Since the last time I posted in here, it was announced that the PS3 and Vita stores would be closing imminently. This encouraged me to go through all of the games I was on the fence about playing and decide on the "final" list of my PS3 backlog. I ended up spending a good chunk of money on the store before I no longer had the opportunity to do so, and I'm more determined than ever to get through this backlog. So yeah, the 'Games I haven't started' section looks quite a bit different than it did last time. I also recently completed Battle Princess of Arcadias, so I checked that one off.

Been some time since I last updated since I mostly played PS4 games last month for the Kill Your Completion event.  Finally got back to PS3 stuff and have made a small bit of trophy progress in Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny.  Right now I'm mostly working on miscellaneous trophies to build up money and buy all the house upgrades and in the process I'm working on the crafting, fishing and catching a cold trophies while also trying to build affection with the various NPCs as well.  No story progress yet, but I know it will be useful to get these awesome crafting and cooking skills now and knock out some of the more annoying trophies.

I finished this one a month or two ago and just updated my columns. I have to say I am quite disappointed in myself though.. I can see that the last time I updated was 4 months ago, and in that entire time I’ve only knocked off 1 PS3 game from my list. ☹️
 

Some positive news though - After a recent discussion here on PSNP, I was finally feeling motivation to start working on the horrible grind to level 50 in Max Payne 3 which will be my last online trophy for that game. It’s a particularly boring and tedious grind compared to most games so I’m trying to commit to setting aside 1-2 hours out of every day to grind some XP. If I can get at least 1 level per day, I would be done in a month!

April Update

 

New excuse for not focusing my PS3 backlog is that I couldnt resist the PS NOW offer of 1 US Dollar for a month of subscription so I ended up getting that on a dummy account and playing a bunch of PS4 titles which I wouldn't usually play. However, I still managed to complete a couple of PS3 titles and I'm definitely more focused this time. I plan on getting PS NOW for this account (UK) so I can go ahead and stream many of the PS3 titles which I've been meaning to get but it will definitely be after I finish GTA 4.

Contender for game of the decade. This is my second stack of the game as I love it so much which inevitably became my 175th platinum milestone. There are so many beautiful aspects of the game which touch your heart even when things may look hopeless. Joel and Ellie are two of the strongest fleshed out characters ever written who will make you love them for their strengths and flaws with each chapter.

Nothing really to say here. It's a simple arcade survival game which has you 'race the sun' while avoiding obstacles and using power ups. Basically a 'go as far as you can go' concept which gets boring pretty damn quickly.. Hell, least it's off my backlog now because I started it years ago when I didn't trophy hunt and took me til now to go back to it.

What a mess all that store shutdown stuff was, huh? I'm glad Sony decided to go back on it. There's so many great games on the PS3 and Vita that deserve to be played! On the upside though, it got me to finally go get all those games I had been saying Maybe to for years, and now I have big update! ...Of course, that just means the backlog got even bigger, but whatever! More completion! I'll make this one a lightning round, starting with a bunch of no-plat 100% games.

 

Linger in Shadows

This isn't so much a game as it is a "demoscene," something apparently done back in the day to sort of show off what hardware can do. It was neat! Kind of dated these days, and very short, but still neat. It's fun to see all this weird stuff made to advertise the "cool new features" of the then-new PS3. 

 

Bentley's Hackpack

Made as promotional material for Sly 4, it was SO much fun to get back into the Sly Cooper scene again. I hadn't played these games since I was a kid on the PS2, so being able to hear Bentley's nasally voice again was much to my ears. The game itself is pretty fun, just a collection of three minigames and various trials within them. Hopefully I'll get to the Sly Cooper Collection, and Sly 4, soon!

Another one of those weird "games" that's really more like software, this game was made to show off how the PS3 can store your music! I honestly forgot it could even do that since it's such an underutilized feature, but hey, it works! It's pretty trippy, but it also lasts for less than 15 minutes, so, whatever.

 

Stacking

I'm so happy I was able to get to this, I had heard about this game for ages. It's made by DoubleFine, and you play as a tiny Russian nesting doll that can stack into other people and use their abilities. It's just as funny and charming as you'd expect from that studio, and the puzzles are really fun too! Definitely give this one a go if you're looking for a cute, short game to make a day or two go by, especially if you don't mind that it doesn't have a platinum. It's just how they did digital games back then. Don't forget that hobo king DLC too!

