Popular Post madbuk
#264 - Assassin's Creed Origins Assassin's Creed is my favourite franchise. I have loved all of the games I've played, and I've played them all besides PSP/DS spin-offs and AC1 (and I experienced AC1 and Bloodlines via the novel instead). With that said... this is one of the most vile games I have ever played, and the most disappointed I have ever been in a game since I began gaming, I'm pretty sure. Nothing about this trash heap is good. It's bug ridden, the story is disjointed and spread all over the place and as a result is very undeveloped and poorly written, this may just be the worst protagonist in the AC franchise, he has no interesting qualities whatsoever. The setting is incredibly bland, there's miles of empty desert that's a chore to run/ride through, and the stealth is the worst of the franchise and may as well have not even been a mechanic. For a start, stealth kills very often don't actually kill - simply lightly damage the guard you try to stealth kill, and then they alert the entire compound and trigger a huge, drawn out fight. They also took out way too many options. Social stealth is gone, you can no longer whistle to attract guards, you can't blend into crowds, you can't throw down money to cause a distraction, all of the stealth mechanics have been stripped away from you in this game. Eagle vision has been nerfed, which doesn't really make sense given the lore. You would think Bayek would have the strongest eagle vision yet, since he is the closest to the Isu generation than anyone else we've played as. Instead, Bayek has an eagle which he sends off into the sky to scout for him. How does Bayek understand what his eagle sees? How does he know where guards are? Eagles can't speak. The new modern day protagonist is perhaps the blandest version of Lara Croft we've ever seen, which is impressive considering how uninteresting the new Tomb Raider version of Lara is. The game added in a new level system, which level gates you from the main quest so you're forced into doing their shitty, poorly written side content that is a chore to sit through. Every side quest feels identical and none of it is interesting. Then there are the locations, which are also just busywork and a chore. I died a little inside every time I saw a fort in the distance. The combat is drawn out, tedious, and boring. The climbing is the worst in the franchise - there's no effort required whatsoever. You can climb literally any surface you see. It's really dumb and a massive step down from what we had before, it may as well not even have been there. The mounts in this game are horrendous, they control horribly, but you're pretty much forced to using them if you want to get anywhere quick because they decided it'd be a smart idea to take away the run button in this game. Bayek moves so fucking slow. The world is far larger than it had any reason to be, most of it was just empty land that made getting from a to b take much longer than necessary. Most of it isn't even used in the main quests at all, I had so many regions undiscovered when I finally pushed through and got to the end of the game. The tombs were the worst in the franchise, they were just long boring hallways with maybe a physics puzzle anyone can solve without any real thought. Even Tomb Raider 2013 had better tombs than this shit. Some of the new mechanics are dumb and shouldn't even be possible, like Bayek controlling an arrow after he fires it. What the fuck? How does he do that? This isn't an arcade game where things don't have to make sense, this is Assassin's Creed. It explains away the gamey elements behind the Animus in previous games, but from what we know, the Animus shouldn't function in a way that allows this. Speaking of which, they removed DNA sequences in this game, which results in you being able to tackle the missions in basically any order you wish (provided you've passed their arbitrary level gate.) Not only does this contradict existing canon - why can Layla's Animus do this when no others can? - it also means the story has to be written in such a way that the quests can't reference each other because they don't know which order you're going to do them in. This causes the story to feel disjointed and there's nothing linking the quests together besides the occasional chat with Aya, your cardboard cutout girlfriend. I really do think this is the most disappointing game I have ever played. Tomb Raider 2013 may have been a disappointment as a Tomb Raider game, but at least it was a good game despite that. This is not a good Assassin's Creed game, nor is it a good game in any kind of respect in general. What Ubisoft were thinking when they decided to make this is beyond me, but I hate that they did this to my favourite franchise and every session I played of this, I came away feeling empty and heartbroken. This game is an atrocity on a level I have rarely seen. And it seems like Odyssey is going to be even worse, somehow. Dialogue choices? In an Asassin's Creed game? That goes against the very fiber and DNA of the franchise, what the fuck? And they're bringing back ship combat, the worst part of AC IV and Rogue. Yay? No. It's disgusting how far this franchise has fallen with just two games... but it's Assassin's Creed. I have to give Odyssey a chance. It doesn't look good at all, but I can't let this monstrosity ruin the whole brand for me alone. It just doesn't inspire any hope for the future. To top all this off, I still have more of this shit to do because there's DLC. Yay.... tl;dr I'm a heartbroken man who needs to decide what his new favourite franchise is. Popular Post Honor_Hand
