Popular Post Redgrave
- #189: Living Legend - Ghost of Tsushima A very beautiful game through and through and I'm glad it lived up to my expectations from the E3 trailer back in 2018. I have only seen a few Kurosawa films but there were a lot of moments that made me think of them and it was great seeing all the care they put into the homages. This was one of those games that really pulled me in from the start and exploring around never felt tiresome since it felt like there was always something new to see or the scenery was something to admire from either the sky going orange in a forest of yellow autumn leaves to the blue sky reflecting off the snow and giving ice covered trees a distinct glow. There's some emphasis on reflecting in the game and I can't help but wonder if the intention for those beautiful areas was for you to just look and reflect yourself. Getting collectibles was also enjoyable in their own way too. The haiku collectibles let you personalize a headband with a haiku you make, the shrines often brought you to a high place with a great view of the open world or the sea off in the distance, and Fox shrines got you upgrades for your charms. Plus you could pet the fox afterwards I never really got the feeling of the game dragging on with collectibles like a lot of other games. It also helped that you could use the guiding wind to help you find them easier. Combat was pretty satisfying, with the only issue I had early on being that the camera was odd at times because of no lock on but I got used to it after the first few hours and it didn't bother me since. Standoff battles were fun to do as well, and dueling opponents was also pretty neat too because of the arena they would have. I think the best ones apart from the final one were the one where you duel someone in a thunderstorm and the other where it's an arena with swirling crows going around the arena. It felt great when you finished them off in a flashy way too I also found the story to be fantastic as it pretty much was a homage to Kurosawa films but the side-missions involving Jin's allies also felt that way too and they were also really good. The side-missions not involving the other characters had their own kind of story which made me think of The Witcher 3 some, and I was glad they were like that because they didn't feel like tedious fetch quests or anything like that. There are also Mythic Tales which I loved the ink artstyle they had when the storyteller would narrate them. All in all I really loved this game and I feel like it was the Samurai kind of game I was wanting for so long and I hope there is an interest for more AAA Samurai games now that this wound up doing as well as it did. Sucker Punch really knocked it out of the park with this one.

Popular Post JoaLoft
#230 - Erica This time around, I decided to give a Plus game a try: Erica. Contrary to most others, I heard about it before on several occasions, but never got the chance to jump in. Until now. Wildly different from what I'm used to, specifically because it is an FMV-based interactive storytelling game, and it has literally been ages since I played one of these. Think "Heavy Rain" or "Life is Strange" and the like, but with live-action scenes and on-camera acting. The story revolves around the titular character, Erica, who gets involved in a series of murders, as the past of her family - including her own father's unsolved murder - catches up to her and unravels. In terms of gameplay, this is a very light game. Anyone can pick this up, play and enjoy the story. You could compare it to an interactive movie, sort of like what Netflix attempted with Black Mirror: Bandersnatch. You watch scenes play out, and make choices or perform simple actions like opening drawers, reading documents, etc. It's playable with both a controller or a smartphone, of which the latter requires you to download a free app. It's definitely appealing, fresh and fun to experience, even if some plot twists can be a bit predictable. And it's short: you can finish a run in about 90 minutes, so it doesn't outstay its welcome. The game is also designed to be played multiple times, because each time you make different decisions, you look at the game's story from a different perspective and get a few more pieces of the puzzle. Safe to say that after acquiring all five endings and walking different narrative paths, you'll have a pretty complete idea of what's been going on in Erica, plotwise. Special shoutout to the acting, it's done (very) well. Especially Holly Earl as Erica delivers a solid performance, but my compliments extend to the entire cast. Soundtrack is written by Austin Wintory (whom you might know from Journey, The Banner Saga or Abzû), and you can tell this is a great soundtrack, filled with strings, which evokes the right emotions at the right times. I wouldn't always point out the music in a post like this, but in an FMV-game where actual gameplay takes a backseat and traditional acting stands front and center, the soundtrack's role is even more pivotal. Just like in a traditional movie or a TV series. That all being said: this will not be for everyone. It is incredibly light and to get the platinum trophy, you'll need at least five runs (for all the different endings). I did it in seven because I didn't stick to a guide initially and just played (or watched?) for fun, to see where the story would take me if I made my own decisions. You'll be rewatching the same scenes over and over again until you can recite them by heart, though. I do have to point out one thing which I regret: the transcript of the subtitles is off at times. There are a few spelling errors or typos here and there, and sometimes a few lines are just plain absent. Maybe something for the people at FlavourWorks (developers) to keep in mind when they work on their next FMV-centered game. Most frustrating trophy - Paperwork The entire trophy list consists of miscellaneous trophies and collectibles. And most of these collectibles can not be achieved in one single run. Everything stacks, but you need to complete the game multiple times, as stated before. I was able to piece together my last runs eventually, by seeing which trophies can be acquired in one go by making specific decisions. The ones that'll take the most time, are either the collecting of the oleander petals or the documents. For me personally: getting all the documents took me the most time, because I had to specifically go out of my way and make one or two decisions I didn't want to make, to find them. And trophies only pop once the end credits roll, so you always do need to finish the story to net those. In terms of difficulty, however, it's a very easy platinum, for a very easy game. It's still for free with Plus for a few more days, so add it to the library and give it a shot, if only for how unique it is in today's gaming landscape. Best to be enjoyed with a drink of your choice and some snacks!