 

Batman: Arkham Origins

Back to the land of actual platinums, this one has been a long time coming. Kind of the "black sheep" of the Arkham games, Arkham Origins is notorious for having online that should have been shut down long ago, but just keeps crawling its way back to the surface again and again. I got the online done for it long ago, but still had two more playthroughs that I've only now finally gone back to. It was pretty fun! Not as amazing as Arkham Asylum or Arkham City, but I certainly have fun. I don't know if I could recommend it to trophy hunters though. Even two playthroughs was more than enough for me, let alone considering the no-death one, and the online is really a dealbreaker. Oh well! Still enjoyed myself for what it is, even if it looks like it's been left behind for the future of the franchise. This was also my first Ultra Rare of 2021, so that's fun!

 

Heavy Fire: Afghanistan

This one's a real stinker, haha. I found it randomly at a used game store I was exploring and just HAD to know what was going on there. It's an on-rails shooter, and a pretty bad one at that. The enemies' guns don't even make noise, and yours barely does either. Story that's non-existent, the barest of the bare in voice acting, and the smallest effort possible in enemy placement and game design make for a game that has very few redeeming qualities. I love garbage though, so I ended up enjoying myself lmao. No regrets, not even for this one.

I've noticed that I seem to complete 1 game every month, so at this rate I'll be done in like 6-7 years. Anyways, on to my completion:

F1 2012 joins the completed games pile, as one of the easiest PS3 F1 games. F1 2010 is a massive grind, F1 2011 requires you to complete an entire season on hard, F1 2013 has more online races and I haven't played F1 2014 yet, so idk. This is the list of games that I've played:

What to say more then super easy game with bunch of rare trophies and platinum. All you need to do is move the slider up and pres X after each workout and you get a perfect score. Works only for european version though.

Update time!

I just wrapped up my first run of Dragon Age II tonight. It took about 70 hrs.

Looking at the remaining trophies, I've got at least another full playthrough ahead of me, although I don't necessarily have to do all the side quests. And of course two DLC content, which I already bought. It will probably take me another two weeks or so to complete everything.

Yep, things are going a little slower than I expected.

 

Edit: Oh and since last time, I installed and synched the trophies of all my physical games, so now I got a bunch of 0%s on my profile.

Finished the base game and the two SP DLC's. Super nice game, really don't understand why I didn't finish back then. Right now I still have to grind/boost to lvl 50 in teh MP to get the last trophy and get the 100%

Or non update, my plans were squashed by life and lack of motivation, so I barely turned on the console this month, played between nothing to 20 minutes each time and shut everything back down without making any real progress. Hopefully May will be better for me.

APRIL

• Yakuza 3: 75% > 79% - Finished Coliseum and started both Ultimate Skill and Ex-hard playthrough
• Defiance: 52% >  (58%) - Managed to platinum this before the server shut a couple of days ago but the dlc are all glitched so no chance at 100% 
• Fallout 3:  0% > 2% - Just started 

I spent the majority of time in April working on Defiance. Originally when I heard the server was closing, I wasn't sure I wanted to invest the time trying to get the plat. The last few server closures I've tried have left me with incomplete games, so I was reluctant to put all my time into another one. Thankfully there was enough time and people to get this done at a reasonable pace. Trion, who pretty much abandoned the game and its issues, even assisted by increasing rep earned and gifted players with extras. Looking to try my first MMO, I started this back in 2013, but feeling overwhelmed and lost by it all, I gave up and moved on to something else. Coming back to it now with a bit more experience, I still felt the elements were hard to wrap my head around. The game was ok - not bad but not great. A little too repetitive and not enough incentive to keep grinding away. I jumped online for the last hours before the closure and found a whole bunch of players gathered at one spot. I found this game had quite a dedicated community. People were in the chat talking about how much they loved the community and what the game meant to them. It was actually pretty amazing to watch right before the game shut and became no more. 

 

And with that, I have my 2nd plat for the year. Started Fallout 3 and continuing with Yakuza 3 now. I've also dived back in to Black Ops zombies trying to finish these trophies, but I am really not good at this game. It's going to take a while.
