Popular Post Meettchii
Platinum #10 - Spooder-Man Be Greater Collect all Trophies There is not anything to say that others have not mentioned already. The game is fun, some of collectibles get tedious after a while, but still... everything else is good (story, combat, swinging, the world, etc...). I ended up grabbing the CTNS DLCs while they were on sale and got all of their trophies, I am not gonna lie though... I didn't enjoy the DLC as much as I did with the base game, but eh...at least I enjoyed the base game. I still need to do another playthrough for the NG+ trophies, but I gotta finish working on the JoJo platinum first *strikes a pose*. Now, with all that being said... ummm Insomniac.... mmm.... *whispers "gimme Kraven the Hunter"*

It started great, first few worlds was very good and gameplay felt nice. But later the game i got more rushed the story and worlds felt. The ending sequence especially felt very rushed and i had lot of problems with it. The plat is pretty easy. End game grind to get from level 68 to 99 for one of the trophies was a bit tedious, but otherwise a fun platinum too. I wish the art in all games looked as great as it does in Ni No Kuni - trophy pictures too. I'm sure I'll get around to Wrath of the White Witch at some point in the future.

Popular Post AK-1138
Platinum #451: Difficulty: 4.5/10 Playtime: 15-20 hours Enjoyment: 7/10 A simple story the game may be, but the story of me and this game is far from it. Let it be known that I've tried to prevent the tragic events about to be recounted from affecting my opinion of the game as much as possible... but I'd be lying if I didn't say they soured my experience somewhat. I had it all planned out. Start the decade off with a promising game, preferably within the span of January 1. The New Year's party really, ahem, took off and for all that I have an... idiosyncratic sense of priorities in life, I wasn't gonna prioritize some game over that. Life is what happens to you when you're busy making other plans, right? Anyways, the good times kept rolling all night long, and sleeping patterns were summarily lightly disrupted. I amazingly managed to awaken unscathed by the earlier revelry, and decided to sit down and play in good time. After a few hours of positive first impressions... it happened. Game screwed up my PS4 somehow. Trophies wouldn't unlock, and soon after stopped syncing and I got signed out of the game, and my user account, multiple times. Moreover, the problem spread to other games as well. Literally shaking with stress, I tried every fix under the sun, rebuilt my database, tried unlocking trophies in other games (which naturally wouldn't run)... it's hard to know which method actually fixed it, but I suspect deleting the game and the save file did the trick. 5 hours of progress lost, but I was just happy to have everything back in order so I took it in stride. For what it's worth, it's not a unique case. It seems to be just a freak accident, and I wouldn't want to turn anyone away from a potentially better game experience than mine thinking this game is somehow "dangerous" or whatever. In the words of Forrest Gump... shit happens. So anyway... the game. Well, I liked it... to a point. The art direction is gobsmackingly excellent with a variety of styles and eye-popping visual flair that always serves to enhance the story being told and anchoring the proceedings with atmosphere... the way the environment heightens the emotional beats is Disneyesque in the best possible way. In fact, I'm amazed they didn't get their asses fried to a crisp by the WDC legal team for making a level that's just basically the "Kiss the Girls" sequence from The Little Mermaid! When you rewind time, there's always something going on to catch your eye and remove the tedium of how many times you have to do it. Just watching the shadowplay as time passes beautifully zen. While it doesn't take many chances with its narrative, it's got heart and soul and is always unerringly confident in its mission statement. In short, the production values are beyond reproach and serve a purpose beyond simply being a feast for the eyes. Where it falters, however, is as a game proper. The controls are stiff and unsatisfying; all too many deaths were caused by unreliable jump gauging. The time wasted by staggering animations caused by even the shortest falls really slows down the pace, and you can just get the fuck outta here with falling damage in a game where you play as someone already dead! And then they committed the deadly sin of making no-death runs part of the proceedings. The impact of story-rich games is almost inevitably lessened when you're forced to replay their linear sequences of story beats again and again. To my credit, I aced the supposedly hardest one (the fire one, for anyone keeping score) on my first try, but the other ones took five to six tries at a minimum. An almost embarrassingly poor choice of trophy requirements. Challenge combined with unreliable gameplay is almost never a recipe for a good time. I really wanted to like this a lot more than I ended up doing, and the devs come frustratingly close to brushes with greatness so many times. That I still enjoyed it as much as I did with its barrelful of caveats is a credit to how superlative an experience the game might have been. I would advise anyone desiring to take the plunge to take their time with it and play it at their own pace, rather than how I went through it through sheer dogged determination alone. I might replay it myself someday, now it's free of any external constraints and all. Not the best way to start a decade, but that's life. The journey goes ever on. Edited January 4, 2020 by AK-1138 Clarifying more about my console troubles. Game itself is objectively an innocuous factor in that whole bit of bother.

