PlayStation's new censorship making you move away from the brand?

The toned down gore shit is a wank. Don’t really care about them removing nudity. Although it does kinda make an 18+ rating seem pointless.

None of these things would/will stop me from buying a PS5.

If there ever came a day when you could only buy G rated games about lollipops and rainbows on Sony consoles then I’d jump ship.

If I remember correctly the policy revolves around avoiding sexualizing under aged women in games. I wouldn't exactly call it the most controversial censorship. I'm sure there could be a level of censorship where I would find problematic, but Sony is far from reaching that level. Honestly, I'm pleased about this particular censorship. I have people I know in real life in my PSN friends. I don't want to accidentally stumble across some game with some....seriously inappropriate material in it and have people thinking I was looking for that kind of stuff.

Censorship? No, not really. I assume we're talking about Japanese games here since that seems to be what Sony has mainly targeted with censorship. A lot of these games are censored in some way or another anyway on consoles, even if it isn't explicitly stated. Those VNs on Switch aren't exactly the original 18+ versions either, even if they do have less censorship than they do on PS4.

I am however, kinda disappointed in Sony recently. I couldn't be any less excited for the PS5, it just doesn't really appeal to me despite having some games I am interested in getting. I felt the same way about the PS3 and didn't get one until 2008, I imagine I won't get a PS5 until 2022 or so either. I was however, super excited for both the PS2 and PS4 and got both at launch.

I've never been a big Xbox fan, never had an original Xbox and didn't get a 360 until 2011-2012. I've barely touched my Xbox One in the 7 years I've owned it. However, the series x seems a lot more interesting to me than the PS5 so far, probably thanks to Microsoft seemingly being more in touch with their consumer base shockingly (albeit being kinda cringey about it with memeing themselves and shit), the save state/resume feature, the continued support for backwards compatibility, there's some exclusives I'm actually interested in this time (The Medium), the fact the series x actually feels more like an evolution of the Xbox One rather than trying to be all hip and new with the ugly as shit Dualsense and PS5's design in general, etc.

I'll probably still get a PS5 before a Series X due to it still having more exclusives I'm interested in, and just being more invested in Playstation in general. But I feel like Sony has gotten just way too arrogant lately, they seem to think their position in the market is untouchable once again because the PS4 has sold so well. They were kinda the same after the success of the PS2 and at the PS3's release. Also kinda reminds me of Nintendo's smugness with believing a console with the same name as their previous super successful console with a U slapped on the end and a gimmicky gamepad would sell like hotcakes. There's nothing worse than a company believing their products will always continue to sell well just because of brand name, and then forgetting what actually made them sell in the first place.

Thats why xbox will win this gen, micro start workin white Sony is getting lazy. (Ps. Service quality was always playstation achilles heel, maybe work on this first, then upgrade your trophy system.) For question mention by OP. Yes it might move me away from Sony`s brand.

Ps that why ill root for Xbox, if Microsoft win in the end will push PS to try harder.

I had to very seriously consider whether to support Sony by buying the PS5 given their disgusting, insulting, hypocritical, puritanical and quasi racist censorship policy.

ultimately I’m too invested in the PS platform with digital games and the trophy system, and MS deleted my old Xbox account from the 360 days, so I begrudgingly pre ordered.

I console myself that they are likely losing money on my console purchase, and I’ll continue to buy games mostly second hand and trade back so they make limited profit from me (apart from on PSVR which I want to support).

No, this is 100% completely wrong. It relates to censorship on cleavage and panty shots of adult women, and anything that is considered by today’s standards as being un-pc or non consensual (of fictional characters, obviously).

I mean, as much as I'm not really a fan of censorship, I'm not gonna lose my sleep over a few anime tiddies, especially since, for one, I'm not really interested in anime games (or anime in general), and, for two, there are already options as far as the eye can see (and even further) on the Internet.

And, as for violent content, most iterations of it being censored are in Japan, of which I'm not a citizen of. Sure, there's that whole argument of "but ya didn't stand up to the little guys before, what if they go after you now?" But, with games like MK11 and Doom: Eternal getting a pass, I honestly can't really see something getting censored for that over here anymore. And, even if it was... IDK if I would care that much either if it was done well (unlike, for example, MK vs. DC... that was just lame :P).

I doubt any version of a game will be less censored on Switch than it is on PS5.

So far, Nintendo has made major strides with their lax censorship. They're much less restricting in the past year or so compared to PS4.

It’s kind of pathetic how Microsoft and especially Nintendo of all companies allows games to be completely uncensored when it comes to violence/nudity on the Xbox One and Switch yet Sony are being a bunch of pathetic agony aunts and thinking people can’t handle a bit of boob or blood and censoring games.

I hate censorship in movies and games.

Nintendo and Microsoft are treating people like adults whilst Sony treats us like little children.

i’m considering skipping PS5 and just sticking to Switch.

No Cyberpunk is not going to be censored. Have you forgotten the Last of Us 2 sex scene? Also Wolfenstein was censored due to German laws not allowing Swastika symbols. Sony can’t do anything there.

At least I tried to forget that ever happened, so "thanks" for making me remember?.

Well all you really saw interms of intimate details were some Arnold classic qualifying pecs. I read that Cyberpunk has customizable genitalia and other unusual things that involve seeing a bit more than some pecs, and Conan Exiles got genitalia censored on PS4 for the most part, I think Americans got everything censored. We know how childish the USA and also Japan recently are with nudity related things so I am not ready to believe that it will be uncensored just yet, and until that is completely clear I will not consider buying it, no matter how much it actually affects the experience. Buying it on PC is just the safer option, if I even want to buy it at all, I can't say that the Cyberpunk theme is appealing to me all that much by itself so I would buy the game on nothing but CDPRs track record of putting out great games.

