Popular Post Wavergray
Hello and welcome to PSNP Interviews. Today's interviewee is @Beyondthegrave07 Stock Questions How did you come up with your PSN name? I had a PS3 for years prior to having a PSN account. My brother and I actually had two users set up. One was known as the "shared" user that we both played, and the other was primarily used by my brother when games such as Assassin's Creed only allowed one save at a time (that way we could both have our own saves). Anyways, The name Beyondthegrave07 was actually my brother's idea as we intentionally were going to share the account. I wanted to go with VashTheStampede (since I was watching Trigun at the moment), but we decided to name it Beyondthegrave07 because "Beyondthegrave" is the nickname given to the main character from "Gungrave" after he comes back from the dead. Beyondthegrave was taken, so we just added "07" at the end of it. It really has no significance whatsoever. What games convinced you get your PlayStation 3, Playstation Vita, and PlayStation 4? The better way to phrase this would be "What PS2 games convinced you to get a PS3/PS4?" Because, honestly, my loyalty goes back to the PS2 days when I was a big, big Ratchet and Clank fan and Naughty Dog fan. Once I played Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank, I was hooked. What are your top 5 game series and why? Hehe. If you actually look at my "About me" section, I've had these listed for years! But, I'll give you a little bit of a "why" as well I suppose. However, I have to at least FULLY played 3 games from the series or it doesn't count IMO. I love Smash Bros as much as the next guy, but I've played little of Melee and haven't touched a Wii U before. Anyways, here we go. Mario Kart - My love for MK goes back to when I was a kid playing the N64. Playing with my cousins and friends was always a blast, and anytime I think about Mario Kart it brings me back to my good old days as a kid or even as a teenager royally screwing over my friend and getting first all the time! Or getting owned by a train. You can't win them all... Kingdom Hearts - I've played almost every single entry from the gameboy advanced versions to the forgettable ReCoded game on DS at a friend's house. But, for the most part, I've thoroughly enjoyed hacking, slashing, and overleveling myself to victory. The series combines one of my favorite series (FF) with my childhood (Disney). How can you not put that in your top 5? Speaking of FF.... Final Fantasy - Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy IX, and Final Fantasy VII would probably all make my top 20 video games of all time. I've also played FFI, FFIV, FFVII, FFVII-Dirge of Cerberus, FFVIII, FFIX, FFX, FFX-2, FFXII, FFXIII, FFXIII-2, FFXIII-3, FFXV, FF Tactics, and FF Tactics Advance. Must I really say much more? Uncharted - Yeah, I know exactly what you are all thinking right now. "Wow, how fucking original!" But stick with me here. I love my 3rd person shooters, and I still think the Uncharted games are the best 3rd person shooters available today. Well, shit... that's all I got. Legend of Zelda - I am really, REALLY throwing out some surprises here (said no one ever). I've played Legend of Zelda since the Ocarina of Time on the N64, and just thinking back to how clueless and stupid I was getting through all those temples and some of the dumb stuff I did still makes me laugh to this day. For example, for some reason, I always named Link "DAD." Going back to an old save years later just made me crack up when Navi call me "DAD." I'm pretty sure I still have that exact same DAD file sitting at my parents' house in my old room... I was 5 or 6, okay. I probably could barely spell my own name! What are your top 5 games and why? I'm sure I'm going to get some groans from some of these, but others may make you go, "Ah, I've never played that!" Maybe it'll be a little more interesting than my favorite series... so here we go! The Last of Us - I really don't get it. People either highly praise the game like I do or shit all over it. It's never in the middle. But, before I start gushing like a girl on prom night, I'll at least put choice into context. I never once watched a zombie apocalypse show, movie, or really played any zombie apocalypse games until this one. So when people say the story is "unoriginal," I have no idea what you're talking about. Name 5 games or shows where you escort the cure to mankind to a group of philanthropists who are then brutally murdered by the main character to protect the girl from sacrificing her life. The story focuses on love and has some of the best voice acting and plot