Popular Post FarSideOfSaturn
#43 - Outer Wilds - All Done Groundhog Day, but in space. This entire experience was fascinating, small in scope but so much to discover, no direction but your own curiosity and possibly more fun to think about than it is to play. It's kind of hard to talk about Outer Wilds without ruining it but the basic premise is straightforward. You're an alien, you have a spaceship, you have an uncharted solar system, your job is to explore it and for some reason...the entire universe operates on a 22 minute time loop. Maybe you can find out why... Space exploration is hard, to survive within your time loop, you'll need to master control of your ship, manage your air and fuel and learn how to orbit for one particular trophy. Some prior knowledge of quantum fluctuations might also come in useful. Unlike say, No Man's Sky, each planet to explore has been built by hand, each with their own breathtaking environments, curiosities, puzzles and dangers. Venture a little further out into the solar system and you might find a little more than just planets. At it's heart, Outer Wilds is a game about exploration, experimentation and knowledge. I guess that could've been this entire post. For trophy hunters, it's mostly an easy enough ride, though there's a couple of challenges that may take a decent amount of attempts. They possibly have the potential to frustrate but look at each failure as something to learn from, similar to how you'd fight a boss in Dark Souls. Keep experimenting and improving and you'll get it eventually! Like I said it's a difficult game to talk about without ruining everything, so I'll end it here! Popular Post Darghel
#97 Agito Achieved (Final Fantasy Type-0 HD) Difficulty: The trophies are easy...but the game is not. Time to Complete: About 30 hours Recommended: Well yes but actually no Total Score: 2/10 My expectations were low but holy fuck, this game completely destroyed it so badly it sunk deeper down. I haven't played anything so legitimately unfun for such a long time (last one I recall was FF13, but even that game had something!) and I have almost given up on the game itself...I mean they really had to work out of their way to make this game unfun, because you just can't make an fast paced action jrpg unfun on purpose! There's so much wrong with this game I would take forever, but let me say this: the game had a lot of potential and I could see it, the story was pretty grim and bloody but it had something going for it, but it never achieved anything and resulted in forcing me to play a second time in order to do understand it. Infact this game takes the same idea that "homework is fun!" and a lot of the story bits or details are tied to the datalog - ehm crystarium, and you're supposed to read that to know more....yeah isn't that epic?! But seriously, I can't even describe why this is so unfun, so ill mention just the ones i can remember vividly: -14 characters but you cannot change them, equip gear, upgrade their skills, LITERALLY ANYTHING outside of save points. If you're stuck with a group, you're stuck with them until you use a save point. FUN! -14 characters but you cannot train them all at once: only the 3 in battle will gain experience while the rest won't gain jack. Even secret training is annoying because it works for ONLY ONE! - And yes, you need all of them leveled up! -The stupid time limit for each day that really has no purpose but to limit your gameplay, especially later when you get more missions. -You can't resurrect anyone if they die and enemies have the tendency of 1 shotting you due to a system called Killstrike (basically 1 shotting you if you turn red, which works also for them). -Cannot escape battles unless your main team dies, which brings the problem above mentioned. -Boss fights are....just....just no, I cannot describe them how bad they were: constant 1 shotting me, almost never on melee reach and just....just no, NO! -Camera is so bad it legitimately strained my eyes a few times due to how quick and badly positioned it is: I guess on PSP it made sense but this is ps4! -Controls are crippled beyond belief, with dodge and defensive spells sharing the same button, and L2 and R2 being switching targets...again on psp i could understand but this is ps4, there's an analogic stick that works for that, and it DOES work! so why not free those 2 buttons for a dodge-specific button or something? -Large world map to explore, but no fast travel until much later, and chocobos have an unknown timer...and some enemies on the map will one-shot you. Only thing that I could say had something was the story: the setting is truly the thing that got me curious, with l'Cie (AAAARGH!) coming back but for some reason doing stuff I couldn't in 13, like having red eyes or the ability to fly or to live forever (hey did someone actually made a good superhuman?). Jokes aside, the setting was probably the only thing that got me curious, and the idea that memories of someone are erased when they died suddenly made me care more for someone when they died...until I realized that I had no freaking idea who everyone was! Yeah, the game introduces you to Class Zero right away with no explanation: who is Ace? Who is Queen? Who is King? No idea but there's the criterium for that! Other scenes often get cut or just got to points I never understood the connection, assuming something happened before...but the game didn't bother to show! There's even a secret about them but the game never bothered to say it, and I assume it will be on the second playthrough...but thankfully you don't need to do more than one for the platinum, unless you purposedly miss something and, thankfully, you can do everything in one shot: the game is very easy on that and overall it was doable, even though I had to use the secret training to make the game a bit faster because grinding is a chore (again, 14 characters, with only 3 gaining experience at once, while the rest won't). It saving grace was the easy platinum really: if it was more complicated and harder I would've probably given up way before. Still, the game felt so careless about everything, with not enough emphasis on what matters (cool, it's a war setting, but I still don't know anyone!) that when I heard that replaying will unlock more backstory and such I just passed. After all, if the game itself doesn't care to tell me their story, why should I? Edited March 12, 2021 by Darghel