Popular Post Koori504
Platinum #190: Final Fantasy VII Remake (PS4) Difficulty: 5/10 Enjoyment: 12/10 It's been a while since I've posted here but it feels great coming back again. Last time I posted here was obtaining my 158th platinum trophy. However, I haven't stopped hunting them though. Playing Final Fantasy 7 Remake was marvelous as the nostalgic feeling the came from the first time that Cloud appeared was amazing. This game is a great game to play and the platinum trophy wasn't hard to achieve after learning all the mechanics of the game especially while doing it on hard mode. I highly recommend playing this game even if you aren't going for the platinum trophy. Edited August 2, 2020 by Koori504

Popular Post Henkie-Henkie
#39 - Ghost of Tsushima After finishing The Last of Us 2, I needed a game that was less mentally stressful. I was looking for something different that I had never played before. Ghost of Tsushima was advertised in my local game store and at first, I had doubts whether this was a game I would like. After looking at the State of Play and realizing that Sucker Punch was developing this game, I was convinced to pre-order it. Ghost of Tsushima is a beautiful game and the combat is still fun at the end of the game, which is surprising. The closest thing I have played is Assassin's Creed but it still feels like a compeltely different game. The story is well written and the characters are likable. The side stories were intriguing as well. Overall Ghost of Tsushima is a beautiful, somehow relaxing game with a good story and enjoyable combat. I can highly recommend this game!
Popular Post AK-1138
Platinum #536: Difficulty: 4/10 Playtime: 10 hours, 20 minutes Enjoyment: 8/10 So it's round two for our amaranthine draconian hero... after surviving the not-all-that-rigorous rigours of his first venerated quest, all Spyro wants is a peaceful vacation. Too bad, thanks to the wiles of interdimensional travel (Is that ever a good idea in fiction? Like, seriously?) he is transported into the quirky world of Avalar, which is under attack by a diminutive dinosaur with an unexplained hatred of dragons. Oh well, at least it's better than being framed for vandalism and being forced to kick a giant watermelon around, huh? Spyro 2 does what a good sequel should; build upon what made the original great, improve it ever so slightly, and experiment just a bit to prevent stagnation. In this case, the main focus is on side quests--found within levels and hub worlds--that provide you with orbs that power your progression. Most of them are straightforward yet clever implementations of core mechanics, whereas others get you completely out of left field with gameplay style shifts like hockey and mine cart rides. Some of them feature awkward controls, but 93% of the stuff will prove a minor speed bump at best, and the rest won't prove that much harder (unless you're like me who got a certain boss-related trophy the hard way by choice!). It's still largely a breezy and satisfying time that rarely outstays its welcome. There's a ton more ambition as it pertains to presentation this way around, resulting in something much more like a Saturday morning cartoon than its predecessor. Avalar is full of a variety of quirky creatures, resulting in some highly unpredictable comedic situations. Some of it is a little too broadly slapstick for me personally; the crisp writing is the better half of the game's new direction. It also suits the more expressive animation style of the remasters; the titular main villain in particular is a charmingly evil delight. Overall, I'm largely on board with the changes brought about in Spyro's sophomore outing. They bring about increased range and potential while staying true to the series' roots. It's still a fun, mostly hassle-free time well worth savouring. Edited August 3, 2020 by AK-1138 Playtime was missing because I forgot.