twists I've ever seen in a game. I would never call a game perfect, but I can't remember a game that has had me so invested as this one. Save your hate comments for another thread. I don't really want to here it... This is my GOAT. Fire Emblem Awakening - This one is a little left field for most people, huh? This game is a tactical strategy game where you essentially pair up units (to fall in love) and have kids who will later fight for your cause and will inherit the same abilities, strengths and weaknesses as the parents. This game is pure strategy and not necessarily where to move your units, but how to divide your experience, who to pair up, what classes to use, which characters to use in what battle, who gets what weapons, etc. The strategy in this game is about thinking 5 chapters ahead instead of your next move. I've beaten the game on Lunatic twice and seven times total and loved every minute of it. Tomba 2 - This a a PS1 game where the entire premise of the game is to find evil pigs and to throw them into your magical sack. And I'm going to go ahead and throw this out there; this game is available on the PS3 as a classic. It's a 2D sidescroller adventure game with 3D aspects to it. Lots of fun gadgets and quests to do, and you play as a pink-haired jungle boy. It's amazing! Kingdom Hearts 2 - The thing all Kingdom Hearts game and this one particularly always does well is by the end of the game, you feel like a complete, utter badass. Anyone else know what I mean? I also want to throw out there that dual-wielding keyblades is still one of the best things I've ever experienced in gaming. Dark Cloud - This list just keeps getting better, right? I love dungeon crawlers, survival games, and RPGs and Level-5 created the perfect mix of RNG that just keeps me coming back for more. I've played through this game so many times, and I love the fact that dying has consequences and that you can break your weapons and need to drink water. The beginning has a little bit of a learning curve, but going through the entire game (with its great OST too) is oh-so satisfying. Do you have any other hobbies outside of gaming? I like to run, swim, and play disc golf and ping pong. The common denominator between all four of those things is I suck at all of them! Being 5'7'' and 140 Ibs has never helped me in anything! I can't calculate that for you metric system people so go do the math yourself. However, lately, all I've really been doing is studying for my CPA exams. It's not necessarily a hobby, but more like a lifestyle at this point. Top 5 TV shows, Movies, and/or anime, why, and would you recommend them to people? I'll give you a couple of each so everyone feels like they got something out of this question: Movies - The Prestige and Django Unchained. If you have never watched The Prestige. Pull up another tab on your phone/computer and buy this on Amazon. This movie is about magic and how two rivals compete to have the best show. It is a mind-bender that will make you go, "No... no way." at the end of the movie. The acting is superb and has a star cast of Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, and Scarlet Johanson. Django is a violent movie about a former slave who goes undercover with his white partner to save his family from slavery. If you aren't sold on it, just YouTube the KKK scene and you'll be rofl. It's a perfect mix of funny and violent for sure! TV Show - I don't watch much TV, so I can't say much for this, but I'd recommend Parks and Recreation which is about a bunch of idiots who run a parks department. And I've worked for a parks department before, and I'll tell you that this show isn't as far fetched as you might think (okay, maybe a little). Anime - Go watch Gungrave and go watch The Devil is a Part-Timer. Gungrave has the romance, violence, and sci-fi and has a compelling, tragic story that will make you want to stop and take breaks because it's so sad. However, The Devil is a Part-Timer is like Gintama, but instead of being a Samurai doing normally work as a freelancer, it's the Devil working at a McRonalds trying to climb the corporate ladder to take over the world. The premise alone should convince you to watch it. Top 5 favorite music bands/group/artist? Foster the People Foo Fighters Red Hot Chili Peppers Twenty One Pilots Alice in Chains Your favorite platinum? OKAMI HD. 1 playthrough, very few missables, and you feel like you get your money's worth without all the BS grinding or stupid trophies. The perfect trophy set! Your least favorite platinum? ICO, hands down. After the two-hour run, I never want to touch the game again. Never. Again. Have