Not toward Xbox or Nintendo, but to Steam... where pretty much all these games still end up, uncensored.

It's not even so much the censorship itself, but the audacity of it all. They are having California dictate what is and isn't acceptable for Japanese developers making games for Japanese audiences. They make them converse with SIEA in English, in California time to then force them to censor games to appease the ideologues that work there even if they don't even intend to release it in the west. It's stupid.

And I'm gay, so none of the games are even made for me that get censored anyway. I'm an adult, I can pick what I want to consume. I don't need California to tell me what is and isn't okay, just sell the stupid product. You let garbage like that black tiger game on the store, but god forbid a game with some anime tiddies show too much. The horror. But it's fine to have a fuck scene in Part 2! ?

Ultimately I've spent less on PlayStation as part of this. But I'm not going to avoid the platform entirely, I just will probably focus my niche games on Steam instead. I can get them cheaper there and play online for free. Plus mods.

Funny how this wasn't so much of a glaring issue when Sony's headquarters was still in Japan. Since 2017 - 2018 or so, there have been a number of Japanese games that have either been censored on the PS4 or just not there at all.

The Switch, PC and Xbox have been more lax with allowing Japanese developers to release their games uncensored. Which goes back to the argument I've been using for years: Censorship groups are only interested in their own interests. Some little kid might get his hands on some nude content, then they decide to let some stores discontinue carrying it.

It never works, yet America has a fixation on censorship which is a big reason why the entire country has gone down the shithole in the past 10 - 20 years, if not more.

No, it has nothing to do with California. It is just Right Wing people who shit on California for its Left Wing Liberal Ideals like SJW. This is so fucking common of "blame California for Sony's change" that I am just going to copy paste the last time I answered this.

Sony Interactive Entertainment Headquarters (division that controls Playstation) has been in California since April 2016, only in late 2018 the censorship changes started happening. Also Santa Monica the creators of God of War a series filled with blood and sex (in the original games) has had their headquarters in California since 1999.

The recent changes inside Sony started when, they got a new CEO named Kenichiro Yoshida (not Shuhei Yoshida) and he became CEO in April of 2018 and since he is the CEO of Sony overall, (Sony still based Japan) he can make decisions that affect Sony Interactive Entertainment (the one based in California) and overide control from John Kodera the CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, when he feels like he needs to. Also here is the thing, Kenichiro Yoshida has talked about the Image of Sony in some meetings as in that he wants to change the image so they can appeal to more people and in another meeting, he specially pointed out that he wanted to put his attention to the gaming division which is PlayStation and Fate Grand Order (So far FGO seems to be immune from censorship, probably because it makes billions in yen.)

So it isn't California or America or John fault but it is actually Kenichiro's fault since it was during his tenure that these decision started happening. It also makes sense since he took power in early 2018 and all this censorship bullshit has been happening in late 2018 and it also fits in his plan for the Image of Sony of appealing to the mass public.

This is such an old copy and paste that I still have John Kodera as CEO. The current CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment is actually Jim Ryan but everything still applies.

Lol I still remember the first time I was typing this. The guy was also crying about SJW, he thought John Kodera was an SJW because he thought he was a white man from California and not a Japanese man who moved to the US to be part of SIE. He couldn't even fucking Google the dude, nor that Sony is still based in Japan and that Sony still has a big role in controlling what Sony Interactive Entertainment does.

Overall, I actually agree with OP that some game developers are fleeing from Sony to Nintendo and Steam but rather than blaming California or the Sony Interactive Entertainment Division. Blame Kenichiro Yoshida and Sony based in Japan, they want a safer image to appeal to the mass audience.

An adult will admit when he or she is wrong and I was wrong and did not know any of that. I honestly thought it was the move to Cali cause of all the Western ideals that they have been changing to. But didn't copy and paste other peoples opinions.

But I am not wrong on the Playstation is making a mistake part.

Nope.

Also - 2 points I’ll make:

1. Censorship is when a government or ruling body bans something from all outlets. A company banning something from their own product line is simply business.

2. Using ‘SJW’ as a pejorative is dumb. Being against ‘social justice’ is not really something to brag about. The opposite of ‘social justice’ would be ‘social injustice’... are people really proudly proclaiming they are pro-injustice?

Oh, I didn't accuse of copy and pasting your opinion. I was say that I am copying and pasting my reply since it's the same reply I used against someone earlier that week. Which also if you feel I was being aggressive, I apologize. The anger wasn't mean towards, rather it was previous resentment over the last person I used it against originally.

Also I agree with you in that Sony is making a mistake since they are scaring Developers from Sony to Nintendo or Steam. Like Disgaea 6 is now a Nintendo Switch exclusive, Disgaea has always had a strong connection to Playstation but now they are switching.

I also wanted to pointed out that it is the fault of the CEO of Sony, Kenichiro Yoshida, not because I wanted to defend California but because I want to point out the Hypocrisy of Sony with Playstation and Fate/Grand Order. All those policies they applied to Playstation to make it more approachable to consumers by tone down the sexual and violent aspects of games but none of these policies apply to FGO because they know God damn well, if those policies were applied to FGO which caters towards anime fans, who are usually into sexual and violent content, that FGO would suffer big. From the last report I read FGO makes 2 million dollars a day, so they don't want to mess with a constant stream of profit.

What I wanted to point out is that Sony is doing these policies, not for some liberal ideology but because of money. They want to appeal to more casual people, to earn more money. If it was ideology they would have applied to FGO but nope. They don't give a fuck about politics, they just want money.

Kind of sad that you say something this messed up. Porn for some people, is quite disgusting. Not only that but it has also affected the brain in harmful ways.