Popular Post eigen-space
Platinum #130 - Ghost Parade The Prophesized Protector, 33.10% Rarity Difficulty - 5/10, Time Spent - ~10 Hours , Enjoyment 8/10 Ghost Parade follows a young girl named Suri as she cuts through a forest on her way home from school. She gets lost, has encounters with spirits who join her party, and eventually becomes a crusader for environmental justice. The game style is a hack-and-slash platformer with some very slight metroidvania gimmicks thrown in. The platforming is quite challenging at times in my opinion, though I don't play so many platforming games so I'm not the best judge of this. I died quite a bit during the harder sections and even during some of the easier sections when learning the limits of the jumps/slides/etc. The game tends to be forgiving with having numerous save points, except during some of the most difficult parts (which is part of why they're so difficult). However, being able to accomplish some of the more challenging sections felt quite rewarding. The art and music in this game is awesome. The characters are very well-designed and the backgrounds are beautiful. There are also cutscenes which boast a different kind of art style that looks very nice. The music works really well with the game and is even nice to listen to when not playing (I listened to it while working and will probably add the nearly 60-song soundtrack to one of my Spotify playlists). One of my complaints with the game is that you don't have to actually finish it to get all the trophies. You end up being able to pop the platinum at the second-to-last boss fight. I don't like when games do this. Granted, the ending was pretty predictable and didn't have a super awesome scene or anything, but still. As this game doesn't have a trophy guide written, I left some notes in the forum about the trophies. Basically, they're mostly story-related with a couple trophies for playing mini-games. Nothing too difficult. I'd recommend playing this game for sure. And check out the physical version on Amazon instead of the PlayStation store... it's much cheaper on Amazon unless there's a PS Store sale.

Popular Post Mariner1534
#60: Trials of Mana So... I have mixed feelings about this one. I picked it up due to nostalgia: when I was a kid, I played a fan-translation of the original SNES game (then only known by its Japanese name, Seiken Densetsu 3) on an emulator and fell in love with it. I thought it was such a cool, unique action-RPG with that classic Squaresoft charm, and I though the whole "choose your protaganist" thing was kind of mind-blowing. So, for the first few hours of playing the remake, I fell in love all over again, since it was very faithful to the original while including a bunch of QoL improvements on top of that. And then, about halfway through my original playthrough, the nostalgia started wearing off, and... I was just getting kind of bored with it. Which is especially bad considering my first run only took 20-ish hours. Combat was pretty fun for a while, but it's really kind of bland and same-y, no matter which character/party you use. It's either just basic hack-and-slashing or using items/spells by picking them from a menu and standing there while they go off. There's also the classic RPG "let's recycle the same 10 enemies with stronger palette swaps" thing going on, too. It all just got old after a while. It's also way too easy on hard mode - you unlock harder difficulties on new game +, but honestly I was tired of the whole game by then and just rushed through NG+ without really trying them out. The whole "choose your team from 6 heroes" thing isn't as cool as I remember, either: the very beginning, the final boss, and the second-to-last dungeon depend on your choices, but overall the game's like 90% identical no matter who you choose. Also, the English voice acting is terrible, and this is coming from someone with very low standards when it comes to dubs. So, yeah, I was pretty disappointed with this game, although it was still fun for a while and maybe I'm being kind of harsh for personal reasons. Anyway, the plat's easy-peasy, that 40% completion rate doesn't lie. You do need to beat the game three times, but you'll get most of the trophies naturally on the way. Just need to watch out for the cactus sightings (which carry over progress between runs), buying a specific expensive item (which you can probably afford hundreds of in NG+) and making sure all 6 characters are in your party at least once (while also making sure that you'll fight a different final boss on each run). One boss needs to be defeated on hard mode (which, as I said earlier, isn't actually hard), but nothing else is difficulty-specific. Three playthroughs sounds exhausting, but it's super easy to blast though NG+ really fast: items, equipment, money, and levels from characters you've already used carry over, and you get an equippable ability that triples exp gain. Not to mention the skippable cutscenes... My first playthrough took about 20 hours, the second took 10, and the third only took 6. Difficulty: 3/10 Enjoyment: 8/10 at first, 4/10 by the time it was over Plat Time: 35-40 hours
Popular Post Ode2Destruxion
Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales (PS5) #37 Be Yourself I only played Miles Morales as I had to buy the Ultimate Edition of the release to get Spider-Man: Remastered - which was what I was really after. It would be silly not to play MM having bought it though! I did enjoy the game but I can't help comparing it to SM after playing it so shortly after - which is unfair as I should probably see it as a standalone game. However, it's only natural to compare the two. I thought this was a much weaker showing. The fighting was once again fun but the things that they changed just didn't work as well. There were less gadgets and the ones they added were quite rubbish as I didn't use them often enough to warrant their inclusion. They also dropped a special power move in favour of various "Venom" powers and Invisibility. The invisibility length wasn't very good and I only really needed to use it during the last few chapters on Ultimate mode to help out a little. Venom powers all too often didn't seem to register properly or in time which made it counterproductive. I'd find myself dodging enemy attacks to gain Venom - then when I had enough of it unleashing a Venom attack and being hit in the process of it activating. Pretty useless that. The storyline was a positive, I found myself going from disinterested in the story to being quite engrossed by the end. They did a good job of bringing Miles from a jittery teen unsure of his powers to being at the forefront of his community as a true local hero - separate to Peter Parker's SM. The graphics were once again excellent as you'd expect and the chapters flowed well. Some of the collectibles were a bit boring but the side quests were fun and made with some depth - progressing the story of the local Spiderman. 7/10

