I'm really disappointed in those "gamers".

Trophies are fun to collect, but they're just shiny 1s and 0s that make a fun noise when they unlock. A My Name is Mayo 2 plat has the same "value" as a Super Meat Boy plat: none. If that bothers you, I urge you to step back and take a break.

I think others who are bothered by it aren’t concerned about the physical or virtual value. It’s the internal value. They believe that platinum trophies are a hard-fought reward designed only for the best of the best. An ego inflation, essentially, or a source of euphoria after doing something few are able to do.

Well for me and a certain part of the community there is some sort of code. Platinums used to have a higher value and some people are not okay with Sonys quality control in that regards. People who see trophy hunting as a hobby just changed over time. And on a broader scale not for the better imo.

Cause it's a community hobby where people compare themselves with others, write guide for others, boost with others etc. That's also the reason many have a trophy card in their signature.

As others have pointed out, the virtual nature of trophies makes them technically all meaningless at the end of the day when it comes to the grand scheme of things. So I can understand the logic of people who don’t give a shit about the integrity of this hobby and this community. But on the other hand, I believe this is an oversimplification of things.

 

There is some small meaning in trophies and in the value of a platinum. Or at least there used to be when trophies were introduced to PlayStation. If there wasn’t, if there was no competitive angle to the hunt, no basic valuation for gaming achievements, NONE of us would be here on a site like this, following our own progress, looking at other player’s profiles, comparing ourselves to our friends and our peers etc. Also, If there wasn’t some kind of intrinsic value in a platinum trophy, you wouldn’t have all these players trying to get as many platinums as they can as fast as they can, and all these ezpz games that cater to that crowd.

 

For this reason I have to agree with OP 100%. The fact of the matter is that we are living in a sad era of entitlement where instant gratification and corner cutting have become the norm, where generations coming up in the tech world expect to have everything at their fingertips immediately without putting in the work to get there. Although I would kill to see it, I have very little hope of Sony ever fixing the problem with the trophy system. As long as trophy whores exist who are willing to spend money to rack up their platinum count incredibly fast so they can impress their PSN friends, this trend will never change.

 

If I wasn’t such a stubborn old head, I would probably just succumb to the philosophy of “if you can’t beat them, join them” and start raking in my 300 plats per year like everyone else. But as of now, I still care more about the actual journey, personal challenges, and growth as a gamer that comes with hunting and earning trophies legitimately than I do about amassing the actual trophies themselves. So I can live with a smaller platinum count than a lot of people in this community, and be proud of the fact my trophy cabinet actually means something special to me.

It's still better than Steam.. where you can download an app to  unlock every single achievement in 2 seconds on any game of your choice.

If we get duds here and there on PSN I say simply ignore them.

 

I played the first Mayo just out of curiosity. Yes it was an easy plat, but overall I found it to be quite entertaining and funny at times.

My Name is Mayo 2 has 1 stack, it's actually self aware, cost 99 cents, and has some great humor like the first game.

 

This 1 stack of mayo is absolutely nothing compared to the other things like jack n jill which has 6 Platinums that would take like an hour to get them all along with being a trophy hunter cash grab. If Mayo devs really wanted they could have charged $5+, added stacks and made bank.

 

Just have some fun with this and stop whining. There's a lot more problems than a jar of mayo.

I dont even know why mayo is still the low bar.  That adventure on the prarie game is 100x worse.  I regret not researching that one though ill admit i did know it was an easy one
