old best-friend and co-worker at the local paper, Nick, who has died in a car crash. At the insistence of Nick's daughter 'Bug', he begins investigating Nick's death, which she is convinced can't have been the accident it has been reported as, and throughout the game, uncovers a plot involving a drug ring, an opioid crisis enveloping the town beneath its parochial veneer, and corruption in the police and local business owners. It's a decent, if predictable and short mystery. On the visual front it is really nicely done (if this is the technical quality we can expect from future, DotNod fare, the Life is Strange 3 is something to look forward to.) Lighting and facial-tech are vastly superior to Life is Strange 2, but this was clearly at the expense of game size. (Also - and I wouldn't usually mention this, but in this case it was a serious issue - there seems to be no obvious reason on screen for why the game would routinely get my PS4 Pro's fan going like a goddamned jet engine. Seriously - I had to play the majority of the game with over-ear headphones, and even then, it was difficult to hear the dialogue over the racket. I regularly clean out my fan, so my PS4 is not the issue - it runs other games without this problem, so I can only assume it is a problem of bad optimisation of this specific game.) The game tries to address a lot if different aspects of mental health (I played this game primarily as part of the 'Trophies for Mental Health (Event)' event currently ongoing, and have a much more detailed review of those specific aspects of the game in that thread HERE), but for those who just want the TL;DR summary - suffice to say, I think in covering those areas it largely failed. The protagonist's mental health aspects are pretty clunky handled, and in steering away for anything super specific, it pretty much fails to address anything. On the gameplay side, the game is pretty competent - controls fairly well, had a reasonably - if never terribly impressive - breadth of branching paths. The town of Basswood is filled with fairly well drawn, if archetypal and slightly stereotypical characters, but for the most part, DotNod does a decent job of showing there is more to everyone than what you'd initially think. The writing is competent for the most part, but dialogue is often terribly on-the-nose, and DotNod's fairly well established habit of hitting the player over the head with a sledgehammer and telling them what characters are feeling, rather than showing it with their actions and facial expressions is still here - and markedly more off-putting now, given that the improved tech and visuals now clearly have the capability of showing more with facial expressions than they ever did. It is no longer as necessary for characters to be so clunkily and unnaturally expositional, and so it's disappointing that they still are. Most of the game is in exploring and choice-based dialogue, and that is perfectly fun and fine, but every time the game deviates from that - whether it's in puzzle-solving, Arkham-Batman-style detective-vision reconstructing of a crimes, or the ludicrous and giggle-inducing 'nightmare' sections in which Sam has to do some really silly sections based on pseudo-psychological ideas to 'win-back' control of his own mind from his panicked state - it trips all over itself, and lands on it's face. The game is fairly fun for a single, blind playthrough, but my second one - as a trophy mop-up and in which I did mostly different choices - didn't really result in a markedly different story - just some altered dialogue. I enjoyed it for what it was, but couldn't shake the feeling this was something of a testing ground for the improved tech, which will go on to be used in future, better DotNod fare.

They really become tedious around midway through completing all of the territories. Good news is I only had a few minor bugs like falling though the map a couple of times. I liked all the levels of the game I thought personally they were very well made. All the trophies are straightforward and it was nonetheless a great experience. There is not a challenge involved and the collectibles are not too hard to find with a guide I highly recommend it it's really a classic game with a lot to explore Hopefully I can do the JP stack one day this year! Good times. #247 Alice: Madness Returns Platinum For All Other Trophies Platinum For All Other Trophies 14.68% Rare Enjoyment 10/10 Difficulty 3/10 Soundtracks 9/10 Time Estimated 20-30h Platinum time 6days and 16 minutes Recommendation 10/10 A little review Okay now this game is really amazing! I really liked the horror and the level designs was perfect. Every time I like the level a lot it turns out the next one is even better. The enemies had a great concept to them and the story was great enough to keep me playing. I would say all trophies are overall not hard to obtain but there was still some challenging sections. I think it is a bit harder than Bioshock tho but I liked both of them personally. In the end I'm very satisfied for obtaining the platinum and hopefully I can also stack this game again this year cause WHY NOT loved every second. This one will remain as one of my top favourites for this year! Next platinum? Uncharted: Drake's Fortune PS3 Fingers crossed ? Dead Space 2 I think deserves a lower rarity just because of the pressure of Hard Core. You had to make three seperate saves depending on how comfortable you felt in certain sections, such as the infamous Eye Poke Machine which was nerve wracking, as well as the falling debris. There was also a section after you aligned the satellites in Chapter 7 where you're basically free falling to get to a certain area, where you can easily die from the debris just coming towards you. Awesome game. Fun and worthy challenge. Really wish Dead Space 2 was remastered for PS4/PS5.
Popular Post Jordio
Platinum #14 God of War I Enjoyment: 6/10 Difficulty: 6/10 Time: ~15 hours As someone who has never played any of the God Of War series and really wants to play God of War (2018), I wanted to start from the beginning to get Kratos's full story. While the gameplay was fun for the most part, there are some sections that are really not fun, mostly the platforming (and I love platformers). I started the game on hard only to realize really quickly that when this game says "hard" it really means it. I bumped it down to easy when it became clear that enemies are just massive sacks of hit points on higher difficulties and it wasn't going to be fun to try and slog through each encounter. the only other part of the platinum that gave me issues was the I'll Take the Physical Challenge This was completely fine until challenge 8 where it is just a never ending wave of gorgons and I wanted to throw my controller through a wall. And then came challenge 10 which I believe is almost completely luck based and also sucked, but at least it didn't last 10 minutes like challenge 8. Over all though, pretty good game which introduced one of Playstation's most iconic IPs and I am excited to see what the series has to offer.

Popular Post Cal
50th Platinum! Dreams Welp I did it people I finally hit 50 platinum trophies! I was struggling to think of what could of been my 50th plat, I wanted it to be a game that wasn't very well know or popular and had a ultra rare platinum and then I remembered Dreams! Dreams is kind of hard to explain because it's not exactly a game...more like a toolbox for people to make games, I could say that Dreams is basically garry's mod for PS4 except you can do a lot more with it. You can create games, music, animation, art whatever you want! Its crazy the stuff that people have made just using Dreams, Media Molecule are legends for making this they give you all the tools you want to make a game! Dreams has also open my eyes to just how hard video game developing works Dreams does have tutorials on how things work but...it ain't easy making one and I found a lot more respect to people who can. The trophies are a grind spending certain amount of time in sculpt mode or puppeteer mode, and levelling up to 30 which is what took me so long to get this plat, it's not hard at all just very time consuming and I can see why this is a ultra rare plat because most people just didn't have the time or patience to do everything Dreams has to offer, I found out that being in create mode gives you more exp points so I ended up doing some animation wasn't very good but it was quite fun and I learnt more about the animation process. Sorry for the long read but Dreams is just so bloody underrated and it needs to be talked about more along with more people supporting Media Molecule, I recommend getting Dreams and just playing other people's games, listing to their music, watching their animations and who knows you might just be inspired to make your own dream someday.