Popular Post Viper
#222 Immortals: Fenyx Rising The End This was a fun little Breath of the Wild clone. This was a game I paid very little attention to back when it was still called "Gods and Monsters". Just looked like a less graphically impressive version of Assassin's Creed: Odyssey. But then it releases and everyone is calling it a sleeper hit...so I figured I give it a whirl. It is very much the closest thing you're going to get to Breath of the Wild on PlayStation. The art style is very similar (though I might argue it actually looks better!), and you have a stamina bar that dictates everything you do. However, the real draw of the game is it's very comical take on Greek Mythology. I mean the game is down right hilarious at times...Zeus was an absolute riot. It's very Saturday Morning Cartoon slapstick, but in the best way. You've never really seen these Gods portrayed quite like this before. The game is extremely puzzle heavy, which is a pro and a con at the same time. Because even for collecting a simple chest you have to kill a group of enemies, then solve what can sometimes be a really long puzzle, all for not much of anything, so it feels arbitrary at times. After 40 or so hours I was kind of over it....however a lot of the puzzles were actually kind of fun to do. Combat is a little sloppy though. It leans very heavily on you timing your dodging (and parrying to a lesser extent). There were way too many moments where I was getting hit and losing my combo because Fenxy would get hit instead of dodging when I know good and well I hit at the right time. But it does open up more as you upgrade your Godly Powers and have more ways of stringing that combo together. Overall, it was a fun game and certainly worth playing. I wouldn't exactly lump it in with the highlights of Current or Last Generation, as I've seen some people giving it a little too high of a score. But I think it's another Ubisoft game that has laid a nice foundation for a franchise. It was almost experimental on their part as it breaks away from their usual formula a little bit (not completely) to give us something a bit different. Would play a sequel.

Not gonna lie I'm really bad at fighting games now and when I come up against online players in games were you have to rely on strings of combos I just can't do that anymore, my hands are not fast enough so the easy combo system kind of helped me here.

Popular Post Viscera1900
#289 - Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age Living Legend "Awarded for earning all available trophies." Enjoyment: 10/10 Difficulty: 3/10 Completion time: 2 weeks, 2 days / 97 hours What a game... This one became an instant favorite of mine within 2 hours of playing this game. It's one of the best and most engaging JRPG game I've played in recent years. Still loving these turn based battle system in JRPG games. The story is easy to understand and not overly complicated, but at the same time it's very engaging thanks to the very colorful cast of characters. I've always loved Dragon Ball series and it was amazing to see Akira Toriyama's work on these characters' designs. The game is visually gorgeous and very colorful. The voice acting was very well done; don't have much complains there. The soundtrack was ok; there are some memorable ones, but nothing mind blowing in my opinion. According to my save file; completing this game took me 97 hours, but there were atleast 2 hours of idle time. Could've been faster if I didn't waste my time on talking to every NPCs in this game. As you can see it's very time consuming Platinum trophy to achieve, being a RPG game and all, but it's not overly difficult. I definitely recommend this game to those people who love JRPG games. Fun fact: Originally I haven't given much thought to the Dragon Quest series. It's all thanks to Yakuza: Like a Dragon that I even played & completed this game, because the main protagonist of Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a huge Dragon Quest fan and he won't shut up about it through the game.... and that gave me a motivation to try Dragon Quest XI Edited March 13, 2021 by Viscera1900