you ever been tempted to switch over to the Xbox/Nintendo/PC gaming ecosystems? I already play on Nintendo consoles as well, so it's a little late for that. However, I am loyal to Sony, so I will not be buying a Xbox anytime soon! If you could have one game from any gaming generation be remade or re-released what would it be? Tomba/Tomba 2. I want to see my jungle boy throwing evil pigs in a sack in HD. Klonoa was a close second though! How far are you willing to go for a platinum? For me to go for the platinum, it needs at least one of these two things: 1.) I personally adore the game enough to where I want to play it to completion. OR 2.) I am literally so close to the platinum after beating the game that it's practically slapping me in the face. That's it. I will not grind for meaningless trophies as I like to value my gaming time nowadays. This doesn't mean I haven't went after stupid trophies before, but I'm over that stage of my life now (I'm looking at you, ICO). What feature (besides backwards compatibility) do you think the next console generation should have? Real life Pokemon. Not like the creepy Detective Pikachu pokemon, but adorable Pokemon to follow everyone around and battle with... so I guess.... AR gaming? What is your favorite thing about PSNP? I really like the contests and giveaways and love to see everyone getting involved in the community. I also love participating in some good conversations or great banter in the forum games section. What is your least favorite thing about PSNP? I feel like some people need to pull off the hate breaks a bit. I'm not going to name who, but there are some people who seem to just be on this site to give other people grief. You know who you are. Is there anyone in the PSNP Community you would like to give a shout out too and if so why? Oh hell yeah! S/O to my friends @Sir_Bee and @ddracarys for reaching out to chat and becoming friends on this site. I've been on the site for 6 years and these two were the first people to ever reach out to get to know the real me. Not real name or anything like that, but to learn more about my personal life. It's been fun learning more about them, and most of the time it's just me blabbering on about how much I'm dreading the next CPA exam. Though, to be honest, I think ever CPA candidate needs that person! I'd also like to give a S/O to my friend @OnePieceDude which I don't even know how we became friends, but thanks for chatting it up on PSN with me every once in a while. I've enjoyed talking about Tekken and MGS. I also want to give a big S/O to my homies @Dav9834, @Zolkovo, and @eigen-space. I hope you are all doing well! Lastly, a S/O to @Starrk_01 for being a great friend and brother (like seriously, we are actually biological brothers and our own family confuses us). PSNP Community Questions Have you ever fought with your brother shirtless in the rain? I have probably fought with my brother shirtless, and I’ve probably fought with my brother in the rain, but I don’t think I’ve ever fought my brother shirtless in the rain. If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be? A redwood tree. For one day in my life, I want to know what it feels like to be tall. Do you put on honey on your peanut butter sammiches? Uh, no. And who says “sammiches?!?” What are you 5?!? What's it like beyond the grave? If you’ve ever seen Dragon Ball Z, just imagine King Kai’s planet. I normally play catch with myself or play tag with a monkey. If you could be told the complete and absolute truth to a single question, what would you ask? How many licks does it actually take to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop (and it’s not 3 dammit!!!)? Do you like bacon? Yes. Are you a cat or dog person? Dogs 100%. At least they will actually play with you. I feel like the only time cats are fun are when you get them to do something completely stupid. Anything coming out next year that has you excited? Kingdom Hearts 3!!! Did you ever travel to another country? If yes, to where did you go? No, but I would like to go to Germany, Canada (Toronto specifically), and Japan. How many times can you burp consecutively before you have to stop? If you can demonstrate this, it would be great. I can’t burp consecutively, but I can fart consecutively 7 times, would you like to see me demonstrate that? Does this trailer make you tear up or is it just me? I’m not going to lie, that made my eyes water. I don’t suffer from mental illness, but I had a neighbor who had Schizophrenia and killed himself because he couldn’t take hearing the voices anymore. He said in his letter that the voices told