Popular Post DrunkenEngineer
Platinum #33 - Darksiders Genesis (June 25, 2022) Trophy Statistics The Good Isometric view really complements Strife's twin stick shooter gameplay Collectibles are easy to track, nothing is missable Level variety is fantastic with lots of different biomes. The sickly, oozy swamp map stands out in particular. The Bad Platforming is atrocious Apocalyptic difficulty not unlocked from the start What a tale of two halves. A completely fun, straightforward, and exciting campaign playthrough that is almost, almost sullied by level grinding and an honestly unnecessary second required run on the unlocked hardest difficulty. Darksiders Genesis is billed as a prequel to all the other titles and we finally get to play as the oft mentioned Strife. A lot of the familiar elements from the previous games return - such as light environmental puzzles, Metroidvania back tracking, collectibles - framed against a hub world that makes revisiting previous chapters a breeze. With a $29.99 USD launch price we see the series firmly in the AA space, which is honestly where it should have been the entire time. The scope and pacing of the game is appropriate for where its positioned. Character designs are fantastic, I've always loved the cartoon stylizing that is strong in the series. Levels are varied and unique, powers and unlocks feel good. This is really just a good, fun time. Billed as a coop game I played entirely solo. War is present, and pretty much as you'd expect him with a focus on melee, with Strife as the ranged option. I stuck with Strife the majority of the time; the isometric view didn't seem to work too well with War's hack and slash. So now that we've got the good out of the way, let's talk about the bad. The big elephant in the room is the platforming. It's bad. Very bad. I'm stumped why the developers thought intricate platforming puzzles would be a good thing in an isometric game. Thankfully, the most egregious puzzles aren't required for trophy completion. Do yourself a favor and don't bother with the Leviathan Gauntlet puzzle, there is a well documented glitch to skip around that and get the collectible. The story is also completely predictable, but balanced with good voice over performances and some eye-rolling humor. For Darksiders fans this is definitely worth checking out, especially if the third one left a sort of sour taste in your mouth. Recommended! Popular Post Celestial_Lily
Platinum #101- Rider's Republic (PS5) Fun: 6/10 Difficulty: 3/10 Mental toll of doing 50 mass races: -20 points to sanity Time taken: 50 hours Rider's Republic. Apparently I play too many Ubisoft games and I can't stop it's a serious problem please send help Picked it up in a sale, andd it definitely looked like it'd be fun - extreme sports! SNOWBOARDING! Sick bike tricks! And for the most part, that's what it is! Overall I had a pretty good time with it (insofar as working on the trophy list and going around feeling productive doing events and such) and only really felt the grind toward the final stretch of mass races when I'd technically done every other trophy and was just waiting for time to tick away till the next half hour interval came around and another race started. Anywhoooo. I was a big fan of the snow events! They felt super fun, and doing tricks on Snowboards is *chefs kiss* great. I wasn't as much of a fan of the bike stuff due to how much speed you'd lose even thinking of touching something outside of the dirt track you're on, and definitely not a fan of the Rocketwing stuff (it controlled REAL weird. also I sucked at it). I'd recommend it on a sale, definitely. Unless you think you'd be REALLY into it but there's weirdly not a whoooole lot to do and the matchmaking for non-mass races is kind of .. very slightly dead. Thanks for reading Lily's Post-Plat review! ?
Popular Post PooPooBlast
#175 and 100% Final Fantasy VII Intergrade (PS5) I've had quite the unique experience with the FFVII remake. When the game wants to be amazing, it really delivers. When the game wants to be boring, it's slow as molasses. Having said that, the first eight chapters of the game were just downright boring in my opinion with various corridor-like sections and environments that all look the same. It really shows here how the devs stretched the first 4-5 hours of the original game into a 35 hr or so experience so keep in that mind if you're wanting to experience the remake. Nevertheless, I gotta give credit where credit is due which is that chapter 9 and onwards were just amazing that I'm willing to put this bad experience aside. Exploration, plot, weaponry, materia, environments and pretty much everything else got better! This and plus the game was very well-polished, had great presentation and VERY EXCELLENT music (added a few to my playlist). I can't really talk much else about the game without delving into spoilers but all I can say is that this game felt like a massive introduction/prologue of what's to come in the future with the FFVII trilogy. Based on how the game ended, I'm certainly looking forward to the future installments although I do acknowledge that fans of the original might not be so happy that they've changed several major plot points. Trophy-wise, I didn't really encounter any major difficulties except for Weiss in the DLC. Spent about 1.5-2 hrs just trying to beat his sorry ass! (more like he wrecked my sorry ass and I just needed to win once against him ?) Anyway, it felt like I've been playing this game for an eternity and I'm most certainly ready to move on! Onwards to the next game!