StilRh
Plat #169: Raging Loop Fun 8.5/10 Difficulty 2/10 Time 30 hours reading every line of text in main route and side routes and messing around with bonus text etc Wow, I had a good feeling when I saw this released but I didn't pull the trigger until I saw this on sale. It is a visual novel that is influenced by the Werewolves x Groundhog day X Danganronpa. I found this very well written, with a gripping overarching supernatural mystery, loveable characters and when appropriate some comedy and romance sprinkled in liberally. Of course it has some of the same tropes as VNs and if you're not a fan of reading you should give this a miss. It's the first game that made me stay up all night playing for some time!! It has some really nice post game content, you can explore old routes with extra dialogue. Good ease of playing, you don't have to muck around with saving at critical junctions, it's clearly landmarked in a nice flow chart like some of the kinder VNs
Popular Post StraightVege
Father and Son Obtain all other trophies #222 I avoided trying this wildly popular 2018 reimagining until recently, since I tend to be a purist in regards to a series—I wanted more of the same spectacle brawler gameplay I came to expect from God of War, but accepted that the franchise had run its course after Ascension, and was okay with it being over. I was incredulous at the idea of GoW being homogenized into another reboot filled with AAA tropes, and this one has 'em all: emotionally manipulative child sidekick; forced slow-walk dialogue segments; shaky OTS camera perspective (usually a terrible choice for melee combat); boring, risk-free climbing sections; open world with multitudes of crap to collect; loot system, light RPG elements; I could go on. This game brought so many other titles to mind. A few of the gripes I had: -Why must Kratos slowly climb down chains and ledges, instead of just hopping down? Waste of the player's time. -There were way too many reskinned troll boss fights—these all felt the same. -The tight camera can definitely cause issues in certain battles, and Kratos's "aim assist" sometimes targets unintended enemies. -The kid's annoying yelled warnings in combat were unhelpful, and he often grabbed enemies when I didn't want him to. -Rushed, unsatisfying conclusion (they're clearly saving a lot for the inevitable sequel). As horribly negative as that all sounds, there were also many things about the game I liked. All of the above familiar aspects have been weaved together into a mostly-satisfying action game, even though it doesn't have much in common with the original titles (other than the protagonist). I was impressed that they've actually managed to transform the perpetually angry mass murderer Kratos into a deeper character, who even shows brief flashes of likeability. While I expected to hate the new axe, it surprisingly holds its own as an interesting weapon alongside the blades, and the equippable special attacks are fun to use. The Norse setting is fleshed out by robust lore, and it really works as a refreshing change of pace from the Greek stuff. There are some wonderful narrative moments and references, too. I found the game most enjoyable when I just sailed around exploring the various optional islands, solving simple puzzles, and locating Valkyries to fight. I may not share the common opinion that it's a masterpiece, or even my favorite GoW, but it's certainly a solid start to a new direction for the franchise. The developers are admirable in their ability to accept criticism, so I expect the sequel to be even better received. Popular Post blu3st4rdust305
The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan - PS4 (#294) "Total Shocker" Supermassive Games really knows how to release games that are simply my jam. The cross between Adventure, Horror and CYOA really just works. Until Dawn is the perfect prototype for what could be done and with this game, the developers truly played with the Social aspect of playing this kind of game. The stepping stone between these of Hidden Agenda shows these guys have been thinking about how to further innovate and improve the experience. My first run was blind, just to enjoy the story and play it my way. It was delightful. Jump scares, creepy creatures, and tense chase sequences abound. My second playthru was using Shared Story with a good buddy of mine. This, too, was excellent. The game does not open verbal communications between the players, so you must make your dialogue and action choices count, meanwhile your partner is making choices of their own which could impact the story line, very much as if they were another person within a survival horror scenario. This was an ingenious addition to this game. Unlike Telltale Games, this game very clearly shows that your dialogue choices and actions often reroute destiny within the game. The relationship tracking with the resulting dialogue make playthroughs pretty varied. The secrets and "visions" add lore and help the story unfold in front of you and the characters you control. While the cause of dread is quickly discerned, the writers did their best to make sequences interesting. The deja vu hallway scene with Brad and the ballroom scene with Fliss are particular standouts. The curator seemed unnecessary, but this may be the primary way to tie the anthology together. And of course, it is nice to see them tease what this Anthology may have in store in the future. That is not to say this game reaches the same great heights of Until Dawn. While that game carried a bit of silliness and a much longer series of events drenched in suspense and high stakes, this game is broken up into 3 basic acts, where the first act takes too long to develop the characters and get to the action, so to speak. Where horror tropes and campiness buoy some of the weaker aspects of the Adventure genre in Until Dawn, the characters and their conversations are left to carry this game thru to the end, with mixed results. The game also does away with the ability to skip over some already seen events to help speed up replays to see different versions of the story or when running thru for the platinum. This makes the platinum pretty annoying to achieve. The developers also clearly struggled to maintain high graphical fidelity. Some scenes suffer from tearing and blurriness. When the game is running smoothly, it is gorgeous with the character models standing out, but those graphical dips do rip you out of the realness the developers were aiming for. Overall, really enjoyed this game. Any fans of adventure or horror should definitely look under this hood for a good experience.
