Happy 10th anniversary, PS3!

I'm going to have to disappoint you lads, but need to be honest! My main gaming platform for about 5 years was an Xbox 360.

Started gaming on PS2 not long after it's release here in the UK. Then went off gaming altogether for a while and bought an Xbox 360 back in 2009 after all my mates bought one.

Stayed on that until late 2013, when I purchased a PS4 and have since (not too long ago, not sure how long exactly) bought a pre-owned PS3 from GAME, (our main gaming outlet) for a grand total of £60.

I love my ps3 and I remember when I got it back in 2012 for my birthday. I was so fascinated by it as I used to only play on the ps2 up until 2012! I've had the ps2 for about 7-8 years and was still awesome. Right now I'm just here thinking how the ps 4 feels like it is so lacking or is missing something that the ps2 and ps3 had.

As of now I'm going to hold off buying a ps4 and stick with my ps3. Happy anniversary ps3 and stay strong!

P.S: that video of ps 3 failures made giggle :P

Well, i started play PS3 on 2007 on my uncles playstation (i remember when he got, that memories :D), but just playing it sometimes, because i was addicted with CS. Then i Left PC gaming, get some money and started my journey on playstation, with getting my own ps3 and since then, never look back and thinking "Ohh, how i miss that ??" :D . Create a new profile and i.m here! Dont know, but on Playstation i feel more "the games" and for me , is way better playing on this than any other platform! Love the community, the exclusives, everything! Maybe in the past i dont feel this because i was a "kid". But anyway, PS3 is amazing and i think it will still live long, a lot of more years! HB Playstation 3!! <3
PS: tomorrow i will get my ps4, so, i hope my ps3 dont feel sad :D because i still have a lot of games to play on it  B)

Happy b-day, PS3! I'll always love you.

Originally, I got the Slim edition of the PS3 back in 2010. However, it broke down on me a couple of months later. I really don't have any fond memories of that time. However, it wasn't until 2013 that I got a PS3 solely to play Metal Gear Solid 4. Hell, If I recall correctly, I was so excited about MGS4 that I got it before I even got the console.

My PS3 history is a bit shaky, for years I was an Xbox 360 gamer, that was my go to system. I did plan on buying a PS3 at launch, I know the price was a bit steep but that wasn't an issue, from what I remember... there wasn't a single launch game that interested me, so I decided to wait until some more games came out. So I waited for a year or two and that's when Metal Gear Solid 4 released, so as big MGS fan I had to finally pick up a PS3. As well as MSG4 I picked up Street Fighter IV (dunno why, I rubbish at fighting games), Killzone 2, Naruto UNS and... can't remember, I think that might be it. So I bought SFIV and Killzone 2 and never played either of them, I mainly just played MGS and Naruto, and I never beat Naruto until this year haha

Over the years then there was only one game I bought which was Tales of Graces f. It wasn't until March 2013 when I decided to ditch 360 achievement hunting, and focus on platting PS3 games instead. Platting a PS3 game felt so much better than getting all achievements. So after neglecting the PlayStation 3 for so long I'm now starting to make up for it, I'm still focusing on PS3 games and I have a enormous backlog I need to work on xD

I had gotten a PS3 kindaaa late. The Sly Cooper Collection was the first game my mom bought for it. We didn't even have the system at the time either. I saw the game at Cosco and literally lost my shit and was like, I NEED A PS3. LOOK AT WHAT THEY DID. ALL THREE GAMES IN ONE!!!!! That upcoming Christmas, tadaaa.. I also got Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 as well, my first Call of Duty. So that would've meant I got the PS3 in 2012. ..Only four years ago, geez.. lmao. But I've had some good times with that system. I don't have a huge catalog of games like I do with my PS4 though lol. But I have the typical COD, GTA, Sly Cooper and Just Dance games. That's literally what my entire physical library looks like. At least my friend encouraged me to jump on the band wagon. She would always be playing Black Ops on her PS3 while on Skype and I was always like, what game are you playing??

No regrets cause I wouldn't be here :P

My PS3 isn't just a video game console, it's part of the family.

I won't say it WAS a great system because it's STILL a great system. I'll eventually get a PS4 but the good ol' PS3 isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Got mine in 2009 as a gift from my husband after our second child was born because 'a bunch of flowers wasn't going to cut it'

I had to replace the hard drive when it borked, and I lost all my saves, and that's when i invested in PS+.

My first games were INfamous and ..... something else I can't remember  but it had swords and chains and a lady not wearing much in the cold....

