ZitMeatloaf
I thought it might be fun to have a discussion about games that we might individually dislike, but the rest of the world won't stop raving about them. It happens to all of us, I'd imagine: critics unleash a tidal wave of 8's, 9's and occasional 10's for a game, the Metacritic score rises, and our friends won't shut up about how wonderful the game is. Expecting greatness, we try it for ourselves, only to be left with an unpleasant feeling somewhere within the range of disappointment to loathing. So let's hear those dissenting opinions! With a topic almost certain to generate disagreement, let's all try to keep things civil and recognize that everybody is entitled to their own opinion. These aren't personal attacks on any gamer's taste in games, after all. If you happen to enjoy a game that somebody else takes a swing at, you go right ahead and keep enjoying it. Also, while most of discussion will probably be about PS games, feel free to discuss any game, from any era, from any platform. I offer my choices: Dead Rising - I got this game dirt cheap last year as part of a Humble Bundle. Good thing it was cheap, too, because I think this game is absolutely terrible. Before I played the game, I knew nothing about it other than it was originally an Xbox 360 exclusive. After a quick bit of recon, it looked like the game had reviewed very well and established a loyal fan base. My hopes rose and I tried it out, only to be greeted by a steaming pile 'o poop. The controls are very clunky and tank-like. The game is one big timed mission (I hate timed missions), peppered with lots of escort missions (I really hate escort missions). The photography element is something I'm just not interested in - I'm almost never one to explore any game's photo mode. And I'm not unfairly comparing it to modern games, either; I can think of plenty of early era PS3/Xbox 360 games that look and play much better than this. Hell, I can think of PS2/OG Xbox games that look and play better than this. LittleBigPlanet - I don't dislike this game anywhere near as much as my first entry. I just find it to be mostly boring. This game received near universal acclaim upon it's release, so I was expecting something really great. But I just couldn't get into it, and I found the platforming controls to be a bit weighty and frustrating. I dabbled in it only a little when I first played it (it was the free game I claimed after the PSN hack). I tried giving it another shot last year, but got bored with it again after the first couple of worlds and gave up on it. Bonus entry - Final Fantasy VIII - My gripe with this game is really only with one particular feature of the game, but it was bad enough to get me to give up on what could otherwise have been a GREAT game. I absolutely hated the way the game treated spells like a consumable commodity, instead of, you know, like spells. I hated having to draw spells from enemies - every venture out into the world felt like there was a chore to go along with it. I'm the kind of RPG gamer who likes to be well-stocked with provisions, so I felt the need to spend additional time roaming around, waiting for random encounters, just so I could draw more spells. It probably added a dozen hours onto my game time. Somewhere in the middle of disc 3, I lost interest and just gave up. And I can't be the only one who felt this way; for the 2013 re-release on PC, they added an optional "Magic Booster" feature (a feature that was advertised), which essentially rendered this mechanic moot (I believe any successful draw automatically gives you 100 spells, instead of the small handful you got with each draw on the original PS1 release). Maybe I should give the game another chance with that version one day, I might really like the game then.

JD-D2
I can never get into Assassin’s Creed. Holds my hand a bit too much, combat (at least in the older ones, haven’t played Odyssey for instance) is bland and repetitive, and the storyline makes less than zero sense.
danceswithsloths
Grand Theft Auto Series - Stopped playing these games years ago. they were fun to play at friends' houses for an hour or two but the story was very generic. Free roaming and shooting cops only kept me entertained for a little while. the newest one is supposed to be great though so maybe someday. The Last Of Us - The slow parts made me drop out before even finishing the game. The story was moving and the short bursts of action were fun, but i felt like i spent too much time wandering through decrepit buildings and pushing trash cans around. again, maybe ill get back into it someday obligatory Fortnite response. just never got into it. played like 3 or 4 matches total and didnt like it much. ive played PUBG and APEX and ive enjoyed those more so idk what it was really. Popular Post StraightVege
Not sure I dislike them, since I've never actually played them myself, but I have no interest whatsoever in the modern competitive gaming scene—Fortnite, Apex Legends, PUBG, etc. Its been a long time since a multiplayer game suited my tastes, which is a shame.

scemopagliaccioh
There is one for the fanbases and one I personally don't like let's see: Final Fantasy VI. I remember a time when people were tired of the FFVII fanbase and FFVI was an underrated gem, now the FFVI's fanbase became more obnoxious than VII a long time ago. Game is by no means bad, don't get me wrong but there are clearly superior FFs like 5, 7, 10 etc. Now, as for a game I really don't like, that would be Nier Automata, partly it's my fault because I'm tired of the theme of existentialism, every time someone has to insert philosophy it's always this and people treat it as if it's the second coming of Christ. No it's not. I was hyped at the time for the gameplay, coming from the famous Platinum Games after all but the combat felt so empty, and 90% of the enemies are the same looking robots. There was also a scene of Pascal one of the robots, who I guess voiced Taro's opinions, otherwise why put that there, calling Nietzsche a nevrotic psycho. No he was not, you're just an hack, true he ended up dying a most infamous death, but his works were uplifting. Cassylvania
Skyrim. I have a love/hate relationship with that game. There's obviously a lot to do, I've probably put more hours into it than any other game this decade, and the stuff the mod community has put out is mind-blowing. But at the end of the day, it's a broken, shallow game that offers little more than the illusion of choice. Sure, you can go explore a cave, but what are you going to find? Bandits and gold. Doesn't matter what direction you go in. Bandits and gold. You can talk to people, but do you really care what they have to say? Outside of maybe two questlines, the ONLY character I even remember from that game is Nazeem, and it's for all the wrong reasons. Compare that to a game like Dark Souls, where there is story and atmosphere. I never felt a hint of remorse for the hundreds of townspeople I killed in Skyrim, but the stuff that happened to Solaire or Maiden Astraea in Demon's Souls still makes me sick to this day. Skyrim has all these concepts that would be really great in theory, but the presentation is so sorely lacking that I honestly believe the developers were banking on the community to make the game for them. You can be a hunter or a gatherer or a merchant or a chef, but can you really? The game has that "option," but it's mostly left up to your imagination. Pretend this camp you found in the wilderness is your camp, and pretend you're not the Dragonborn (even though the game demands it), and pretend that cooking matters and that you need to eat to survive and that you can actually freeze to death. And that wouldn't be so bad if the combat was good, but it's basically Minecraft. "Builds" are barely even a thing. You're either a warrior or an archer (nobody plays as a mage), and let's be honest -- everybody ends up as an archer. And while I don't think it's fair to compare Skyrim to Dark Souls, since they're obviously not trying to be the same kind of game, I have to admit it's somewhat embarrassing that Dark Souls ends up being a better RPG than vanilla Skyrim, since that's clearly the market Bethesda seemed to be going for. (Now everybody hates me.)

Upendo_Vitani
I really don't see the appeal of all these Battle Royale games. I also didn't care for the new God of War though I am challenging myself to get the platinum because I do like the story and I know it is within the realm of possibility. There's probably a bunch more since I'm not usually one for AAA games and if I do buy one it's not until I do heavy research and it goes down in price. Or my bf buys it on my profile lol.
