Popular Post eigen-space
Platinum #74 - Grim Fandango Remastered Number Nine Ticket, 21.99% Rarity Difficulty - 3/10 , Time Spent - ~20 Hours , Enjoyment 7/10 Grim Fandango Remastered is a point-and-click style LucasArts game which follows around Manuel "Manny" Calavera, a sales agent in the Department of Death (DoD) whose job is to sell travel packages to newly departed skeletal souls for them to make their way to the ninth underworld. He stumbles upon a nefarious plot to take away the earnings of deserving souls, which sends him on a journey to right these wrongs. Maybe it's because I've watched a little too much Ugly Betty, but I immediately recognized Manny's voice actor-- Tony Plana. I knew when I heard his voice that I would at least enjoy that aspect of the game, if nothing else. And, let me tell you, the voice acting in this game is excellent (though I think some people may find it annoying-- but all the voices fit the characters and the game's style so well). The music and sound effects are also pretty great. The other thing about this game that's awesome throughout is the dialogue; nearly ever line in this game is a perfect one-liner, and it makes you want to play with all the surroundings as well as exhaust dialogue options with everyone (and is probably why the majority of the trophies are for getting various characters to say certain lines of dialogue AND named after those spoken lines). Honestly, the dialogue was so well-written that most of the game's flaws can be overlooked. One of those flaws is the ebb and flow of the game. It seems like the "years" in the game get subsequently shorter and shorter, while leaving the final year to seem super rushed. Maybe I was just getting used to the bullshit "tank controls" (which you need to use for the entire game for just one trophy and are a pain in the ass), but the first chapter seemed to take at least 3x as long as the final chapter... and the final chapter just seems extremely rushed; there's hardly even any extra characters around to talk with, few items to interact with... it just seemed... subpar in comparison to the first two years. Additionally, Spoiler I was quite displeased that it was never revealed why Manny was stuck in the Eighth Underworld. I though for sure that he was a victim of the DoD's schemes as even he didn't know what crimes he committed to be stuck there, but then they never go into why he's there.... Another flaw is that the puzzles also seemed to get easier as they went along. With the first two years, there was so much that you had to interact with in order to get the puzzles right... whereas the last two years, there's not much guesswork to do. I wouldn't say any of the puzzles require a guide as they're easy enough to figure out if you interact with everything (I didn't use a guide except for the one here, but that only points out when the trophies will show up, not the solutions to the puzzles)... but the latter ones give you much fewer options to try out. A bit disappointing for a LucasArts game as other titles by them require a bit more thinking/trying things out. Still a good game, one that I think most people would enjoy unless they don't appreciate the type of humor it uses (and just watch the intro and first minute or two of gameplay on YouTube or something... you'll know almost immediately if you'll like the humor). Also, I now know where @Kevvik's avatar comes from, which is a bonus ? Edited July 17, 2019 by eigen-space

Popular Post NullSpace84
#36: The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II Falcom. Can do. No wrong. Bless. As I declared after I Platinum'd Trails of Cold Steel I, no chance I wait until Platinum entry #48 to conquer the sequel. The long-awaited 'cept for us PS4 players followup to the superb Trails of Cold Steel takes to the air (in the Sky~?) to deliver a fittingly frenzied second half of the experimental schoolyear for the sappiest buncha softies this side of the digital medium, Thors Military Academy's cozy Class VII. Seriously, I just sank into this group of characters across the first entry, and their gradual reunion and mutual personal objectives moved me to more than a couple bravos and teardrops. They exhibit oddities and odd flaws, as would any crop of JRPG protags, but they grew so daggone likable to me that I could scarce pry myself away from their exploits when leisure hours trickled to me. Rean's speeches rub off on 'em! Kudos to the assortment of ardent adults, also: hey, as an eroding age-appropriate fella, I like my VG adults competent and robust! The fortified turn-based mechanics continued to engross me as modern-day Materia. The cheeky game thus compensated for the party's surplus of highly capable maneuvers by smashing them in the face! - at least, on Normal - with tricky plotline obstacles and hard-hitting combat encounters. More so than in ToCS I, this served to underscore the peril Erebonia - even much of Zemuria - withstood, although IMO, it veered at times too sharply into "S-Break spam or die tryin', yo." Praise Aidios for the pack-in Zeram DLC bonanza... I liked several of the new musical tracks; that said, more than a couple regions recycled fairly unimpressive background tunes, robbing a few locales of their poignancy, whether revisited or newly traversed. Turns out, Falcom can do /little/ wrong, eh. Not none. *nod* The Platinum trophy itself stood nearly identical to ToCS I's. I felled it more rapidly in spite of II's broadened horizon since quick hops to refill CP formidably mitigated an array of imposing foe battles. Eschew those if ya aspire to play through as the honchos intended...or, heck, perhaps they sought for us to wield the power? Well, I certainly did, ahaha. I dooooo posit the concluding 5-6 hours could've benefited from streamlined and perhaps even trimmed structure. Relievingly, the subsequent NG+ material hints at the greater Zemurian scope. From what I glean, word on the street, Cold Steel III + IV integrate darn near the whole span of introduced continentals thus far. Eager for that. Definitely eager for a Kiseki cornucopia. All in all, 90 hours of a positively wonderful product graced my life. Trails of Cold Steel III nears; Ys IX tantalizes in development; Falcom inclines to port more back catalog - can I give a fist-pump? *fist pumps* Bring it ON! See Estelle for details.