It's been a LONG time since I posted here. These are my 3 most recent Platinums *copy-pastes his most recent journal entry into the thread* Platinum #84 - Ratchet and Clank (PS3) Rarity: 27.63% This was my first experience with the Ratchet and Clank universe and it was a very pleasant one. Despite the game being considerably old, I didn't feel as it had aged poorly or anything like that. In fact, it plays as a pretty cool action-platformer even today. The game plays in a linear fashion while visiting many planets in a quest to stop an evil kind-of-corporate looking alien for constructing a new planet by wreaking havoc and stealing the resources from other planets. There are many planets to visit and each of them has their own distinct personality to make them stand apart from each other. On the gameplay front, the game is just simple and fun. You just run and gun enemies with a variety of weapons and gadgets you collect while traveling around. Most weapons are pretty interesting and fun to use. If there is a word I could use to describe the game it would be "colorful". Everything from the characters and the weapons, to the planets, all of them feel full of color. The trophies were pretty easy except for one that required to amass 1 million bolts over the course of the game. Needless to say that it would have required multiple playthroughs destroying each and every box and enemy to reach that amount if it wasn't for a certain comment I saw online of someone recommending to farm the bolts on the underpass of Kerwan with a Turbo controller and having Ratchet throw his wrench continually at the traffic there. Other than that, the trophies were from your usual collect everything, beat the game and do a number of miscellaneous stuff on each planet. Pretty easy and straightforward for the most part. All in all, I thought this was a great entry point for the series Platinum #85 - MotorStorm Apocalypse (PS3) Rarity: 5.94% I started playing this one due to the server closure date being announced for the last week of July. I had previously played the first MotorStorm and its sequel, Pacific Rift, at a friend's house a long time ago so I knew well in advance what I was getting into. What amazed the most in this game was the level of destruction the developers were able to apply on the tracks for the time. Granted, not all tracks have these dangers but the ones that do are plenty and even then, you sometimes get surprised on certain laps when say, a boat gets thrown in your face when you were least expecting it. These dangers sometimes play against the driving experience on certain tracks though, as it makes difficult for one to judge a proper route without having some initial trial and error. I also enjoyed the variety of vehicles types available in the game and how differently they drove from each other. For example, I personally preferred anything that was 4-wheeled and with a good amount of mass if possible. The Racing Truck, the Mud plugger, and the Super Car were by far my favorite vehicles on each race. Conversely, all bikes sucked for me. I am sure most online players would say otherwise but I hate how they jump all over the place on the roughest of tracks as it makes difficult to keep a good racing line. The graphics in this game were also outstanding and even with 16 racers on screen and buildings falling all over the place, the game rarely ever slowed down. I am aware most people around seem to have hated the comic book presentation for the story (yes, there is a story in this racing game <.<) but I actually enjoyed it. Found the scenes amusing for the most part (Any questions? xD). The trophies have a good variety, from clearing the story, to clearing a set number of trials, to using some of the mechanics available while racing. The online probably took me way more than it should since I self-boosted the game alone with a second controller on a private match for the most part. I really didn't want to bother other people and set a session for it if all the trophies (minus 1) could be obtained alone. The one that needed other people, I was able to do it on a public match in less than 1 hour with some randoms I found on a certain day. One final thing, collecting 150 cards across the campaign races was...excruciatingly boring. Don't do collectibles in racing games, please. It hurts! Fun game, I might jump into the original MotorStorm (even though it doesn't have trophies) and Pacific Rift (even though the online servers already went kaput) just for fun Platinum #86 - Ratchet and Clank 2 (PS3) Rarity: 34.72% Finally, after having enjoyed the first Ratchet and Clank game so much, I was very eager to try the second one. Fortunately enough, It didn't disappoint as it improves over its predecessor in all the areas that matter. That means lots more of weapons and gadgets to play around with. And this time they can be modded and they even rank up by using them regularly. My most common weapons included the Lancer, Synthenoid, Lava Gun, Miniturret Glove, Plasma Coil and Shield Charger. They are all cool in their own way though as I sometimes found myself switching back to the Pulse Rifle, the Hoverbomb Gun and even the Sheepinator to mix things up. Honestly, there is a lot of stuff to try. The game is structured similarly to its predecessor, you travel to a bunch of planets (each of which has like 2 different routes you can follow) in order to complete a set of objectives and move forward. The colorful characters remain and I actually laughed trying to figure out what Mr. Fizzwidget was trying to say to say on some of the cutscenes. As with the previous game, something that I really enjoy from this series is (kind of a weird fetish, I know o.o) having lots and lots of bolts raining on you after destroying many enemies and destructibles at once. Really, I get this funny satisfaction feeling on the inside when I see all those bolts being magnetized to me. The graphics in this game mostly stayed the same but what they improved was on the variety of the locales you get to visit on the different planets, which was already a strong point on the first game. There is always something cool to see in your space travels. Something new that was added here was space combat which feels kinda underwhelming to be honest. I mean, it looks visually great and is cool you get to outfit your ship with many weapons and modifications but the combat itself feels too simple for my liking. Another minor complain is that the game sometimes experiences slowdowns when there is a lot going on screen, which on itself is a weird occurrence but it can happen if you like to amass enemies to blow them all at once for those bolts ha ha ha Fantastic game, looking forward to ending this collection to then jump into the HD series on the PS3.