Popular Post Mikel
#202 ~ Kingdom Hearts Final Mix (PS4) KINGDOM HEARTS Master Obtain all trophies. I figure I'd go about with an old favorite of mine from the PS2 era as my first platinum of the decade! As I stated with my KH3 platinum, Kingdom Hearts was a series I got into during my preteen years in 2004, and fifteen years (2019) really does make a difference since my experiences with the game (as well as later games like KH2 and 3) helped me throughout my proud mode playthrough, combined with me using the right equipment, figuring out what strategies I should use, and reaching the recommended levels with Sora and friends before I start each of the worlds featured in the game. I also own the PS3 version of this as well, and admittedly, I wasn't confident on wanting to platinum the game around that time since I wasn't much of a trophy hunter back then, but now that I'm able to apply my prior experiences with the series, I feel like revisiting the PS3 version and getting the platinum on that one as well sometime.
Popular Post AK-1138
Platinum #452: Difficulty: 2/10 Playtime: 5-6 hours Enjoyment: 6/10 So while browsing the old JP store on a whim late December last year, what to my wondering eye should appear but a heretofore ubeknownst regional version of Broken Sword 5? Not being a man to turn down an agreeable stacking opportunity, and at a 75% discount at that, a decision was duly made in its favour, and into the bAKlog it went. Now, since I'd last had me a bit of the third best Broken Sword game not even two years ago, I decided to try my hand at a relatively casual attempt at speedrunning... hardly an ideal way to play an adventure game, I know. I would have handily made it to #3 on the current leaderboards if not for the odd mishap or two or three or four. Firstly, I pissed away some fifteen minutes on startup due to rushing and missing an event flag. Then things chugged along at a nice pace until a certain inevitable goat had me replay another fifteen minutes because of course it did. It wouldn't be a Broken Sword game if it weren't for some hellish goat messing up your shit. Oh man, does this mean The VVitch exists within the Broken Sword verse? Then the language barrier came into play with a certain coded letter. Frantically searching around for some help, I found it in the most innocent and unlikely of places... PlayStationTrophies! Yes indeed, that increasingly stagnant and OBSOLETE website I hardly ever visit anymore bailed my ass out and for that I'm grateful. After that, it was a straight shot to the finish line, bar the odd messed up puzzle or two. I really think I could have made it to #3 if I could have avoided these setbacks. Oh well. It was an honest try. Love the Broken Sword franchise, and Serpent's Curse really does a great job of bringing the series back to its wry yet painterly globetrotting roots after the patchy Angel of Death and the experimental Sleeping Dragon. I had a really special time playing SD back in the day though, so despite its flaws that I do fully recognize, I still rank it second to Shadow of the Templars. It wouldn't be a bad idea to get the rest of the series back onto PlayStation, just sayin'... A powerful swansong for dearly departed series composer Barrington Pheloung though it is, the game's most enduring impact on my life is "Jasmine", that goddamn catchy ass bootleg dollar store T.Rex song that keeps worming its way into various playlists of mine. Speaking of which, guess it's time for me to get back on the road, cruisin' down the highway... stop the car, I wanna get in.
