About Rocket Arena servers shutdown

 

Asim: Rocket Arena was removed from all digital stores on November 14, 2023. I'm very interested in the question of the servers: will they be turned off in the near future or will players have the opportunity to safely receive the remaining achievements in the game?

 

EA: We do not have any plans for shutting down the Rocket Arena servers for now so you can play without any issues for years.

Thus, it turns out that everything is even too good to be true. Unless EA's plans suddenly change (hello, Fuse server shutdown), GRID (2019) will remain on sale and on EA Play after November 30, 2023, and the Rocket Arena servers are safe for now.

Electronic Arts and Final Strike Games have released a list of changes to Rocket Arena ahead of its shutdown.

 

Rocket Arena will be sunset and the servers shut down on March 21, 2024 12:00 PM PDT. Let me remind you that Rocket Arena was delisted from sales and EA Play on November 14, 2023. But the game can still be purchased in physical editions, and the game was given away for free with a PS Plus subscription in December 2020.

 

A list of changes that will be made to Rocket Arena before its shutdown:

• Removing Rocket Fuel bundles from the store

• Reducing Rocket Part prices for purchasable items

• Increasing XP from match time 

• Adding the following items from the Season 1 Blast Pass:

   • Crystal Cay Amphora

   • Crater Chronicle Plink

   • Shadow Shot Kayi

   • Harmony Return Trail

   • Inferno Return Trail

   • Grand Gold Rocket Totem Stand

I'm thinking it could be rejected as maybe they require certain updates of a larger size to be paid for possibly? (Kinda like the whole file transfer fees some websites use to have for uploading.)

Dropping in to share that the Vita version of Phantom Breaker Battle Grounds is only $2.99, and shares DLC with the PS4 version if you've already purchased it.

 

I'm about 98% sure that the Vita's multiplayer trophies are obtainable through adhoc, but hopefully somebody that's played the game can confirm that.

Multiplayer trophies on Vita are obtainable via adhoc—confirmed by @cr1s a few posts below.

Thank you for pointing that out. However, and thankfully, all guides say that the multiplayer trophies are doable by ad-hoc, so if you have 2 vitas and 2 accounts with the game, or know someone with the game who lives close to you, you can get the trophies. But someone checking online play and confirming would be great. This is an old game and not the most popular, there are entire months where no one earned the trophies. So without the devs saying that in the blog post, the 27th date for last achievers doesn't mean much.

 

The ps4 servers should be fine, but the last earners show similar dates. I'd personally do them before the new version releases in 2024, but this was not a shutdown announcement, so in theory it should be safe.

Oh, great news! That's cheaper than the EU copy (4.49€) so I'll definitely grab it for self-boost in the future. And yes, the DLCs are cross-buy.  Prices without sales are 4€ for each of the DLCs (so 8€ total), and 11€ for the main game (PS4). So not too expensive if you don't want to wait for a sale. The game had a permanent price down for both VITA and PS4 versions in 2018, according to PS Prices.

Apparently online play for Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds on Vita was removed as far back as June 2022, when Rocket Panda Games took ownership of the IP, according to this post:

I just checked online for Phantom Breaker on vita, seems to work fine, connects to the server as expected and able to create a match, etc. Can't test adhoc as I don't have a second vita but I imagine it works fine still. Rocket Panda Games clearly have no idea about vita servers still being up, as I just got the online done earlier this year.

If you don’t see the game on the EA service updates page yet, switch your region to USA. EA will update all of their regional pages eventually.

 

Thanks for let us know, I think I have it on my library but platinum is hard to achieve? My internet isn't the best so I try to avoid online games with problematic trophies or bugs

The online for Phantom Breaker is indeed still up for Vita as I've just checked it as well.

 

I can also confirm that all 5 multiplayer trophies (As a Phantom Breaker, Like a Scavenger, Kurisu and Phantom Breaker, Kurisu and the Scavenger, and Frau and Phantom Breaker) can be obtained in adhoc. You can go for the multiplayer trophies right away and they're easily doable on your own if you have 2 Vitas. Just fight a quick Battleground match while playing as Kurisu (not required for Frau) to get both Like a Scavenger and Kurisu and the Scavenger, then play through Stage 0: Akihabara on Easy difficulty in Co-Op once while playing as Kurisu, then once more while playing as Frau to get the remaining trophies. You can use the R button often to perform stronger attacks whenever the green gauge recharges to dispose enemies quicker, and for the boss fight you can continuously get close to the boss and press  to grab/throw him and dispose of him quicker that way (works against all bosses IIRC). You only have to control the second character whenever you have to go to the next screen, so there's need to worry about it even if it gets KO'd.

Ad-hoc doesn’t need to be “tested” for functionality if it exists as an option.

I hope that The Crew receives an offline playability patch rather than receiving the "buried 6-feet underground" treatment... Polyphony will implement an offline patch for Gran Turismo Sport as far as I know however games like The Crew and Need For Speed 2015 scare me the most because of their developers/publishers, although an offline patch is possible to implement on those games too with enough resource/effort (here's the glorified digital/online-only future folks...).

wish there was a way to Relaunch Dead Online Servers, I can go play online in decade old games on computer, I wish Sony would offer a good solution.

 

Literally Turn the PS3, Vita and later PS4 & overtime PS5 into bricks.

Of a kind. There is a size limit for "required to run" data, that's the core of any major patch/expansion, that has to go through Sony checks first. I haven't touched the upload software in years, but it supposed to stop you from even submitting if the file is too large, so how did this.......?

In any case, the billions of bytes you see passing into CoD and other similar games are hot patched when the game is launched after the new core files are downloaded/installed. As an example, my PS4 says the last Warframe update was 4gb. At the title screen, it switched to "looking for updates" and downloaded a further 4gb. Essential files for install have to go through Sony to make sure they don't break anything vital to the consoles function, everything else can be dripped in.

Last night after midnight the servers were still running, I managed to get a few more wins, but today it's all over
It was a wonderful little fun and fresh game, may it rest in peace... (excluding the cash cow way to progress)

 

 

 

PS... I managed to get all the trophies on the PC and the PS4 US version, but unfortunately, I only have one left for 100% on the EU version.
Gee, if the devs had left the game until the end of December/January 1st and/or the final season of alliance battles which would have been on 12/18-19...
