No Multiplayer Mode Faction - The Last Of Us Part 2

I suspect there might be a TLoU Factions game released separately later on, actually. If not then it'll likely be DLC. Both Uncharted and Killzone had standalone multiplayer modes you could buy separately back on the PS3 a while after release of the main game (although those games came with the MP included initially) so that is also a possibility.

Nope I doubt anyone really bought it for the multiplayer but there was plenty of people who jumped into the MP after completing the game and enjoyed it just as much if not more than the campaign and were looking forward to it this time around.

I had recently been speaking with a few friends during our Monster Hunter World sessions about how we were looking forward to playing TLOU2 MP again only to now be quite disappointed with the news it won't have it.

It doesn’t need it, like at all.

While I originally bought it for the single player(got it day 1)the single player ended up so disappointing that I went to the multiplayer and finally had fun with the game.

How were you disappointed with the SP? That’s the best part.

Get em while it's hot people! MP modes are made for short-term enjoyment (e.g., servers shutting down, potential hackers coming in later, etc.) while SP campaigns are made to stand the test of time. A good narrative, incredible graphics, and fun gameplay are key!

Good point man, couldn’t have said it better.

I'm ambivalent about this. I loved the single player and it is all you need imho.

But I am also one of those that still play Factions on PS4. It is the one MP game that I really enjoy and have been playing for like 4 to 5 years.

But as much as I like it I am kinda dreading being pulled into an MP like that again ?,you know what I mean. So, yes,I would happily dive into another Factions war, but if there is none ... ? okay for me.

Naughty Dog’s statement calmed me down a bit. If they decided that the MP shouldn’t be included in the main game, then, probably, they were right.

It seems that the MP could come as a standalone release. Now, I’m imagining that, alongside with a juicy list of online trophies.  :holy:

I just hope that the MP still releases on the PS4. I’m not going to buy the PS5 at launch.

Story is generic when it comes to zombie media. The story would have been actually interesting if ellie actually gets to sacrifice herself for the greater good. I hated Ellie, only characters I liked were Bill and Joel. There's too many fights with humans and bandits, that is so boring in every zombie game when I want to fight mainly zombies

Wow

There was no contradiction and you weren't lied to, mate. The game didn't release with the mode inexplicably absent, they've released a statement clarifying the situation well in advance of release- there's a sizeable MP component in the works but it will be separate to this release.

As for the really dumb rEpLaY vAlUe rubbish, are you saying that in the decades before online multiplayer that games never had any replay value? Such utter nonsense, games that are excellent have inherent replay value, doesn't matter if they are linear narrative-driven or not. You mean to say you've never watched a film again, or read a book again, or listened to a music album ever again? A well crafted experience will always justify the retail price. Back in the days of the SNES, games cost the equivalent of today's prices or even more and they could be completed in hours, but nobody whinged about it then because the most well made ones warranted multiple playthroughs purely on the basis of being excellent games. The Uncharted games are well-loved and remembered for their story and characters. Almost all of the games you listed are dependent on grindy busywork that pads out the game to artificially extend their run time. That's not "value", that's lazy and boring.

Buy it or don't buy it, makes no odds to me, the game is going to be hugely successful and probably talked about for years to come, just like the story in the first game.

But what you've said is very, very wrong, just thought you should know.

Yeah there was a contradiction, and yes they did lie.

There is going to be multiplayer with the game,” Newman said. “We’re really excited to share details about it, but that’s going to be at a later date.

Whether the game released or not is 100% irrelevant and a blatantly stupid argument. A statement claiming something will be in the game only for one statement later to say otherwise is what matters and a contradiction is. There is nothing "really, really dumb about the replay-value rubbish". Your SNES comparison is completely broken because those were completely different times, and gameplay was stronger in them, especially the ones that are RPGs. Ironically, you're utterly wrong about the games I listed being "busywork that pads the game to artificially extend their run time" (a claim you're ignorantly making purely because open-world games require you to traverse across their maps), and the implication that single player games can't relatively have their own quantitative amount of padding is hysterical. Non-biased ND fans are well aware of their excessive padding in the form of ladder sections, forcefully slowed down to dime walking sections, escort Ellie over wooden pallet sections, find and move dumpster and crates to get to higher ledges sections (which Lost Legacy is a better game for completely ridding such a concept, yet it was brought back in TLOUPII), tedious and dull climbing sections (dear lord is U4 the worse offender of this), and more. The subjective levels of enjoyment someone has with a game doesn't mean it objectively has strong replay-value; being able to play a game's story mode 20x+ does't inherently mean it has strong replay-value. Your argument isn't valid against mine, which is based around existent and significant mechanics and features that justify playing the game over again (e.g., a changing world that evolves with the decisions you make, new story scenes, new characters with different gameplay abilities, etc) as the one and done and scripted story won't do it. You're not going to make any valid points by attempting to persistently force the idea that good narrative alone justifies paying full retail price for a non-interactive drama but action/adventure third person game. At least in the present I can't argued against U4 and TLOU here, because they're less than half the price of a full retail game currently.

That line is so pathetic. The game is going to be hugely successful because its the sequel to TLOU and being developed by Naughty Dog, not explicitly because it'll be a good game, which many already think it is despite not even so much as touching it or seeing gameplay footage of it ("NaUgHTy GoDs neVA disSapOInt!!"). There are various ND fans out there who literally buy any game they make purely because they're making it, and these comments have been blatantly made across social media (Youtube, Twitter, Facebook, etc, all of which i'm at and seen with my eyes), and you're clearly no different from these people. As for the first TLOU (which I love but is not a 10/10); that game is painfully overrated and is talked about not because of its actual story but because of the telling of it and the characters with their interactions and development. The style of your argument is very fallacious, especially with how integral it is to many people's subjective enjoyments with the game rather than any objective reasoning. People literally make non-interactive drama games their favorite because their story modes (word for word) made them cry or feel emotionally impacted alone..alone.. I've seen that and people have told me.