I still use the PS3, mainly for Mass Effect 3 MP and the occasional free PS+ game. It's great :)

I ended up getting the PS3 late around 2010 and did wish I got it earlier. My first few games were Resistance, Killzone 2, Uncharted, Demon's Souls, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 1 & 2. It wasn't until 2011 I made that decision to trophy hunt for my favorite games. What makes me happy about the PS3 was all the games I gotten to play so far and only have just a few more games to get before I stop buying anymore. My favorite games for PS3 are GTA IV & V, Red Dead Redemption, Uncharted 2, & Metal Gear Solid 4 just to name a few that have been my best experiences ever. I still have so many games to play and complete so I'll continue to play the PS3 until I finish up everything.

I didn't get mine at launch (i knew flaws would be found so i waited) - I got the "slim" in 2009 and I do prefer it over the ps4. The games are amazing, I still play them to this day and will continue to play them on my broken down ps3. Every now and then I have to jumpstart the console because it frequently dies. My ps3 is immortal and I love it. <3

Wow 10 years.

I was a late adopter of the PS3 and got mine in January of 2010. I remember when it came out but I wasn't into gamming as much (even though I grew up with games) and I couldn't aford the price it was going for. I had been playing some Guitar Hero on PS2 in late 2009 and it was getting my interest in gaming back. That is when I decided I wanted to get a PS3. I remember watching trailers of Heavy Rain and just thought wow tht is what games look like now. My first games I got was GTA4 and The Bigs 2. Then I started ordering a bunch of games of off amazon and had a nice collection in no time. Some of those first games were Dead Space, Dark Sector, Call of Juarez Bound in Blood, Far Cry 2, Bioshock and some other non trophy games. That first year I played many of the great exclusives from Sony. Infamous, Killzone 2 ( till this day is still one of my fav. ps3 games), LBP, Uncharted Drakes Fortune and Resistance 2. I had the system a few months before I started paying attention to trophies and in May of 2010 I popped my first Platinum. I didn't become a hard core trophy hunter right then. It took most of the rest of 2010 to get into the swing of getting platinums on a regular basis. I cn say I have had at least one plat in every month since November of 2010.

All in all I have been very satisfied with the ps3 and it's wide variety of games. I have played so many different types of games compared to what I use to play. I still play it some as I still have games I haven't finished and started yet. Most of my time is on PS4 now.

got mine in early 2010, my first ps3 was the fat model with 40GB.

then we replace it with the slim 160GB, due to the fat one having an overheating problem where it shut itself off when the heat is getting real.

first physical game we got was killzone 2 ( came with the machine )

first digital game we bought was Sonic the Hedgehog 4 episode 1 ( back then it was $15!! ).

even though we never care so much about DLC's but I still remember the very first DLC we bought was Road to Devastation for Dead Nation for $5.

first game I ever plated was Tomb Raider Underworld.

first game I ever played online was Sonic and Sega all Stars Racing, and boy it was awesome.

the ps3 isn't dead yet so I can't name my no.1 favorite game on it, but so far the worst game I ever bought with my own money for the ps3 is Sonic the Hedgehog 06.

Yay PS3! Still have the original, slim and super slim. In all honesty I don't know when I bought it but I know that trophies didn't exist. I started with Ridge Racer and Mobile Suit Targets in sight. The phat still works though gets a bit hot, the slim I think was modded prior to my ownership (Pal console doing 480p?)so I don't use it at all, The super slim is my every day PS3. In honesty I always bought cross platform titles for the 360 though the PS3 got my attention allot more in the past couple of years.

Ten years already? Oh, how the time flies... As for my story...

Let me take you back to 2007. Specifically, to the E3 of 2007. The time when everyone was on pins and needles, awaiting the great MGS4. The PS3 just came out mere months ago, and I was blindly syphoning through the trailers of upcoming titles, just to take a peek at the wonders that were going to be locked behind the barrier of the next generation, until I saw... it.

Yes, I have seen a little trailer of this game about a year ago, then known as the Monster Kingdom. I was drawn in by the lovecraftian vibe and the Dark Fantasy moniker, but then Monster Kingdom faded away into the obscurity... only to suddenly resurface now, with a new name, a new tone and an extra protagonist...

But so, so beautiful.

In the middle of July, 2007, Folklore stole my soul. Aganist my better judgement, despite the fact that I just didn't have the money for the thing, I have swore to myself: "I will buy this new console, and this will be my first game for it." For extra obsession points, I've downloaded the trailer on my PC, to rewatch it whenever I'll want. ... I still have it, by the way.

I was saving the money for six years. Many things happened during that time, but I was determined to keep myself on track.

Folklore didn't do well. At all. Game Republic went down in 2011, and even though I had never played their games, it still hit. Because that meant no further hope for Folklore, and I wanted it to grow into the franchise because I was sure that the game was wonderful. The discs became very rare and seldom seen, especially where I live.