Popular Post Viper
#194 The LEGO Ninjago Movie Video Game Grand Master of Trophies Decided to play this while I was in the process of finding boosting partners for DOOM Eternal. I've been rather burnt out on LEGO games for awhile now...but this game was actually a nice change of pace. You didn't have to run back through story levels in Free Play to get Red Bricks and Mini Kits and all that (though there are free play based world activities to do). There's a higher focus on combat in this game, so you actually have different melee abilities and combos to rack up (there is a trophy for getting a 100 hit combo...my best was 174). And it was much shorter than your average LEGO game. So these minor switch ups to the formula made it feel fresh and I was more invested in it. It's still simple and easy...but if you want a LEGO game that feels different from what you're used to...then play this one.

Popular Post madbuk
#382 - Resident Evil I've been interested in getting into the RE franchise for a while. It's such a big, and popular, franchise in a genre I've never really touched before, and I figured if I could get into it, that opens up a world of possibilities for other games I could try out too (RE itself already has 9 numbered games, and a whole load of spin offs) but I was always too busy with other games to really give up some time to try it out. Recently however, I made a deal with someone that I would play (and plat) Resident Evil, and they would play Chaos;Child if I succeeded. This finally gave me an excuse to dive in and try out this series that I had been interested in for a while. Overall my feelings are a little mixed. On one hand I like the atmosphere of it and the setting, a mansion full of puzzles to solve and death traps to avoid and secrets to find etc. It reminded me a lot of the Croft Manor level in Tomb Raider: Anniversary, which I loved. On the other hand, the limited saving system makes death traps feel tedious, the limited inventory makes exploration and item-based puzzle solving a bit tedious as well if you're nowhere near an item box, and the zombies also get in the way of the puzzle solving fun as they wait around every corner (during the first part of the game, at least.) Those factors really hindered my enjoyment for a while. Eventually I got tired of dying over and over again and just began to follow a guide so I could minimize backtracking, and thus minimize my encounters with zombies. And honestly I enjoyed it far more that way, so I don't feel too bad about it. Once I learned how to dodge zombies and to avoid killing them, so they don't come back as crimson heads, it also became a lot more fun as well. The later parts of the game where zombies don't really spawn and instead you get different enemies like the hunters are way easier to dodge which meant I always felt relieved after leaving the mansion for the first time, because that's when it becomes substantially easier. I enjoyed this enough to continue playing the series. I had already bought Resident Evil 0, and I bought 2 as well after getting this plat since it was on sale, but I'm not in any hurry to get to them. I'll probably have a couple of months between now and RE0 (which I'll do before 2) because I need a bit of a break lol, some of those playthroughs like the knife only + no saving run and the invisible enemies run and the real survival run were kinda stressful.