Popular Post KawaiiSlowpoke
SO I recently decided to get back in to console gaming and to complete games I play now blah blah blah since I had the habit of buying a game - playing it fro a little bit and putting it down. With that being said, I got my FIRST platinum today. It was a fun and easy game to platinum but it's still my first and I'm proud of myself lmao Platinum No. 1 - Tearaway (PS VITA) Perfectionist 22.8% rarity lol I'm not too sure what game I'll move on to next (to platinum). I beat the main story of Atelier Ayesha but I don't wanna plat that right now because I want to move on to some other games since I just got my vita and I'm really loving it! I'm probably going to play through Persona 4 Golden and maybe try and plat that after I start NG+. WE SHALL SEE THOUGH. Wish my luck in my endeavors lmao

Popular Post RedRodriguez87
Platinum OK, now here's one I NEVER platted before, but did play along time ago when it came out. And, eh, it was ok. The best part of this game is easily the spectacle of all the violence. The way Wolverine drills, spins, and launches like a crazed animal from one enemy to the next is a blast, and you've got a move for almost every situation; enemies on the ground, enemies attacking, enemies jumping at you, shooting at you, etc. You know, once upon a time I heard the Itagaki said about Ninja Gaiden 2 was that he wanted the huge amounts of blood splattering to be almost artistic. To that I say that while that was plenty violent, in terms of almost beauty, this game takes the cake. The chunky red trail that follows your every claw swing is almost hypnotic. If you are looking for nothing but a violent hacky-slashy good time, this game on easy mode is one of the best trips you'll ever have. If you are a 10%-er though, I wouldn't recommend it. It's one of those games that requires you to play it on hard, which means all the flaws that could otherwise be ignored come bubbling to the surface. Add in the fact that said trophy requires you to do it from scratch, with no upgrades carrying over makes it even worse. Many of these levels go on WAY to long; so many sections I felt could have been cut out completely from what they add to the game-play AND overall narrative. The combat gets VERY aggravating and plodding on the hardest difficulty; you die way too easy, and enemies are way too durable. Heck, even the weakest ones that you could cleave through in one to two hits now require an inordinate amount of time to kill, all the while others are going through your HP like butter because this game LOVES to throw swarms at you. Though, if you plan still on going for this plat, just keep in mind that that thoughtful planning and playing can help you avoid the majority of unneeded battles, and the checkpoints are fair at least.

All you do is read/skip walls of text, choose different options and watch the same story play out over and over and over and over again. Then, to add insult to injury, you have to play the mini-game repeatedly to get the platinum trophy. I swear, I spent hours grinding for enough points to purchase the unlockable bonus stuff. I got this game free with PS+ some time ago, so I feel somewhat better that I didn't pay for this garbage. Unless you like smashing the button repeatedly and losing your brain cells playing a crappy mini-game for hours, I recommend you avoid this one.

Kishnabe
Platinum #209: Waking Violet (PS4/Vita) Cheap 2D Block Puzzle game. Should take around 2-5 hours to get the Platinum. It requires a hint less playthough (You can backup save, use a hint, and then redownload backed up save). Or use a hint after you got 100%. The only annoyance I had was when I got stuck on a part of block, because a small segment of my body is touching it. You can't push through. You have to be accurate, sometimes I avoid using analog stick. Use direction pad instead. Difficulty: 4 (most puzzles are easy, 2-3 puzzles can be annoying). "Third time is a Charm" was the one puzzle that got me stuck for a long while. Popular Post OobiGod
Platinum #4 Ratchet & Clank Gadget Master Obtain All Ratchet & Clank Trophies How the fuck did I not play this game sooner. It has tons of appealing things to me. Like being a 3d platformer, having fun mechanics, being a big series with well made dialogue and they're all (well almost all) on ps3. This was a relatively easy platinum. I bought the collection on amazon and I've been playing a lot of 2 recently. It's a way better executed version of the R&C concept. That one million bolts trophy was a bitch tho. I had to do it in 2 playthroughs (I messed up the first time). Thankfully new game + was very fast for getting into Rilgar. Next platinum trophy will most likely be ratchet and clank 2. I've also been doing some extra work on infamous 1 (fuck those blast shards) and may go and do the evil playthrough of it sometime soon-ish. Great game here tho. If you own a ps3 and somehow have never played this series, try it out, it's fun if you're into the genre. Also obligatory "I didn't do the platinums I said I was going to do next whoopsie!"