What I've said is very-very right, hence the need of ND adding MP to all their as people would falsely label them as... "SiNgLE plAyeR" games (U2, U3, U4, UTTL, and TLOU) in the first place—and supporting their Mp modes in those games post launch far more than story, which U2 and U3 didn't even get—with them even attempting to at least bring it in TLOUPII rather than just having the idea from the onset to make a purely single player game, unlike various other talented developers who've planned to not have Mp in their games from the start. Unlike myself, ND fans love not acknowledging that little fact and truth about ND, instead proceeding to narrowly praise their efforts for making strong story driven linear games. The fact that ND have relied and consistently included mp in their games truthfully says a lot, especially when its obvious that their sales history negates the argument that they've included it to make up for cost. Have fun spending full retail price on a game that won't last you 20hrs and have you coming back to a week later after beating it.

I prefer the sections with fighting the humans, zombies are so played out in general.  But I agree, Ellie should have been sacrificed for the greater good but Joel made an emotional decision, not a logical one.

@Stan Lee I actually think the games back in the NES/SNES had very little replay value comparatively to today’s games, a large reason why is no online multiplayer, not to mention that games and content were much shallower back then because technological limitations.  Sports games like Tecmo Bowl were great but you were dependent on having friends over.  Double Dribble was such a poor excuse for a basketball game, bored of it after 1 day where I can sink 100’s/1000’s of hours into NBA 2K and not be bored.

The permadeath feature in games like Super Mario 3 artificially added replay but it was not a great deal as you were replaying the same early levels over and over to tackle what you really wanted to play/beat.

i wish I was a kid in this generation of gaming.  I never understood the retro craze (reselling NES or Mini PS1, why?? It does not hold up well).

Yesterday was a roller coaster. First news broke that there was no multiplayer and that became the hot trending story rather than focusing on the new mechanics and gameplay (crawling in grass, dogs, hunters using names of others, new bloaters/infected). I was one of those who panicked as I play the crap out of TLOU multiplayer. I was devastated. Then people started cancelling their pre-orders and took to the message boards to complain and rightly so. It got ugly and fast. Even the trolls (you know who you are) came out beating their chests saying they hated the multiplayer just to get a rise out of us.

I just think Naughty Dog could have handled the situation better. Why didn't they address the no multiplayer with their Outbreak day but reassure everyone that it's coming at a later date? Whether that be a DLC, a stand along game or on the PS5 version. It wouldn't have created the mass hysteria that was yesterday and there wouldn't be a need to put out a statement to the world. I am feeling better about the future of TLOU2 multiplayer, it's just that we'll have to wait a bit longer before we can play it.

There's only a handful of multiplayer experiences I've enjoyed. TLoU was one of them. I played Factions for 6 months, and still occasionally do. From a trophy hunting perspective, this is good news, but it'll probably make me enjoy the game less.

To everyone happy there's no multiplayer (and those who just boosted) you really robbed yourself of an amazing experience. Factions is a mix strategy, stealth, and typical shooting albeit with extremely limited resources, unlike other online PvPs where you just continuously blast away.

All your EZPZ's have stolen what matters most in gaming, amazing fun.

If you look at the statement that the single player campaign is enormous and it's the most ambitious for Naughty Dog to date, does it make you think the game could play a little differently in the case that it's not as linear as all Naughty Dog games tend to be. I mean I still haven't played Uncharted 4 so I don't know if it's any different than the other games, but I wonder if this means that they'll have side missions or it's a more open world concept. Don't know if they revealed any of that stuff since I don't follow game updates or anything like that; I just buy them and see for myself when I play them. Any thoughts on that matter?

That's a bit like saying you'll miss out on a date if you don't make an orgy out of it. Good for you if you are into that sort of thing, but someone who isn't does not miss out.

Usually not a fan of tacked on multiplayer and especially not multiplayer trophies that require a lot of extra time in the game, but TLOU multiplayer was the single best multiplayer I have ever seen on any console. It was unique and fun, you had to use your brain and take risks to get ahead and being the last guy on your team with the lone wolf perk and increased supplies against several enemies who hunt you like an animal is among the most thrilling and (if you manage to win against the odds) rewarding experiences I have ever had in all my years of gaming. The multiplayer missing is a big blow to the new game as a whole because in the first game I spent more time in it than in my like total of 5 runs of singleplayer even well after I got the platinum for it. Not gonna lie, kinda pisses me off and definitely reduces the value of the game due to lower play time, as consequence I might just wait for a price reduction instead of buying it during the first week like I originally planned.

It's one thing if you just aren't into it, the multiplayer experience isn't for everyone.

But let's not kid ourselves, most of these comments indicate people celebrating the death of a truly unique and widely popular experience, simply because it makes their trophy hunting slightly more convenient. I'm willing to bet if some of these people actually played games for anything besides trophies, they might actually enjoy this mode.

From what the reviewers stated, the levels were still (as it always was with naughty dog games) linear. Someone especially asked if there were sections like in Madagascar with the jeep in U4 to which the reviewer denied. As you haven't played that game yet, be happy to find out. This was actually a very cool part in the game and I wished this would be much more the case in naughty dog games. So this game will be as linear as usual, surely some area's will be a bit wider than usual, but I won't expect too much. There is another thing that should be concerned: remember when you played TLOU for the first time and almost didn't get any trophy until you finished the game once? That was actually a cool experience and I really wonder how they will come up with the trophies this time because now with multiplayer even missing the chance is very high there will be quite some trophy pop ups during the first playthrough. Or a speedrun trophy once again...