Popular Post SirDave1988
#134 + 135 Kurushi/Intelligent Qube (PS4 and PS5) Great SuccessUnlock all trophies in I.Q Intelligent Qube. Who could have ever thought, back in the original PlayStation days of 1998 that, 4 console generations later, we would be earning these things called trophies not only in the most modern titles, but some of our favorite classics as well? Yes, it is a shame that not all of the re-released classics have trophies, but hey, gotta take what you can I guess. I have such fond memories of playing the demo of this on the very first demo disc that came with my PS1 way back in February 1998. Maybe this explains why I found this platinum such a breeze, the 24-year-old muscle memory kicked right back in like I just played it yesterday. It was such a quick, easy game to finish I thought I might as well double down and finish both versions. I'm tempted to try and go for all PS1 classic platinums, especially as they are all now part of the new PS Plus Premium service. Popular Post StraightVege
Oniken #289 20th Fastest Achiever (2 days, 22 hours) If you're tired of games with retro aesthetics pulling their punches when it comes to a truly brutal challenge, Oniken might be just what you need. It fully commits to 8-bit era mimicry—dated design quirks and all—to its own detriment, offering an experience that feels as if it's still trying to maximize game rentals with artificial difficulty all these years later. Merging elements of classics such as Strider and Ninja Gaiden, Oniken is one of those games where you make a bit of forward progress, until some completely unforeseeable trap or enemy springs out and sends you back to the beginning. Of course, coming into contact with any part of most foes will hurt and knock you backwards, even when it makes no logical sense whatsoever. I just love to take damage by barely brushing against the ankle of a boss as he dashes away from me! Honestly, it's trial and error gameplay at its worst, and I'm so grateful the medium has mostly evolved beyond this approach. The game is also infested with boring auto-scrollers for some reason. Fortunately, levels are quite brief, which reduces the frustration a bit. I actually appreciated how you're rewarded for avoiding damage with sword power-ups, that extend the reach of your melee, and can be spent to activate a few seconds of invincibility/drastically increased attack power. This is vital for beating some of the time trials. Boss design is mostly fair, pattern-based stuff as well, which is nice, considering there's a tough boss rush mode. Perhaps I would've loved Oniken back in the NES days, and it definitely has sparse enjoyable moments, but now it mostly feels like a waste of my time to repeat content over and over because some ninja douchebag appeared out of nowhere to knock me in a pit. Give me something more modernized like The Messenger any day. No more JoyMasher games for me, I think. Need help with that nasty boss rush trophy? Popular Post JoaLoft
#290 - Grand Theft Auto III - The Definitive Edition Grand Theft Auto III - The Definitive Edition. The product that revolutionized modern gaming and to this day has still left its mark on many new games we play. Should you replay this one? Well, the answer might surprise you. In Grand Theft Auto III you take on the role of a criminal named Claude, after he gets set up at a bank heist. He ends up being convicted and during a prisoner transport, he is able to bail out when the convoy is ambushed. Claude's goal is simple: move up through Liberty City's criminal organization to find and kill Catalina, the woman who shot him and left him for dead at the heist. The open world is a lot smaller than today's sprawling open world games, which shouldn't surprise anyone - the game was released over 20 years ago. And the same goes for its features and mechanics: everything works, but it's been surpassed a very long time ago, so gameplay and gunplay is pretty basic. It's still got some entertainment value, and acquires its fuel mostly from being a "blast from the past", that nostalgia when you boot up a classic you haven't touched in a decade or two. Those basics work exactly like they do in recent GTA games, concerning health, armor, police, weapons, and so on. There are hidden packages to collect, some side missions and activities to complete. And... that's pretty much it. Grand Theft Auto III functions well, especially after patching what was essentially an embarrassing remaster collection at first. But a lot of this old classic doesn't hold up well, after I gave everything some thought. The majority of radio