Popular Post Briste
Platinum #86 Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep I finished up BBS yesterday and I really enjoyed this entry as well. I still think that KH2 was the better game to play, but the story in this one was the best they have put out so far. At first I thought it was going to be annoying to playthrough the same game three times with different characters, however they did it well. I played in the recommended order of Terra ~> Ventus ~> Aqua. When playing as Terra, you could see why he would feel the way he did toward Aqua by the end and I had a hard time understanding Aqua's perspective. Getting to play as Aqua, you got to see how she developed her impression of what was happening to Terra and that it was more from concern than lack of trust. Playing through the story three times from different perspectives made the story much more compelling and I was more attached to these characters than I have been to any of the others so far. It was also nice to see how the wheels of the whole series were set in motion. While playing through the story three times was a treat...having to complete the Reports for all three was quite a bit tedious since there really was nothing new to add after you've done them once. I kind of wish I did Terra's story then completed his Reports before moving onto Ventus, because by the time I finished up the last of Aqua's reports, I was two weeks removed from the story and I'm sure I'm forgetting some details heading into Dream Drop Distance. The other thing I thought that KH2 did better was the battle system. I enjoyed the different Drive Forms much more than the Command Menu. I can't help but feel that SE wants to prove that the battle system from KH: CoM is a good one, so they keep bringing it back in some form. Don't get me wrong, this is much better than CoM and the card system...but cycling through commands and having cool downs is a little annoying in the heat of battle and I found their shortcut menu from the previous games flowed much better during combat. I'm hoping they do more with Terra, Ventus and Aqua in the later games because they have become my favorite characters in the series. That might be blasphemy because of Sora...but I don't find him as relate-able. He is all good and pure and trusting/naive, with no real flaws to speak of whereas I could really empathize with the BBS crew. That's not to say I don't like Sora and Riku, I just haven't been as into the story as much prior to BBS. Overall, the only really difficult trophy was the Mysterious Figure fight as Terra. The MF fight with Terra is 85% luck 15% skill, however it was light years easier as Ventus and Aqua. I spent about two hours with Terra, dying around 100 times or so before I won and then beat MF on my first try with Ventus and second try with Aqua. The invulnerability while rolling/cart wheeling makes the fight almost a joke. The Maestro trophy wasn't as bad as I was anticipating and everything else was really manageable. I did it all on Critical so was able do to this in one playthrough. Similar to KH2, I think critical affected the regular monsters more so than the bosses. I probably did the game in about 85-90 hours. If you haven't played this game yet, it is worth your time. Despite the grind, I really enjoyed this game overall and I'm really hoping they keep up the momentum with these last few games. I started DDD and I'm a little concerned....

Popular Post Spookjekat
Platinum #91 La Noire (ps4) Enjoyment: 5.5/6 out of 10 Difficulty: 1 (with guide) Ive played La Noire back in the days on the xbox360 so i was already familiar with the game/cases. La Noire is for me the border of what i can like gameplay wise. It has more gameplay then telltale games and or walking sims which i dont like (even when i sometimes play that kind of games). I love the setting of La Noire and they really nailed the atmosphere. Because of the game ive watched La Confidential again which is an awsome movie imo_0_ The story and the cases are all well done imo. Its too bad the free roam and the freeroam activities are below average / boring. La Noire also made me realise that i hate every single collectible in every single Rockstar game. The maps are huge and the collectibles can be found at every possible millimeter on the map without a clear indication or hint. I would only recommend this game if its really cheap and if you like the setting/playing as an detective.

