Hi everyone,   I noticed that there were a lot of old boosting threads (I mean, A LOT) that were simply locked by myself or another mod instead of being deleted all together for various reas

It's time to shut down all official boosting threads.

 

They've served their limited purpose years ago and aren't necessary any longer thanks to sessions.

 

Having these threads visible only begets more boosting threads. It's best to just shut these now and try moving forward.

I’d like to make a suggestion; not so sure how effective it would be. In the same vein of the “leaderboard rules” and “guide of the year awards” tabs, there could be a similar blue tab linking to the session page in the same area of the forum side like “Organize your multiplayer sessions here >/Request Boosting or Co-op here >.” It doesn’t have to link to a whole guide on how to do something self explanatory once you’re there. I just don’t think anyone is voluntarily searching for that one “what to do when you want to boost a trophy” topic that people heroically link to in replies, let alone click on it afterward.

 

Even on PST.org, a single thread dedicated to boosting requests was pinned to the top for each game so there was no question whether there already was one. This cleanup project is a valiant effort, but it’s cleaning up a mess made by people who may well have no idea they’re making a mess in the first place. For the sessions feature being as functional as it is, and very active with people who already know where it is, it’s more in left field for anyone new (both for the section on the home page and the option at the top of all pages).

That already exists but it only appears whilst you're logged out and visit the forum for a game with online trophies, though people still wilfully ignore it regardless. Also, having stickied boosting threads, does absolutely nothing to stop people making their own boosting request threads, because they carry on doing it regardless.

I'd just like to point out that even PST.org had people repeatedly making duplicate boosting threads for nearly every game that had online trophies. Just like the work being done in this thread, there were staff (and helpful members of the community) who got those threads closed, merged or outright deleted.

 

No matter how easy you make it, people are still gonna create duplicate threads and hijack ongoing discussions with boosting requests. That's why there needs to be a vigilant Plan-B.

I’m not suggesting that forum topics (putting it bluntly makes the absurdity more obvious) are at all a preferable way to fish for multiplayer partners, or that sessions have completely saved the day either (though they are a cut above, you ultimately must still reach the point of private communication). This isn’t really directed at my guy @Helyx specifically, (as he knows this as well as I do or better) but discord servers (and by extension, long standing friends) are the real way to go for many reasons. That’s the lesson for people to (eventually) learn, my only doubt is that it can be learned by reading a wall of text outlining the rules of using a website.