stations are not fun to listen to. Most of the rock and pop radio stations are annoying even: some mediocre and plain bad songs, and the station calls are merely okay. Chatterbox is by far the funniest to listen to, but even that grows thin after a dozen hours. There aren't many radio stations and they loop constantly, so if they're not fun to listen to in the first place, their incessant looping makes you turn them off. Vice City and San Andreas have much better radio stations, and I even just started listening to some Radio Espantoso from Vice City while I played GTA 3. More on those radio stations in the future if and when I go for the Vice City and San Andreas platinum trophies. A lack of a climb or grapple mechanic adds some frustration. Making Claude jump feels very clunky and can get you in real trouble if you don't line up your jumps. The pedestrian AI is dumb: when you're driving down a road at high speed, pedestrians would just jump out of the way on the sidewalk. To the wrong side, no less: straight in front of your car! If you have a cop or cop car close by: have a Wanted level. Gee, thanks game. But most of all: the way you experience Liberty City after the final story mission defies any video game logic. So you deal with every gang in Liberty City, pissing them off and killing their leaders to get to Catalina. You expect a nice reward for reaching the end. What are you rewarded with eventually? A city where every gang hates you and starts shooting at you when they spot you. You can't cross into most territories post-ending without bullets flying into your car. And if you don't escape quickly, you run out of HP and respawn at the hospital. Even Tommy Vercetti earned respect when he dealt with the crooks of Vice City, and then some. The final nail in the coffin is Claude himself: he's an unlikeable mute who lacks any personality or motives besides the story set-up. And as stated, almost everyone hates him at the end of the game. Such a charming protagonist. One of those rare instances I thought I'd never say this - I don't recommend this GTA. I know, I was not expecting to say that either. But here we are, nevertheless. It's too old-fashioned, too clunky and too shallow to properly enjoy and savor these days. Back in 2001, this was the shit. Today, it's a glimpse of a bygone era. It paved the way for far superior games, and it deserves to remain in the past as a distant but fond memory of different times. I do recommend you pick up Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition as a whole, if only so you can score the other two amazing games. Most frustrating trophy - Is That All You've Got? "Is That All You've Got?" is your typical run-of-the-mill complete the game for 100%. That means completing all missions and activities (story and optional), stunt jumps, Rampages, car import/export lists and collect all Hidden Packages. This is the last trophy you'll earn and once you do collect everything, you'll get all weapons for free, all the fanciest vehicles (including the badass Rhino tank for ultimate mayhem), health and armor boost and so on. But it felt pointless the more I completed it, because the rewards you reap from completing everything, would have served better use during the actual story and optional missions instead of giving you access to the toys once you feel about ready to put the game to rest. Not to mention the money you receive for completing the various tasks. You'll be sitting on so much cash by the end that all those millions of dollars are worthless by the end. An unceremonious end where you are filthy rich and have access to every gun and car, but everyone hates you in the city where you live. How is that anything but a valuable lesson about life's real riches?

Popular Post Rick_Sanchez
Platinum 277 Fun: 9/10 (3/10 for collectible grind) Difficulty: 7/10 once level 90 Final Fantasy XIV makes its way to PS5 with a whole new trophy list and it's both better and worse than the previous list. It's better as it includes trophies for the expansion which was missing from the original list. And it's worse because of two particular trophies related to collectibles for both the crafting and gathering classes. You'll naturally get a majority of the trophies playing through FF XIV and exploring all it has to offer but the two road bumps will be crafting 5,000 collectibles and gathering 8,000 collectibles. The hardest trophy in the base game is completing the 2nd coil of Bahamut savage raid which after getting to level 90 and running it unsynched to keep you at level 90 with another person or two it will be a cakewalk.