Popular Post Copanele
No. 59 : Seasons after Fall Platinum name : Master of seasons Completion time : 6 days, 2 hours, 10 minutes Rarity : 49.20% (uncommon) Difficulty rate : 2/10 Fun rate : 7.5/10 Seasons after fall is one surprising game that I discovered during the july sale. It's a platformer where you control a fox which can change seasons. Changing seasons impacts the surroundings and helps dealing with the world's puzzles. In terms of gameplay the game is really easy. You can't die, the puzzles are pretty obvious, the main issue might be finding out the next place to go. What took me by surprise was the game's presentation. I absolutely loved the graphics and the violin soundtrack fit the mood of the various sections of the game. This game should be played only for its artistic value. Best way to describe it : A pleasant surprise

It took me more hours than I wanted it to, and really the game is just very unfair at points, but it was pretty fun. Would not recommend unless you are a Levi fangirl or something. Popular Post JackisJack_
#108 Five Nights at Freddy's VR: Help Wanted Phew...What a horrifying, stressful, on-your-toes jumpscarey-horror experience that I will never forget. As terrifying (and..rather difficult at times) as it was, playing all of the minigames and individual nights was a blast with friends over, and it made this summer quite a treat at night with the right people. I'd do it all over again, and I'm happy to have been 31st in the world on here, and 24th in the world over at PSNTL. I'd highly recommend it to anyone with a VR, it's up there with some of the best...Just do note: This game is not for the faint hearted. Popular Post Stormverse
Pretty easy Diablo clone. Popular Post RedRodriguez87
Well, with the trophy passes officially being discontinued, I figured, might as well get these PS4 freebies outta the way. #238: Hardcore Gamer This one is a new plat, so I guess I'll talk about it some. It's, I guess, a twin-stick bullet hell game, where you are thrown into hoards of enemies and left on you to survive. It's a 40% rating on the rarity scale, and if that number seems odd, that's because it is. If you aren't already thinking it, it's exactly what you think it is; a game that falls into the easy platinum camp, but does just enough to deter it from being a 90% easy completion. Every guide will tell you the truth, it's a game that you HAVE to put work into before it becomes a gimme. Grind grind grind grind and grind some more, then let your overpoweredness do the rest. Granted, there is one trophy where you have to play legit, but if you leave it for last, then it should be yours. #239: Platinum Pig You know those super early stick figure fight vids with slick animation? Take that, make the main character a pig and the enemies wolves, then put it into player hands. The controls are simple enough, with every attack being mapped to different directions on the left and right stick (buttons are an option too), resulting in normal, midair, and crouching attacks of all kinds. The beauty is getting into a flow of attacking left, then right, then jump then duck, then midair an enemy and catch his weapon before you both hit the ground, then fling in the opposite direction at another coming enemy. It's really a blast once you get into #240: Platinum Weekend *shrug*

Popular Post LucianaRosethorn
Platinum #13 Murdered Soul Suspect! Enjoyment: 7.5 Difficulty: 2 I've always heard terrible things about this game which is why I never picked it up but it was on sale for £2 and so I thought, "why not?" Well it turns out it's actually an amazing game, I really enjoyed the plot, the map was very well done and all the collectables were quite fun to find. The only complaint I have is the "combat". Its extremely pointless, there's only about 10 enemies throughout the whole game and its more just there for the sake of it rather then to actually make more gameplay. It feels like Deadly Premonition combat, was added because it had to be. Would I recommend the game? Absolutely, its very short and you can get it cheap so you don't have much to lose.
Popular Post madbuk
#326 - A Hat in Time On a whim I decided to buy this game on sale yesterday, and I'm glad I did. This was a lot of fun and just reinforces my longing for a return of 3D platformers. I think it's safe to assume Spyro and Crash are back for a while, but despite that there's not really much out there, which saddens me as they're my favourite genre. I was a bit concerned by the first world which didn't really have many platforming challenges at all and was more focused on exploration, but the game really picked up from the second world onwards. Alpine Skyline was my favourite level because each time piece was basically a platforming gauntlet, which is exactly what I wanted from this. It's a shame there are only 4 levels total, I wish it was a longer game. There is a 5th level DLC I think but it's not available on PS4 at all. I hope it gets ported over later (preferably with trophies.) The levels were all pretty unique and had their own themes and gimmicks to keep them interesting, and each had a running narrative connecting the missions together but really the story and character's weren't that great. They were serviceable, which is all they needed to be. If you're a fan of 3D platformers I absolutely recommend checking this out on sale, but it's way too short to justify full price imo. I hope we see a sequel someday... I hope we see any 3D platformers someday...

I struggled a bit on a few missions with tight areas, and some were just confusing to navigate (Ep.12 - Black Eagle, for example). Even then I still think it was a great game, hope Sony doesn't give up on this series. If you haven't played this yet I really recommend it, as it is really cheap these days.