him to hurt others and he didn’t want to hurt anyone anymore. I feel like I need to play this game. Maybe I’ll be able to understand what he was going through. If you haven’t watched the video, click on it. It’s not stupid, and it’s not spam. WHEN WILL YOUR DAMN NI NO KUNI GUIDE BE READY?! After I finish my CPA exam. I at least finished the main guide… That counts for something, right? Cersei, Viserion, The Hound. Marry, Slay, have a drink with. Take your picks. Also yeah, I realise this isn't really a question shhh. I’m going to marry and slay Cersei. Then go have a drink with The Hound and Viserion to celebrate… Bet you didn’t see that coming! You're in a bus one day and suddenly the bus driver takes a harsh stop, it sends all of your stuff flying to the front of the bus including Thano's Gauntlet. The reason why the bus driver stopped, though, is because a killer elephant is coming right at you guys. You just have enough time to escape the bus towards the back, but you may be able to make it out the front and grab your stuff along the way, if you move fast enough. Do you risk your life to grab your stuff and escape the bus from the front entrance, or sacrifice all your stuff like a total pleb and escape the bus from the back entrance? Nobody will judge you no matter what you choose, I promise. I don't take many risks, so I'll go with the back entrance o the bus. Total pleb move, but there are old sellswords, and there are bold sellswords, but there are no such thing as bold and old sellswords. If you could be one animal for a day, which would it be and why? Asking for a friend. A 3-eyed crow. I want to be able to fly! [insert question about your profile that makes you a bit insecure because your profile is a mess but you're trying as hard as you can and nobody seems to realize this]. The question here is are you mad that you can't go back and finish games on your profile such as Resistance 2 and Littlebig Planet. The answer is hell no because I had zero intention of finishing those games in the first place. Okay but seriously, I see you've completed Reverie. Did you know this game is set in New Zealand? THAT'S RIGHT. I LIVE IN NEW ZEALAND. ISN'T THAT COOL? But no, I haven't played the game yet. I know, I'm a disappointing Kiwi. I'll get to it soon probably maybe. How did you like it though? I've heard it's similar to the earlier Zelda games (like The Minish Cap), is this true? Think of this game like a classic, top-down Zelda game that is roughly 5 hours long. I think Minish Cap is a better game (obviously, it’s actually one of my favorite, if not my favorite GBA game), but it’s definitely worth the $10. Would you spend $100.00 on a jacket? I've been contemplating it and need a second opinion. Yes, winter is coming. (I bet @ddracarys is loving these references right now) Spell a five letter word using only letters from your gamertag. Again, not really a question, but rules are made to be broken. You're allowed to use letters more than once. Break a leg! But not really, because that would be tragic. Unless you want to and get an extension for your exam, that's fine. Just don't ask me, because I am definitely not going to break your leg for you. Gravy. You’ve gone a non-traditional route with your trophy cabinet and filled it with trophies referencing life and death. Here is your chance to expound upon it and let us in on any deeper meaning behind the choices. What say you? Challenged accepted! The character my PSN ID is named after is based off the fact that the character dies and comes back to life. I like the idea of having my cabnet revolve around life or death because anyone who has watched Gungrave will look at my cabinet and understand (maybe) why I named my character that… Either that or everyone thinks I have some sort of Necrophilia. My favourite tekken 7 character is King.Who is yours? My favorite character (to use) is Lucky Chloe. I can dish out some pretty good air-juggling combos and playing as her makes me look less amateurish. I also like playing as Jin, Devil Jin, Kazuya, Bob, and Asuka, but I’m not going to lie, I’m a one-two trick pony with those characters and anyone (good) could dissect me like a dead frog if I played against them. Is there a game you were excited to play that didn't quite meet up to your expectations? I’m sure I’ll get some hate for this, but I’m going to go with Final Fantasy XV. I think the story was lame and the gameplay was boring. I was on level 60 by chapter 3 and everything pretty much died in a few hits and nothing was really a challenge. The thing I like about Final Fantasy is that the game revolves around “strategy” and