Popular Post christhedog3
Platinum #77 and Trophy #5000 - Red Dead Redemption 2 Finally finished this total beast of a platinum. A masterpiece of a game that just goes on for too long in the end (trophy-wise). Have to say the story and the characters are some of the best ever written. The gameplay is easy to grasp and plays well. The game world is incredibly immersive for the most part and does feel like a real world. The detail.... R* true to form, they don't miss a thing. Overall the full game feels like they pumped endless amounts of money into production and the finished product is phenomenal. Negatives... the Online. It's definitely better these days, the addition of the roles has given you a lot more to do. Challenges are varied and all in all there's now a decent variety of things to do. When I started, there definitely wasn't the content to flesh out 50 levels of gameplay. The Showdown stuff is bland and unrewarding, the Story was half-baked stuff at best. Prior to the roles the online world just felt dead and empty, with all the locales giving you limited reason to go to them. Less said about the Free Roam missions the better. Nowadays, it's far more like a functioning game world with a good amount of content. Trophy related negatives.. Gold Rush and Zoologist. Just plain silly requirements for Gold Rush, Zoologist heavily luck based. I'm glad R* really ask us to do everything in order to achieve the platinum in their games, but I found these two a real chore. All in all though, the positives outweigh the negatives and it's one of the best games I've ever player. A real shame it likely won't see any substantial DLC. Popular Post ZachBoardyHD
For my 100th platinum milestone I wanted a great game which is Bioshock 2 Remastered: Initially when going into the Bioshock series I didn't think I were going to enjoy it as much as I have which I think mainly because it seemed like a bare bone RPG type shooter game and because it's entirely played in first person (I usually hate first person shooters mainly because I like to see my character and I find it getting into cover, etc. What an amazing game this was too play, as with shooters it can get boring fighting the same enemies overy and over until you finish but with Bioshock 2 you actually have superpowers in a way? This game doesn't restrict you at all with how you approach killing the enemies. I really did like the graphic models/environments used in the game as it reminded me of Alice: Madness Returns with the cartoony (ish) characters and the dark story, except from when you had to travel in the sea to get to a different destination... Oh boy, those segments really did creep me out as I fear open water and the unknown that may be in the water with me and with my suprise with going through a segment with casually looking up to see a great white shark above me! (I've also got a fear about sharks) that led me to pause the game and search if I can be killed by a shark as I just wanted to look at the floor ? I did find the whole checkpoints weird in this game as you can die and re spawn but there is 0 penalty for dying and the enemies that you killed/injured before stays dead/injured, but hey I'm not complaining that it's easier! As I basically went through 95% of the game using my drill as my weapon on Hard so i didn't no have to worry about ammo/money. Also with the hacking, there were far too many hacking mini games which after a while got pretty annoying especially if I fail one as I don't want to be dealing with the bots for 45 seconds so I just resort to loading up a manual save before I attempted to hack the devices. Popular Post SirWaWa
Zone of the Enders HD Very easy and short game but the Damage Control trophy was so hard for me. You have to get A rank on all 5 missions and I couldn't even get A rank on the first one. The first 2 missions depends on the amount of collateral damage when you battle Tempest at the start. You could still get A on mission 1 but then it might be totally impossible on mission 2. Anyways, none of that nonsense happened to me. What I struggled with was the enemies destroying the colony before I could get to them, so that means my battle with Tempest was good enough. After half a dozen tries I finally got A rank on mission 1 so that means I can finally proceed towards platinum. Mission 2, 3 and 4 took took 3 tries and mission 5 first try. I finally figured out it's all about speed and positioning Jehuty. You have to agro the enemies away while not standing in front of buildings meaning your back cannot be facing a building. When the enemies miss shooting you, there should not be a building behind you. While as Jehuty I melee'd all of them except mission 4. You don't want to accidentally miss and hit a building. Took around 3 hours just to do this trophy including re-tries and some playing of the story is required. Level grinding not required but recommended for the small damage boost and higher HP. The entire ZOE HD collection is now platinumed.
Popular Post Rias Gremory
Platinum #130 Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition NA Version. Enjoyment: 6/10. Violence: 8/10. Gameplay: 7/10. Music: 7/10. Platinum Time: 3 days and 15 hours. To begin, round 2 NA version was a good start and work my magic to the bone on story mode. Music was slightly better on the radio that I overlook and over-hear from previous EU version. Re-doing all side quests, cases, races, hidden events etc was a big royal ass pain. It was a good game but again it gets boring in the game but it is somewhat ok in the end and didn't had a problem with it. Getting all collectibles was pretty much up to the grindstone and really takes a big huge toll and but still got the all collectibles trophies done and dusted. Now for my next platinum will be: Tales from the Borderlands. Edited August 3, 2020 by UltraFire121
Popular Post WayfarerFox