Popular Post Moridin83
#219 Nobody Saves the World I was a major fan of Drinkbox Studios Guacamelee games, so buying this was a no brainer. Thankfully, it largely lived up to my expectations. It's a decently deep hack and slash, with a large number of abilities to mix and match across the memorable classes such as Zombie, Monk, Ranger, and...Horse? Yes that's right, Horse is a class in this game. The graphics are crisp and expressive, and the audio is solid, if unspectacular. The ability to set abilities from multiple classes and multiple passives on any class allows for tremendous flexibility, while character specific challenges ensure you'll try them all, and get to grips with possible playstyles. It has one unfortunate similarity with my last plat, a new game plus trophy. It's slightly less egregious in this one, as the dungeons all get new modifiers, such as increased enemy health, or decreased mana cost, or the ever interesting all damage x9999, essentially turning everything (including you) into ultra glass cannons. Despite this, it's still not different enough to make a second playthrough feel really compelling. All in all though, highly recommended, and a lot of fun. Popular Post No longer here
#162 - Titan Souls Enjoyment/Rating: 8/10 Difficulty: 6/10 Time: 15 Hours PSNP Rarity: 1.92% PSN Rarity: 1.3% After yet again another game in my backlog for several games, I finally found the right time to play it. Basically to summarized the game you have one arrow to slay a boss and you die in one hit as well. However, you must find ways to slay the boss without ever getting hit, idea sounds masochist, but it's not as bad as you think. This indie boss gauntlet type of game was fun and creative in lots of ways. the art and aesthetic of the presentation was nice, and most of the bosses required some nice puzzles to figure in order to defeat the boss. Game reminds me of "Hotline Miami" or "Broforce", two similar in artstyle (kind of) and have the same one hit-death mechanic which works well in this game too. Overall the first playthrough was really fun and nothing too groundbreaking of quality, it knew what kind of game it wanted to be. The game wants to have replay value as it has modifiers to make the game different. After you beat the game on normal once, it unlocks everything else. The hard mode was fine and made some bosses more chaotic then they should be, I was expecting more movesets but actually the bosses just attacked faster and take up more space, which was okay. Iron mode is basically permadeath mode, which has to be combined with hard for the hardest trophy in the game. The worst mode imo was the no-roll mode, meaning no dodge or sprint to avoid attacks. It kinda sucked cause it slowed the game down but it wasn't too terrible until the final two bosses.... sheesh. On my road to platinum, all of these had to be done. Luckily there is a cross-save glitch that can help make the game easier and save you lots of time, however you will still have to fight the hardest bosses of the game, which means skill and knowledge of the bosses matter a lot here! Overall I was satisfied with the game and had a memorable experience of it, and will always! The other modifiers were kinda okay, but it made me understand the game a little more and prepared me on the road to platinum. I would recommend this to an indie fan and fans of boss gauntlet-like games!
Popular Post Jermster_91
#102 Last Stop For those that have played games similar to Telltales The Walking Dead or The Batman, this game will be familiar. You take the perspective of three different characters where you get to make choices that sadly don't really effect the story that much until the end, which is kind of a downer. However, the game tells a good story and is a easy platinum to boot as well.
Popular Post FarSideOfSaturn
#48 The Last Campfire - Earn all trophies So, I've been taking my time with Elden Ring, over 200 hours into my first playthrough so far and after my encounter with Malenia (it took 106 attempts to beat her if you're wondering) I wanted to take a short break. So I bought this! I was looking for something along the same lines as The Talos Principle (absolutely love puzzle based games to chill with) and this was the closest I could find in nature if not a replica of TP's gameplay. What a decision I made buying this. Legit the cutest game ever, you play as an ember whose life is royally screwed over by a bird (just like in Elden Ring, fuck those birds in Caelid), and she gets herself lost. And so begins an adventure through multiple worlds as you attempt to get your ember unlost, with themes of life, death, kindness and emotions when all hope is lost throughout. The game itself is pretty simple, genuinely, you won't even need a trophy guide. I didn't find any of the puzzles a challenge which normally would bother me, but the art style reminded me a little of ICO, the dialogue is the cutest and the soundtrack is chill af so I ended up not caring that it was super easy. Absolutely loved everything about it and it served it's purpose perfectly. All I wanted was something that'd take me a day or two to finish and relax me a bit, that's exactly what I got. I feel ready again to take more Elden Ring ass beatings. I'm now going to go and listen to the OST on repeat until I fall asleep.
