LastPisTolman
I'll keep it to the three that immediately jumped out in my mind. God of War III - Poseidon was a blinding opener, and Hades was a masterpiece of design and atmosphere. Devil May Cry 3: The three Vergil fights. The music and the settings (top of a skyscraper lashed with rain being the best) Best of the Best: FFXIV: A Realm Reborn - Bahamut Prime. The music, the journey up to that point, the mechanics, the conclusion.

MNG_ARG
I love it when the bosses are also relevant for the story, and because of that my favorite games may be Metal Gear Solid (specially I + II). Makes the encounter more meaningful!

Woop982
The End was the best and the most memorable boss for me. I remember when i was younger i was so scared to fight him and i would just camp in one spot, then he would sneak up behind me and put me to sleep instantly. And if that happens Snake gets moved into a prison. It's so awesome!
Viktorx2001
For me the best boss battle of all time is the final boss in Jak and Daxter The Precursor Legacy. The fight itself is epic. You get to see the whole world you have been travelling across. It feels so good. And you're fighting an enormous robot while the silo is opening right beneath your feet. The soundtrack for this boss was absolutely fenomenal! One of my favorite game soundtracks of all time. When I was little, I died on purpose at the end of the boss fight just to fight it another time. Naughty Dog sure knew how to make you feel good! Slava
Spider-Man on the PS1 had cool boss battles. You fought some of the most iconic villains (Scorpion, Rhino, Venom, Mysterio, Doc Oc and Carnage), they all were different, and there was a trick to each one if them, the heavy guitar music tracks that played in those stages were very cool and aggressive. Fun stuff. The sequel on the same platform also had some iconic Spidey villains, but those battles and the game itself weren't as good. Of course, I have to mention Metal Gear Solid. Every boss battle in the game is cool, and creative, and unique, and memorable. People usually name the battle against Psycho Mantis as their favourite because he breaks the 4th wall, and the way you beat him is unlike anything you've seen in games before and after. But I will do you one better and say Decoy Octopus. Because the way you beat him goes far beyond even that. If you know, you know ?. edit: I just realized both games have bosses with animal names, lol Edited April 20, 2022 by Slava
Crzy Minus
Sans’s battle in Undertale Memes aside, I do personally think it’s a fantastic battle. It’s challenging, intense, memorable, his spoken dialogue is quotable (“you’re gonna have a bad time”, “geeettttttt dunked on!!!”), the battle theme (MEGALOVANIA) has become iconic at this point. I do think it’s one of the best boss battles in recent years, if not the best one in over 5 years. Edited June 28, 2020 by Crzy Minus
Phantochi
The End - Metal Gear Solid 3. Fought over 3 maps and one of the most unique boss battles. A boss battle that is quiet (no pun intended) 95% of the time, but knowing he might have you in his sights and "snaaaaake BANG!" Tracking his footprints, using thermal goggles and directional microphone to try to find him. 10/10 Kojima is really a madman
Kristen Danielle 2
I personally feel that there are good boss designs and good boss battles and that they're not always one and the same. For example, as far as boss designs go, I've always been a fan of the Tyrant's look in Resident Evil 0 and the Resident Evil remake (for Gamecube and PS4). The battle method is kind of shoddy, though. It's not intense enough. It's basically about avoiding his leaps and swipes and shooting him until he goes down. For boss battles, I like the ones that require you to use strategy rather than just having you whale on them. One of the bosses I enjoyed was the Iron Imprisoner I, II, III, and IV at the Mirage Arena in Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep. He starts out with his lower half locked tight within a gibbet and his arms chained to his upper body and as he changes forms, he slowly releases himself from his chains, enabling new moves each time you face him. Iron Imprisoner II has freed his arms, Iron Imprisoner III has managed to free his legs, and Iron Imprisoner IV has released himself from the very last of his remaining shackles, enabling his full move set. Your strategies must change with him or you are dead. Edited June 28, 2020 by Kristen Danielle