Tomb Raider #170 & 171 Time to platinum: 20hours+ | Difficulty:3/10 | Enjoyment: 9/10 Overview The start of the rebooted trilogy. You play as the one and only Lara Croft but this time she's not a season treasure hunter like we all know. She's at the very start of her journey. Following up some leads left by her dad. You end up on an island after your ship crashes and you uncover the secrets of the island while becoming the classic lara that we all know and love. It's her origin story if you like. Pretty basic overview but anything more would ruin it really. Gameplay I think the closest thing you can compare it to. Considering the time that it came out is probably closest to Uncharted in terms of gameplay. Climbing is very similar. Combat is very similar so you could compare it to that the most. You have a basic area to go through so there's not much in terms of exploration a lot of the areas are pretty linear and they have a ton of collectibles around for you to collect and they're not meaningless either. They have stories behind them pretty similar to how Last of Us handles them where each collectible uncovers more back story. A nice touch in my opinion. Characters I think the majority of the characters in this game are pretty annoying besides Lara, Jonah and Roth. Those three are the only ones who seem to have any kind of brain cells honestly. Didn't like Reyes until the very end. Alex you barely see much of him. Whitman don't even get me started. Sam, doesn't seem to care what the island is trying to do to her. There's not much character progression besides Lara which makes sense really since shes the one causing all the mayhem and doing stuff. You see her go from this scared survivor to this hardened elite warrior over the course of the game. Trophies Trophies can be split up into SP and MP since this game has a pointless one added onto it. Nothing too hard to do just a little time consuming and finding players to do this misc stuff now 7 years after the release you can imagine there's barely anyone playing left. Single Player; The single player trophies are all simple enough. It can be separated by collectibles which are all over and you need to 100% the areas as you go along as some areas can not be accessed again after a certain point in the story. So there are missables. Talking to everyone from the endurance is missable as there's different points in the story that you have to talk to people who you are with until you've exhausted all the dialogue. So that is missable. If you do play through this game. Try to find a map on the internet of the locations or you can use youtube. Some can be hard to find and you can upgrade yourself later on to see through walls and stuff so they can be found but the GPS are so small they can barely be seen even with that. Combat trophies where you have to kill enemies with each weapon that will come naturally as you play through as there's a lot of enemies. Then theres misc stuff like kill 10 enemies while they are on ziplines. Make someone drop dynamite and kill two others. These are missable as well if you don't do them at certain points. Once the game has been completed it is hard to find enemies in the right situations. I highly recommend skimming a guide before starting this game to see what can and can't be done. Multiplayer; Probably why this platinum is borderline ultra rare. The online has been dead for years. Probably died out after a year of being online so you can only guess what it's like now 7 years later. Getting to level 60 though luckily can be done solo. I've done it twice for both versions and I'm honestly worn out from how boring it was. I wanted to take a break but I also wanted it over and done with. I want to move on and I didn't want to play future installments just to go back on myself. So I decided to do them back to back. Yeah so you can solo boost yourself to level 60 so thankfully with the help of twitch and shows I needed to catch up on. It flew by honestly. I knew what I was doing so I'd barely pay attention to the screen by the end of it since I knew what was happening. Thankfully there's a helpful glitch as well for the shopaholic trophy. The description is buy all characters and weapon parts but if you buy all characters before Lara is unlocked. When you unlock her you can get the trophy. It didn't work on the PS3 initially but when I quit the game and went back on it popped for me. The rest are misc. You can do most with one other person. The rest you need minimum 4 people to do the ranked stuff so it's not too bad. Boosting sessions on here were great for the PS4 and I already knew a couple of people who helped with the PS3 version as well so had no issues with both. Trophies are not difficult. Just annoying. Find 3 others will probably will be the hardest thing you do. The rest is really easy. Just needs to be planned a little before hand. Conclussion The game is a great entry point to the reboot of the series. So much so I didn't mind stacking the game straight away. It's actually a lot of fun. The story is really good and very Tomb Raider written. If that makes sense. Also has it's huge Uncharted vibes to go with it. The single player is really straight forward has a few missables but read up on a guide before starting. You won't miss anything then. Multiplayer try and break it up if you're not in a rush with anything. You need roughly 1.77million xp to reach level 60 and each game you do solo gives you around 30k and matches last between 8-10 minutes. You do the math cause I'm not. I don't feel like crying at how much time I've spent doing this over the weekend. Key differences between PS3 and PS4 version are literally this. PS4 version has better graphics so it's easier on the eye. PS3 version has a more stable online. Didn't crash once on any game. Much more smoother on the PS3 than PS4. So looks I'd do PS4. Performance PS3. Onto the rest!