this game did not have any of it. The only strategy was item management, which obviously I did well at that since I was on level 60 before chapter 3. One game that surprised you and you kept going back to? This one will be out there, but I was surprised by Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. I plan to come back to this game someday and to try the game out on hard mode and to continue from my saved file. I love games that don’t waste your time, and I love the fact that you can indeed “fail” at this game as it raises the stakes and makes playing it more fun for me. I still don’t understand why people hate it. Yeah, the story isn’t great, and they should’ve just stopped after XIII, but the gameplay is very good and actually has some strategy elements to it. Any 2019 games that you would be tempted to pre-order? Kingdom Hearts 3 and Fire Emblem 3 Houses. Of course, I will most likely preorder the first game in the next month, but I need a Nintendo Switch to preorder Fire Emblem: 3 Houses. I’m considering getting a switch and smash bros after I pass my CPA exam as a gift to myself for pretty much throwing away a year of my life studying. Ever had something stolen from you? (Can be in game or real life)? I had the first 2 discs of Final Fantasy IX on PS1 stolen from me (by a former neighbor). WHY JUST TAKE THE FIRST 2 DISCS?!? DON’T YOU NEED ALL 4 TO BEAT THE GAME!?!? How would your perfect game look like? I don’t think the perfect game is possible, but I would want a game that never gets boring, that is always growing in content, and that can be played with friends. The thing that makes it impossible is a game that never gets boring. I think playing enough of one game will burn you out no matter what. Favorite VR game? This is a toughie. I would either go Superhot VR or Rigs: MCL. Both games are great and are satisfying in their own ways. If you haven’t played either. They are a joy. Pick them up. Why did you join this community? Interesting question. I joined in 2012 when I got my first platinum to see if there was a place that kept track of these sorts of things. PSNP was the first thing that popped up. It seemed like a legit, safe site, so I joined. The site (and the people) have changed quite a bit since then. What should the epitaph on my grave say? (Don't worry, be creative, funny, anything is valid x3) “I made some good deals and I made some bad deals, but this one really put me in a hole.” Why do laugh first? Are you laughing at someone or something? Or is it just some random maniacal laughter for no reason? I want to know lol I actually had a “Joker” (Persona 5) avatar for a while, and I thought the title was a good play on words. Now that I have a Skull Kid avatar at the moment. It still kind of works. The laughter is that of a maniacal child softly laughing during a full moon. I saw you had a number of random gaming quotes under your profile, pretty cool stuff. I love me some gaming quote as well. Which quote is your all-time favorite and why? SPOILER ALERT: It’s in my “about me section.” It is… "I ask that you hear the truth of my words! War will win you nothing but sadness and pain, both inside your borders and out. Free yourselves from this hatred! From this cycle of pain and vengeance. Do what you must... As I will do. See now that one selfless act has the power to change the world!" - Emmeryn - Fire Emblem: Awakening Your thinking, why though, am I right? The reason is for the timing of this quote in the game. In this part of the game, Chrom is trying to save his sister, Emmeryn from her death that has already been predicted to happen. He is doing everything in his power to stop the tragedy from happening, but it is no use. At this point, Emmeryn is at sword-point and is one step from falling to her death. The mad king Grangel gives Chrom the option to either surrender or watch his sister die. Right before this happens, she says these final words mentioned above and jumps off the cliff herself. She sacrifices herself so her brother does not have to bear the burden of choosing the fate of the kingdom (by surrendering) or by choosing to save his sister and damning the kingdom. It’s really a sad, heart-felt moment in the game, and the next chapter that happens after this is just superb. You play as Chrom and you pretty much get to kill enemies as they retreat because they realize the sacrifice of his sister and no longer wants to fight. Therefore, you actually get to choose whether you let them escape or kill them for vengeance. Some heavy shit there. Thank You @Beyondthegrave07 for being a interviewee in the PSNP Interviews series.