During my fifth year, in 2012, I became worried, and started to actively look for a copy. All shops were out of stock. I've found a last copy in some dying internet magazine, which had a liquidation sale, and bought it as fast as I could, despite the pretty high price. I was afraid I won't get another chance. It came to me three weeks later, and I hid it in my desk until the right time, which came a year later.

During the summer of 2013, I took all of my savings, went to the store in another city, and finally bought a PS3.

Shortly after getting home and setting up the console, I took the precious game out of my desk, popped it in and forgot about real life for two weeks, lost in the Netherworld.

The Oath Was Fulfilled.

My uncle got the PS3 on its release day a few months before I got mine, so my first experience was playing Resistance on his console. I tried the multiplayer first, and I wasn't even playing the game because I was too busy looking at all the scenery around me, amazed at how good the forest setting looked.

My own original PS3 sadly died about 3 years after I got it, not of the YLOD but of a broken disc drive. I've had my current slim PS3 for about six years now, and the little champ is still trucking. Thanks for the decade of blowing my mind and tugging my heartstrings, PS3.

That's quite the op ed written in the OP, but no mention of certain things that were of importance with the PS3.

Sony wasn't being arrogant, MS jumped out a year earlier because they needed to. Sony waited to manufacture enough Blu-ray drives while lobbying all media companies to choose Blu-ray over HD-DVD. It was a great time when the porn industry finally sided with Blu-ray and then Warner Bros the following week put the nail in the coffin of HD-DVD and chose Blu-ray.

At the same time they were working on the Blu-ray front, Sony was also trying to make sure their new console was giving gamers everything they were asking for at the time. High on Sony's perceived wants list was Backward Compatibility. Sony not engineered the initial units with a physical PS2 chip on the motherboard, causing the $599 price tag, they went engineered software emulation for their next models in an attempt to keep giving gamers what they wanted. Neither of these things are free and must be recouped with sales.

Sony launched $599 models and for those of you who didn't work retail at the time, you might not know this, but they sold out. They sold as quickly as they came in for much of the first year. $599 didn't deter gamers any more than a $599 launch iPhone deterred people from smart phone buyers.

The blu-ray laser shortages (resulting in a lack of units to sell) was the MAIN cause of Sony missing it's initial sales goals, not the price.

It's always frustrating when someone revises history and leaves out pretty important parts and then imposes their own revisionist history in place of the facts.

FWIW, I bought three launch 60 Gb units for my brother and two cousins shortly after launch, all paid for by their wives or girlfriends who had no issue with the price. I didn't buy my own until the 120 Gb slim was released, and only bought it because FF XIII came out. If the slim wasn't out yet and the price was still $599, I was prepared to pay that much for it.

Shortly after getting home and setting up the console, I took the precious game out of my desk, popped it in and forgot about real life for two weeks, lost in the Netherworld.

The Oath Was Fulfilled.

Folklore was also the launch title that made me want the PS3. I had a huge back catalog of PSP and PS1/2 games to get through so I waited quite some time and also had as difficult a time as you tracking one down around 2012. Actually, I picked up a copy on clearance at the store I worked at around 2008, but sold it years before I ever ended up buying a PS3 because it was selling for around $70 so I made some profit.

I'm glad someone else enjoyed the game as much as me!

Heh. I went PSP, to PS3 Big (wasn't an 80gb model), then getting a Slim later on, as an upgrade to that.

I think the upgrade was 4 or 5 years ago.

I got my PS3 like 3 months ago.... so not much of a story to tell here.

However the reason I got it was Persona 5 as well as many other PS3 titles I wanted to check out and stream on my twitch channel.

You know you can't stream directly from the PS3, and need a streaming device and a thing to fix the signal, right?

I think that you're putting aside VERY important elements that made Sony raised the price that much.

Backward compatibility by hardware.

Bluray (which allowed Sony to released huge games in only one disc)

SuperAudio Cd player.

If you see the initial fat PS3 for what it was An Entertainment system, it was amazing, one of the best.

In fact, when PS4 was announced and watching the already outdated specs I was like, just give me a revised ps3 with more internal memory, I'm fine a couple more of years. But the investment was already done so they had to release the new console asap.

I love bluray format, all those storage ports sd/microsd, four usb ports, bluetooth.

I bought my fat model in 2009, for God of War 3, one of the best games of last generation.

Ylod on 2012, one of the saddest days of my life, you need to invest a lot of money to fix it, adding it a decent cooler system, but I know that one day I'll do it.

Then I had to buy the worst version of all, Super slim, that one is a console.

Sony certainly has forgotten PS3, 10th anniversary and we had a week sale of PS2/PS1 classics.
